Was that $5 mil bet BS? Why risk $5 mil with such a low return resting on it?

It has been announced that it didnt happen, one of those urban NZ legends.

The guy who used to make large bets in NZ once, before he went broke, was nicknamed "steel balls" - I believe he is related to the linesman from the jets game

Match day!!!

I'm starting to get excited, (wish we were at home!!)

rumour on this page http://sportal.com.au/default.aspx/football-news-display/phoenix-stick-to-original-squad-37195

that Ricky might be over at the match, makes complete sense in my view, doesn't disrupt the squad and gives ricky a chance to see them in action (Wayne O'Sullivan might have enjoyed a free rein, but they seem to work well together so hopefully he's cool with the change of plan, if it happens)

C'MON LADS!!!!! More points fro the Mighty Phoenix!!

I think Clebo might have just put paid to your wingback option Feverish,

I hope who ever the Planes play on the left isn't too quick

No worries there, Clebo will just hack him down in the first couple of minutes to slow him (whoever he is) down. How fast can he run if he's limping?

yep, that might do it

CLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEBOOOO!!!!

despite some concerns about his mobility in the fullback position it's great to have the lad back in the side, I hope he brings his A game

I just hope someone follows Griffiths round, getting in his ear to the point where he loses it.  The refs can't be on his side...

Haha actually the linesman has just picked up the nickname of "no balls" from Griffiths lol. Perhaps he should take up cricket umpiring.

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

I'd imagine Steven Old will see most of Griffiths as he tends to drift wide right on attack and Old will be at LB.

Can't see Griffiths getting too close to Clebo - he's probably scared of him, and if he tried to punch him in the balls, he'd break his hand...

If we put Daniel left back and Clebo right back would that be a pretty good combination down the flanks?

why waste daniel in the back line when he is a key playmaker though?

it seems that the plan is to play Clebo at RB and Old at LB

if we did  end up with Daniel at LB, then i suspect Old would get the RB slot,

time will tell

with players coming back to match fitness (Elrich, Lia) and the introduction of quite a few 'fringe' players i wonder if we'll see a bit of shuffling round during the match as various players run out of steam

I doubt it would make much difference whether Daniel played left back or left wing - he covers so much of the pitch anyway.  Also, he's not a pace based - run onto the throughball into the corner type, he's happy with everything infront of him so that he can pick out his passes.  Wouldn't be a disaster if he had to play deeper...  Clebo at right back...  Not so sure, but good luck to the big man.

Jesus if Clebs is at fullback we're going to have some problems... (thinks back to the CCM game with O'Dor....)

What, we haven't had problems enough without Clebo? But, yes, I agree, he was all over the shop in those first two games, so today's game is going to be full of thrills and spills at the back, no doubt.

Think it's gonna be another high scoring one. Hopefully it goes our way..

Yeah, I don't feel too confident about this game, and it's a bit of a crunch one really. We need the old hands, especially Aloisi and Coveny to lead by example today. We can't afford a repeat of last week's lethargy.

Oh well, it's off down to the pub to cheer the boys on regardless of the result. Enjoy!

Personally I think we could do better than last week with Daniel back

We'll definitely suffer without Christie and Loch's width down the flanks

Trouble is, Daniel back, then Felipe out and a patchwork defence...  I have a feeling of dread as well.

I get this horrible feeling that Jardel might choose this match to break his goalscoring duck....
