Aren't these wins being made by teams that have been forced on RH? not his 1st choices but in because of injury?  Food for thought......

yeh but injuries seem to be occuring rather fortunately this year. Gao for example. Dura's is genuine I think, cos there's no way ricki would be able to drop him. unless...

I wonder if it's tactical - when we beat Sydney last time we did the same thing. Got in their faces, closed them down in midfield, didn't let them settle on the ball. Against the Roar and Perth this didn't happen as much. Commentators may have it right - we didn't fear Sydney's pace up front, so defence and midfield pushed up. Qld and Perth have some quicker players, so maybe we've been hanging off more and less aggressive to avoid getting caught out at the back.

So, I guess the question is.. How many other slow teams in the league?

Arsenal, the statements you are making are not banned on this forum, but posting them in the wrong place is.

There is a thread on the subject, please use that.

This thread is about this evenings game.

I think we're winning because there are guys in there playing with guts and determination. Whats the secret to having that happen every week? There's something not quite right inside this team..... Enjoy the wins

Interesting comments from Ricki, he said they are seriously in the market for players to replace Shane, and Terry is determined to get it right and to have a strong side. Porter isnt out of the question but only a (very) long shot.

GREAT GAME GUYS. LET'S HOPE FOR ANOTHER GREAT RESULT IN TOMORROW'S GAME.

Well awesome that we won it, would have felt hard done by if we'd got a draw after that goal from Sydney out of nowhere.

Ferrante's getting some great shots away now, its him and Leo doing a lot of the shooting but its working for us.  I loved the aggressive approach and the 4-3-3 formation, plus with lots of pressure on the Sydney players they just didn't know what to do.  I think Ricki left subs a bit late (again) because sure we were playing well but it was obvious the team was tiring and mid-late second half we lost a lot of the ball contention and urgency of tackles.  Still a great game and good to see a handball penalty called, personally I would have enjoyed it more if it'd gone in off his hand but great reflexes by their keeper.

Oh and Brosque dived all the time, thought finally it would improve when Aloisi came on but he had a couple of blatant dives as well.  Same old f**ing aussies.  Still, it was us that got the penalty at the death and a deserved win.

Now the players need to pull that kind of committment and attacking play out again at the upcoming home game - if we can maintain that brand of football through the rest of the season we'll never look back at the wooden spoon.

I don't know what happened to rark up the boys but a great performance was the result.

the best thing is we can stay in 6th place if jets and glory draw when they play each other. so lets all cheer for both teams to draw. lol.

back four next week?? Be hard to drop anyone from today but you'd think the captain needs to return. I'm thinking maybe Dodd will have to make way unless we return to what we had before, but Having fullbacks on both sides who really know how to push forward is brilliant and Muscat is soaring over Siggy in that department.

A lot more urgency and commitment tonight that's for sure.  Now they've got to back it up in the next two home games.

Kosmina was asked...
you have got only 5 points out of a possible 18, is there a crisis??

Well we thought we had one with more points gained than that, so...

Sydney is in crisis!!!!

My workmates laughed at me for buying a Phoenix bath towel today, but they won't be laughing on Monday!  (Got it for $25, $15 off the RRP.)  I am the lucky omen for this club.

Guffaw!
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Anyone know exactly what happened between Kossie/Filan and Ricki? Apparently words were exchanged. Obviously because Kossie is the worst loser on the planet. Had a go at Simon Hill and also at the post match press conference.

Traitor, the gallery link on the bar at the top should allow you to post photos

Valeo, check out the story on fox sports.  Don't have the link but sounds like Kossie and Ricki had some history, Ricki didn't react well to Kosmina claiming we got a lucky break from the ref.  Phoenix have lodged a complaint apparently.

Bloody hell thats a better feeling to wake up to.Just what is it with Wellington sports teams. One week we cant beat anyone and play complete rubbish the next its like last nite.
Great effort by most of the guys but questions need to be asked why these performances only seem to come after crisis.
Thought we were lucky Sydney didnt want to do anything with all the ball we gave back to them. There are a couple of teams who would have punished us,
Was great to see the players closing them down all over the park lets just hope it wasnt a one off effort.

Well, I don't know if it's easier on the ticker to follow a team that is piss poor most of the time followed by a game like that, or a team that has some sort of consistency. Maybe it's the turnaround? I hoped that it was last time we rolled over the Bling. If they can do it all again next week then all is forgiven. But will Ricki be kind to Paston?
Sydney would have to be the worst losers - watch the replays twats.

excellent game, I actually woke up happy and satisfied... which doesnt ussually happen after a phoenix game. full credit to all the boys on the park, played with passion and heart. although there was the wee man that looks like a mouse that shouldve performed better; paston.

back four for next week? im thinking same as we have had it in previous games. durante and mckain ave been solid in the centre and lochy and siggy have done a good job down the flanks. muscat did play exceptionlly well but I do think that he would be good off the bench?

upfront was great.. moving forward at all times. didnt see to much of costa when he came on? although in saying that didnt see a hell of a lot of smeltz either. maye chuck draper in the squad a, we gotta test this young striker for next year.

moss has to defintly come back.
gao.. im not fussed. work ethic was good in the middle without him.
lochy ..excellent
bertos.. super.

keep it up boys.

Great win...tactically we totally outplayed them....best part was the closeups of Kosminas mug...if looks could kill!

For the first time ever I agreed with Slater....he said " why is it when you watch the Phoenix that they often play so well, yet they are on the bottom of the table?"

Exactly......this team has all the abilities in the world yet are sooooooooooo frustrating to watch.

Its taken us half the comp to get our back four and midfield defense looking great. Tonight was the first real sign that we are making good progress with our attack. Over 20 balls into the box some good shots on goal and a win...you can't complain about that. Looks like we may have found the right formation ( 4,3,3) and players......please stick with it Ricki. No more Gao(poor work ethic) and Coveny(sorry old fella, time is up)
