Play-off revenue

I think it's fantastic that Terry will get a decent sized cheque from FIFA for the Nix All Whites playing at the World Cup.

I know he's not in it for the money but it's tough times for many, especially property developers, and even Terry can't go on losing $1m p.a. for ever so the "bonus" revenue from FIFA is no doubt very welcome.

Thinking about bonus revenue made me wonder what the situation is with gate takings from play-off games i.e. does anyone know what the split is between the FFA, home team and away team from play-off ticket revenue ?

E.g. If we make the top 4 we get a home play-off game; 20,000 @ $20 per ticket (adults $30, kids $10) = $400k. I wonder, after costs, how much of that the Nix would receive.

We should get the lot....ferk the FFA!!!

Be interesting how big a crowd we would get if we got the home playoff. Late Feb....the weather is normally good plus there is not much else happing on the sporting front.
We would probably have to move the game to palmerston nth coz the Hurricanes have the ROF booked!!!

Phoenix need there own football stadium. Yeah I know..Wishful thinking. If Terry makes a huge profit one day he should build a brand new football stadium (seating 25k) yeah i know...wishful thinking.

Not that large.  Around 15-20k.  Something that looks full with 10k in it.  Trouble is that if it isn't as easy to get to as the Stadium it won't get 10,000.

Anything larger can go to the stadium but two grounds that size in a city the size of Wellington wouldn't be viable.

I'm not sure if 'wishful thinking' is quite how I'd describe that call. But good on yea!

Ahem, cough, cough.

I know a place just up the road that seats 15-18k. Parking is no hassle.

A little windy and somewhat in the style of Serie B stadia so I'm told.

Assuming we only make it into the bottom 3 of the 6 - what do we need to do to secure a home spot for play-offs?

Ignore the team names - they will have changed with changes in the table.

If you look at the positions you can work it out.

Ha! Melbourne pulled over 50,000 for 2 Grand Finals and lost out (technically) as the Finals are run by the FFA, how do you think they feel about it?

Not sure if the FFA pass on some cash to the host club but definitely the FFA run the finals series.

I think I had trouble with this last time!

OK - so if we get 4th place we get a home playoff in the first week.

If we get 6th and manage to beat the 3rd place team in week 1 (away) , we get a home game in week 2.

The rest of the games would be away (assuming we made them).

So there's only one home game for the play-offs

(solution is to get 1st or 2nd place by winning all our games and employing Suzie to give all the other teams some milk and lasagne)

My understanding is play-off home advantage goes to the team who finished higher on the league table at the end of the regular season - except of course for 1st versus 2nd (rounds 1 and 2 of the play-offs) which is home and away.

So, if you finish 6th you cannot get a home play-off game. If you finish 5th you can only get a home play-off game (in round 2) if 6th beats 3rd and 5th beats 4th in round 1.

Best solution is finish 4th or better which guarantees at least 1 home play-off game.

Thanks for that.

(Told you it wasn't obvious!) I was using your draw with the first named team being the home side which is how I'd assumed that 6th beating 3rd in week 1 would translate into a home game vs winner of 4th and 5th in week 2...

4th spot is the target then (would we dare of hoping for 3rd?)

Newtown doesn't come close to meeting A-League requirements, not does any other ground in Wellington.

I'd settle for an Auckland team in the A-League. But not to displace the Nix.

We'd need someone to beat.
