Dear I say it, I think Ricki is loosing the plot.
Yes ultimately it is up to you, and with any luck you will be held accountable. When you signed up to two coaching jobs you said you wouldn't let one influence the other (prob not in those words), so what is with the blind loyalty to the NZ players. Yes they did well at the world cup, but they aren't at the world cup anymore. Time to become the Phoenix coach again.

And tell Tim Brown to stop running around with his head up his ass trying to score goals and just have a kick around with his mates (our team).

The images in there were quite interesting to me, especially when you see the back three vs a wide front three. Just reminded me of the all whites, solid, but little attacking ability

I've always found ti interesting how the three man defence immediately falls into 'wingback' mode.

I remmebr watching a clip on a well known coach (can't recall name and trying to find clip) saying that the dutch (from memory) used to employ a great implementation of the 3-4-3 where instad of using wingbacks, the wider centre backs also had played as right or left fullbacks in the past, so would push wide when the attack came down that flank.

To cover those players pushing wide, the defensive mid would step into the middle of the defence to cover, usually good when that player has played in defence as well.

Wish i could find it again...

that'd be quite interesting... hmmm.

And it sounds a lot like something we can do with manny as a DM.
Last season, when one of lochhead or hearfield bombed forward, manny would drop back in between the two CBs often.

ahhh i miss Lochhead...

Anyone with 1 post to their name who plays for North Wellington is not to be listened to.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Having only signed up to this thingy yesterday i don't think 1 post should be held against me (Despite having season ticket from the beginning). Last time I checked I wasn't playing for North Welly (otherwise would have been a valid reason to ignore me).

Yup, as much as im sure people were bagging him for being a donkey at times, i know i for one would happily have him back in tomorrow night, even on a set of crutches.

This year I don't think our DMs have done that with as much authority as Manny did last season.

I think we've often seen the situation when one fullback goes wide and is  beaten, the CBs are too far away to provide adequate support and the mids have not  stepped in/tracked well and we are in trouble.

BUT what I think we saw vs Newcastle in the weekend was Dura moving wider to support the FB that had been pulled wide.  He cut out a lot of potentially dangerous play by doing that.

If Dura and the other CB are moving wider in support of the FB and that is a deliberate adjustment then I think that'd be a good thing. That shoudl give the DM/mids a bit more time to step in and help.

Christ, I'd settle for anything that works at the moment tho'

Go Nix

The reality is the Phoenix operate in a competitive entertainment market, yes the Phoenix is entertainment and the whole fan thing/soap opera angst is part of that, and apart from a few thousand die hards they have to produce a product that people will be willing to part with their money to watch. Then hopefully they develop an attachment to the club that goes beyond casual supporter to a die hard, but you need to win them over first.

Agree. It's not like an English club. Money is still really tight for many, and Phoenix games are just part of entertainment options. However RH, along with Terry S, Tony P and the other execs hasve created a real strong brand. The hard work's been done, which is why fans are fraustrated. RH will have every "expert" under the sun getting in his ear with advice. Just hope he has one mentor he does respect and listens to, because right now without a break for nearly 2 years, he can't see thru the mist of it all.

Avram Grant? (He did offer Ricky a job after the WC, so Grant must rate him as a coach.)

From Dompost - quote from Ricki

Asked whether his tactics needed reviewing, he said: "We're not a long-ball team. It may have looked that way but we certainly haven't been that for the last three years."

Has he told the players this!

Not too bad at 5. Might be a bit worse when you get into town, but nothing on Auckland.

Yeah, and you're going against the traffic.  Only ugly bits will be getting around the Basin and depending where you are going if you get caught up in traffic going north.

I predict that this will be the rebirth of the Nix's home form at the Fortress of Fire.

This time without the stain caused by the Ring of Dirt.

C'mon!

Have no other choice when our midfield 3 are so ineffective. Elliott has to step up and show the form he did for the All Whites.

Too bad Lochy isn't bad for another 3 weeks..Manny in midfield instead of Lia would help, I think.

Realistically, if Nelsen, Reid and Smith were playing for the Nix I'm sure Elliot would be receiving a lot more ball out of the back line instead of having to watch it fly over his head. But I think you're right, he and the other mids need to be providing more options.
