The same Herbertball that got us to the prelim final, then NZ to the WC,then through the WC undefeated?

Id actually like more of that!

yus, I'm actually pretty down on the fact we are sucking right now, I have no idea why but Its more than hating on the team now, Its annoying me. Get all your friends to this game and if they hate the Phoenix get them there who cares, we're screwed otherwise.

I think it wil take a more than a better pitch to help the midfield!

Crowd will go either way, good numbers to support the boys, or lowest crowd yet to see the nix.

I thought that apart from the slip on the turf, when they got their goal, that Hearfield had an ok game and was reasonable on attack.
Might get flamed for that but that is the way I saw it.

Wasn't happy to put him in the team believe me. But HE IS THE ONLY RIGHT BACK WE HAVE. Why should North or Siggy play out of position and not reach their potential? Manny could do that job, but then who would play at LB? Or I'd be happy if Lia plays at RB, otherwise it HAS to be Hearfield.

I think he didn't do too bad yesterday. his crosses could have been better, but can't blame the man for slipping when they scored. On that pitch it could have happened to anyone else, and it did - heaps. Just look at Rooney, and to some extent Topor-S (Ifill slipped and took out his knee).

                   Vukovich
North Sigmund Durante Muscat
                    Elliot
Ifill              Ward              Daniel
      Greenacre Pavlovich

But will not suprise me if its:

                   Paston
North Sigmund Durante Muscat
        Brown Elliot Lia
                      -
                      -
Bertos                               Ifill
                      -
               Greenacre

SURELY RH has seen enough to know a change is needed. Surely? How could he not realise this????

Dear Santa

I'd really like part of my Christmas present early this year. I've been really good throughout 2010 and my beloved football team, the Phoenix, need some help. So I'd love it if you could, as my present, sprinkle some passion, power and pride over them so they can start winning games, at home and away. They have a game on Wednesday, so put it at the top of your list

Thanks Santa

Forever yours O6.

Hearfield was very good for us last season but was sh*t at the start of this season. He then came back, played reasonably well, only to get dropped again. Like so many of our squad e.g. (North, Pav, Ward) they have not been given enough consecutive games to regain form and confidence.

He was OK last night and got forward and caused the Jets concern a few times. What I like about him, aside from his pace, is he at least has attacking intent.

The slip last night was costly but, if you see the goal again, there was another defender who could have got to the attacker if he wasn't dawdling back at half pace.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

With North and Brown back, there's one definite candidate for me to drop out of the match-day 15 and that's Pavlovich.  All these people who are saying he should be starting are clearly watching a different game from me.  He didn't do a single productive thing in the 30 minutes or so he was on last night, but there are people on here who see him as the saviour of our season. I try not to be negative about players but I honestly can't see what he adds.

Time to get behind the team, they need 7k+ fans making a heap of noise lifting the players and helping them get some confidence back, enough of the angst already.

I think we'll line up like this:

                               Paston
North        Sigmund     Durante      Muscat
                             Elliott
            Brown       Ward      Bertos
                    Greenacre   Ifill

Bench: Hearfield/Lia, Pavlovich, Daniel, Vuko

I think Hearfield is starting to look good, and if you want to drop him for slipping over once then that's way too harsh, but you can't leave out North and there's no way Ricki will drop Sigmund who's been one of our best in terms of effort.

If we want to talk about scoring goals, then Brown has to start over Lia, who looked a bit lost in a more attacking role, some good touches but he played some really aimless balls in the midfield and didn't help Ward of Elliott enough. Elliott will start guaranteed, you don't sign him for 10 games and then don't play him. Ward was rusty last night but needs another game to come right and play as more of a unit with Elliott and Leo/Ifill.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Greenie/Ifill striking partnership but Ricki just really doesn't want to play anyone else with Greenie so it'll have to do, and as soon as Ifill starts hitting form again it'll work.

Basically one change, Brown in for Lia. Can't pick who i'd have on the bench between Hearfield and Lia.

It's going to have to be a huge and mistake free performance to get 3 points off the Heart, but I think it's doable. I really can't work out why this team isn't performing to be honest.

imo an energy and passion that has been sorely lacking from the team, he really puts himself about with an aggression that troubles the defense in a way that greenacre can't.

He also plays a decent target man, and is strong and can take the ball down on his chest, which he did several times last night. I for one would like to see Elliott 'rested' (because there's no way we're going to straight up drop him) for the mid week game and have us play 442 with greenacre and pav playing together, I feel their mobility could help them play really well together.

And at this point, he's the 'saviour of the season' because he seems like he has some talent but we haven't seen much of it, which hints at a potential that out-strips what we have seen so far from our players, haha!

Correct. Has a bit of power, willing to run at defenders and make things happen. Adds something different. He's still young, but the only way for him to progress is to play him. Alas we all know Ricki doesn't like giving the youngsters much of a go.

He's better than Macallister. That's about it. We have no other options. He does put himself about very well but, like Greenacre, gets no service whatsoever. The only solution I can see is to play them both together.

I think that he has maybe the worst touch in the entire squad but could make space for Greenie.valeo2010-11-21 17:27:25

Definitely that small period of play in the beginning of the second half before we conceded he and Leo worked well to get him down that wing, and we had a few good balls into the box. It's unfortunate that he did slip for the goal because aside from that he fairly redeemed himself from his early season games.

Although if North's fit I can't imagine Ricki not playing him, and either Dura+Siggie aren't going to be dropped.

When has he made anything happen?

He has potential, and has shown glimpses. Didn't make anything happen in that last game though.

I guess the talk about him getting a start is because he is the only one who has shown a glimpse of anything. Also for the second striker spot it is between him and Mac.

I don't particularly think he should get a start either LF1,just perhaps offering some rationale for people who have that opinion.

Remember him skinning a few players earlier in the season.

But yeah, sure hes not amazing, but we HAVE TO play 2 strikers. Ifill is not a striker. And Big Mac hasnt really impressed.

But playing Mac wouldn't bother me too much. Bet we would play better o matter who was playing. I just remember Pav v adelaide in his satrt and he was good. Just needed to finish. Which no one else could do anyway
