Siggy's 5th card - out for Saturday.

So proud of the boys in that 2nd half. The 1st was absolutely dire - Terra should've had a hat-trick and Ifill's performance was one of the worst I have seen from him. In saying that, to come back in the 2nd half the way he did was just amazing and showed the character of the man.

He made tackles, tracked back, put loads of pressure on Thompson etc and capped it off with a beautiful finish for his 2nd. All while hobbling, clutching his knee and seemingly contending with a ref who hated him. Iffy is back.

Think that Siggy was probably 2nd best - he proved the catalyst for our first goal. We're really going to miss him on Saturday.valeo2010-11-24 21:05:41

Well I got the score correct and thats 3 points. Don't think we were the better side, but it does not matter.
Two things, I have been saying for months that Ifill is a striker up the middle and that Paston is a very good keeper. Both points were proven tonight.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Agree very much with the Rojas thing. Can't compare it to Melbourne though. I said to my mate before the game he'd probably only get 30 seconds at the end. And he did. Won a corner though.

I think you are missing the point here mate, 2-0 playing aginst 10 men is probably a good time to put on a young guy like Rojas to give him a run and experiance you Idiot.

How come all these other clubs have young guys playing week in week out and we don't??? why do they not get the chance?

Possibly because they have youth teams that have played week in week out since the start of the season?

Or because they're just not good enough? Just because they're young doesn't mean they are the next Tommy Oar.

If they are not good enough why are they there.

I think they need to be given more of a chance. So now they should be give a go with playing these ASB Chellenge games ever week.

Absolute highlight for me was the celebration from the players after the goals. You could see just how much it meant for them, particularly Ifill. I gotta feeling that the next couple of weeks could be pretty big for our Phoenicians!

very happy with the game. One thing only I would say: couldn't Rojas come on after 75'? we were 2-0 up with an extra man. I can understand resting Greenie, but if we don't give our youngsters time to mature, they're all gonna end up leaving like Kosta.
I am not having a go: coach is there to make sure we win games, and that he did so full marks. All I want to say is that Rojas is hardly going to have an easier, more secure situation to slot in that he did tonight.

Ifill can make such a difference to our team. What couple of goals! Lia, Brown were excellent.
Siggy and Muscat were awesome.
Hearfield did very well defensively but not too well going forward. I think he needs to back himself a bit more and have more confidence. He has a heck of a boot on him, why doesn't he get in better positions and have a crack at goal??
I reckon if he did he could easily get 3-4 goals a season as well as giving our strikers a few goals when the keeper spills it.

SIT DOWN AND f**k UP.

Honestly, very comical, but little brats sure were a handful. Third highlight of the game was one of them getting man-handled out of the ground. Literally a 13 year-old, little sh*t.

Welcome back Wellington Phoenix !!

Random thoughts;

Thank you Mark Paston - yet again you saved our arse.
Well done R Herbert - playing Ifill up front and Troy at left back to free up Manny to play DM - insightful or two rolls of the dice that paid off - doesn't matter. You had a tough week - took some risks and they paid off - you deserve the credit for that.
We won with Manny back at DM - not a coincidence me thinks.
Ward looked very good when he came on - fresh and quick legs made a big difference in the home straight.

Thank you to all players for finding the pride and passion that has been lacking for much of the season - now onwards and upwards.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Jeez, what a relief.

North and Hearfield both had mistake free games.  Clean sheet, tho not without some scary moments.  This time I think all those scary moments came straight up the middle.

And for sure you could see how much it meant to the guys to go ahead and how much the confidence grew.

Heart were slower, missing a few players, but you got to be happy.

Well done Ricki for mixing it up a bit.

Pick off Victory on Saturday and things will look a lot better.

He looked pretty fired up yeah. Had quite a few spats at the linesman and ref and pissed off Zahra when he made an excellent challenge on him.

Great to be back, loved the No surrender No surrender to the IRD chant.

Nice to grind out a win but they need to follow it up know.It wasnt pretty at times and to much ball was given away far to easily.Give it back to victory that easy and they will penalise us.

14 year-olds getting very agro and passionate towards the Heart (for no reason)- attention seekers. Jumping up and down on their seats, ripping the Phoenix to shreds- pretty much trying to pick a fight with a thousand odd YF. Kept getting chanted at- they got their attention, and then they promptly got kicked out.

Much better tonight, although because I had $5 on 3-0 Phoenix, I must insist that Ricki is still fired with immediate effect!!

Couldn't believe we were still 0-0 at half time, some good chances squandered.

The little prick down the front was good value. Classic stuff to see a hail of bottles when Phoenix scored!
