Who else would you perfer instead?
Krishna, Corrales, Jason Hayne, Wilso, Feverish... pretty much anyone. He plays a role that we have a stack of in the squad already... Hearfield, Bertos, Daniel, Costa all play the wide attacking role and all of them played at least double the minutes Kruse did last season at a club that is all about yoof.
Our hole is for a man to play at the pointy end either alongside Greenacre or as cover for the risks his injury brings. Kruse isn't that player.

Great call on Wilso - the team needs more Ginga anyway.
The other guy's too old now.

Point taken but how many goals did they score between them? - 'Hearfield, Bertos, Daniel, Costa'

It's called consistency:

I just think he stands - or falls down - for everything wrong with the game today and I'd be disappointed if we signed him (not as disappointed as if we signed Tiatto mind - but for different reasons).

Juninho Benched, Zdrillic starts... brave call from Kosmina.
Matthew Breeze reffing a side with Moore, Tiatto (bench) and McKay, plus Zullo and Collapsible Kruse...
Should be interesting.

I have to agree about Kruse we have a plethora of players that can play in that position and we still need a striker. I do think that Tiatto would give lochead a competition for the left back position.......for about 5 mins until he was sent off

Agreed, we may not like him but better an Aussie rot in the Phoenix youth slot then a kiwi with potential ability.

As far as I'm concerned, as soon as someone pulls on the black and yellow, he's one of us. I don't care what country he's from, who he's played for in this past, or what he's done before. All that matters to me is that he's good enough and puts in the effort. I'm not a fan of Kruse coming at all, if it were my choice he wouldn't be signed. But if we sign him, I'll cheer for him just as much as I will for our other players.
Unless he turns out to be this years El**ch/Lei Lei.

You just had to bring those two names up again and leave a bad taste in everyone's mouths!!
I agree with HN, we need another scoring striker, preferably as big if not bigger than Greenacre. Covs was good in that respect, his build gave defenders a real handful to deal with that gave Smeltz some room.

nope sorry not buying this.
Will support the team...but can't support inadequacy. For example how many people have been cheering on David Mulligan?
Players like Greenacre and Diego come to the club with an on park reputation and deserve support. Kruse has to EARN the right to get my support. If he plays as poorly and puts in as little effort as his rep, he will be hard to support.
Also if he keeps Costa and Troy out of the equation, both who put in some decent performances for us last year, it would be a bit annoying....

If a player is not putting in the right effort and is playing up off the pitch then of course nobody should support him.
But if a young player wishes to mend his ways then I think he deserves some support in turning that corner.
It's a big harsh to write off a young player for evermore for mistakes he's made in the past.
In any case Ricki will now have seen what state Kruse is now in and if he's not very fit and have a positive attitude then no doubt he won't be signed.

Did we not previously sign a player with (significantly greater) off-field problems and he did very well for us? Give the kid a chance Ii reckon, if he stuffs up - get rid of him pronto.....

The off-field stuff is a concern, but it's the on-field that first put me off him.

It was about refusing to support someone because many of us don't like him for whatever reason, or don't agree with his initial signing. By no means do I think we should we should support inadequacy, and as such I don't cheer for Mulligan, nor did I for Lei Lei or El**ch. I don't actually disagree with you, I'm just saying that if he gets signed, we should give the kid the same chance that Ricki is. If he blows that chance, I'll be joining you in not cheering for him. And the same goes for any player, be it Greenacre or Diego, or even one of our existing players should they (heaven forbid) fall in standard.robbwatson2009-05-19 17:09:06

if someones got a checkered record, is going to possibly displace club favourites he's not going to get support until he's done the hard yards. We thought El**ch and Lei Lei would be good news when they got here, and they came with reps. YF is decidedly mixed about Kruse.
If we sign him and we don't play Troy or Costa or Daniel or Leo because of it and he's rubbish there have to be some hard questions asked as to how he got there...
damn I wish I had Hard News skill with erudition...

Getting back to the topic, did Tony say anything worth discussing?
The news with respect to the 2nd striker was mixed.
The good news is they have clearly have set their sights high - couldn't quite close the deal with a striker involved in Championship playoffs. They also have a few other options on the go. The bad news is they are struggling to get players interested in coming to Wellington - doesn't seem to be a problem with $s but more the perceived attractiveness of Wellington and possibly the A-League.
The signing of the 2nd striker is so important to our chances next year I think the better salesman out of Tony or Ricki should get on a plane back to the UK and close the deal with one of these prospects. If necessary get them over to Wellington, with their other half, to see what a great city it is.
We need to grab this recruitment by the proverbials and make it happen.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)
