If you dont come out to close the angle, then no you wont cover it.

If you think Paston should have charged out in that situation, then I'm very glad you're not our goalkeeping coach.

edit: ah, I understand now, you are talking about angles, not the '+1'.  I disagree that rushing out would help at that point, and I don't think you would see any top level keeper in the world coming out in that situation.

I'll take the point.

Vast improvement on previous visits to Perth

Good result.  Happy with a point today.  Thought we were going to nick all 3 towards the end.

Permalink Permalink

That's a good point.  Had some periods we were clearly better than them and some not so strong periods.

Considering it's 01:30 in the morning for our guys and how awful we can be in Perth that's a good point.

4pts from 2 away games...that's possibly half  of what we normally get in a season. Nice!

4 points on the road this week.  Happy with that

Thinking angles and geometry.... unfortunately one can't teach common sense or experience, nor how tp predict the ball being shot between the defenders legs, blindsiding your ability to see.

Siggy's fault, terrible positioning but quality finish. Paston had a good game.

Time for Fenton to go back to the bench.

4 points from a long two game trip with a midweek China game for half the squad prior is a pretty reasonable return.

While a draw in Perth isn't bad, and we did come back from a goal down, that was rather disappointing. Three points were definitely up for grabs there. Ifill was looking good. Good goal from Brockie after squandering a couple in the first half. We turned into sludge the first 25 minutes or so of the second half - got really depressing for a while. Boyd went well off the bench.

Yep, that's a great result. Took a lot of spirit and hard work to get back into that game.

Happy with that. If any Glory player was going to get one at least it was Smeltzy I guess.

Burns is a cunt, just saying, can't understand why refs don't book the guy for nagging. I'd get sick of it pretty quick.

We should also be thanking Ward for being rather crap in front of goal.

Yeah the thing is though, and i mentioned this earlier, for every foot you come out you would double that in a deduction of area for a striker to shoot. He never needed to charge out, a couple of steps and he wouldve been able to reach it. Its just frustrating because its basic and should be instinctive in a keeper like Paston, and hes become increasingly flat footed lately.

And to be clear never said the goal was his fault, just that he did nothing to minimise the chance of a goal being scored.

Boyd went okay, tried miracle ball a little too much instead of simple passes.

Looks like his still growing into his frame a little (looks a little gangly when he runs like a smaller younger Crouch).

Bertos is becoming a decent RB.

Happy with 4 points and an inform Brockie

Much like us in the first half though.  Shots must have been even after 45.

The Fenton miss was a pretty bad one but I thought he had a decent game otherwise. Needs to learn to protect that ball better but he is going to be a very, very good player in a few years.

There was no reaction from him though anyway, he needed to close the angle to be able to react

He was central with Fenton left and Ifill right.  For a period there he and Fenton appeared to swap for me but it might just have been how the play panned out.  Fenton replaced left with Boyd and Huysegems replaced Ifill with Brockie moving right.

This.  His miss wasn't as bad as some of Brockie's but thought he had a good game.  He's well worth investing the time in.

Why have a keeper at all.  May as well just play as another defender and make tackles.

Permalink Permalink

Can I just point out that bagging out Paston after he made 4 or 5 key saves or plays for us smacks of pettiness.  Smeltz is a great finisher, Siggy made his one mistake of the game coming out of the line and left Smeltz too much room, with that much room it could be Casillas, Buffon or 2ndBest and a player of Smeltz' class will still score that goal.

No it doesnt. Sitting too flat left him too far from the ball, thus no attempt to make a save. Closing the angle, although reducing reaction time, would have got him within reach if he made an attempt.
