Moss - 6  - One good save early on, couldnt do much about the goal.

Christie - 6 - Did his job well. Got on the ball a bit.
Lochhead - 8 - Was excellent today, once again got down the left and put some decent balls in.
Dodd - 6 - Defended well and did his job.
O'Dor - 6 - Was ok when called upon. Alot of development left in him.

Aloisi - 5 - Didnt get on the ball as much. Would be better if Johnson wasnt playing the same role.
Felipe - 6 - Had a cracking first half. Excellent touch etc just needs to be more dangerous in and around the box.
Johnson - 5 - Did well. Tackled and worked hard.
Ferrante - 4 - Did well in the first half. Needs to keep a level head in front of goal.

Smeltz - 6- Never stopped trying. Holds the play up well. Would like to see Brownlie up top with him next week.

Coveny - 4 - Didnt do much.
Brownlie - 6 - Did well in his cameo. Should be given a start next week.

Lochhead, Smeltz and Felipe were the only ones who looked at all decent. Daniel had his moments and was effective while he was on however.

I think the defenders and Moss really stood out, Lochead down the left gave us a really good attacking option. Dodd and O'Dor look a handy partnership. Christie had a solid game, I hope they leave him their for a few games. Felipe, I gave him an 8 for the first half and 6 for the second...possibly still not quite fit enough, but looks classy.

I believe that the Wellington football supporters generally do not understand what an excellent role Aloisi plays. He is an expert at laying off short but accurate ball in a controlled (ie not flashy) way. He does this right through every game. Yet the points he is being given dont reflect this. I thought that again today he was excellent in this role and should be given more credit.

i agree its a key position were he is so good positionaly and his quick short passing is class links with filepe which is what we need

I truly thought the defence and midfield all played well apart from maybe Ferrante. The back four were very very solid - barely made a mistake all game. The goal came from an unlucky deflection.

I thought dodd was a rock, and lochead should be getting better marks.

The fact he  is getting up and down the field like a f**king maniac is amazing.

goal was pox, nothing free kick deflected on target into the bottom corner.

if only the loose ball in the box fell to smeltz and not ferrante

Moss - 8 - Fantastic, did nothing wrong. Unlucky for the goal. Fantastic.
Christie - 7 - I've criticised Plodder in the past, but he looks the goods at RB
Lochhead - 7 - Another solid performance, good crosses and overlaping
Dodd - 7 - Very comfortable
O'Dor - 7 - See above
Aloisi - 6 -  Did his job as captain.
Felipe - 7.5 - Was magnificent in first half. Yellow card and lack of fitness seemed to restrict him
Johnson - 6 - Similer to Aloisi, some nice passes
Ferrante - 5 - Was good in first half, needs shooting practice.
Daniel - 5 - Im not sure I like him. Hasnt impressed me really and despite a strong reputation hasnt done much to back that up.
Smeltz - 6.5- Played well, needs to get into better positions inside box.

Coveny - 5 - Hardly an impact player
Brownlie - 6 - Adds  another dimension to attack

I didnt reckon that Smeltz was that great today to be honest.  he has incredible work rate and is very strong, but far too many of his off loads did not reach good or intended targets.  Also he got caught offside a couple of times that could only be put down to sheer lack of basic awareness.

Thought that Lockhead was by a long way MOM.  In fact the entire defence looked very solid.

The big issue IMHO is quality around the attacking 18 yard box and the finishing.  It seemed to me we wanted to almost walk the ball in.

We just need to get that first 3 pointer and then we will be majorily away. Just fear that the longer it takes the more pressure there is going to be without stating the blindingly obvious

Smeltz held the ball up well, which is the primary objective for a lone striker

Need Brownlie up with Smeltz. Brownlie can get on the ball which will free Smeltz up a bit.

Impressed with Christie at right back too. I say leave him there.

I agree ferrante had a couple of good passes besides that he was sh*te....I thought the boys were unlucky not to have at least got a draw as they were the better team for most of the match....the defense was quite good today, Lochead & Dodd did well as did Christie...Moss was superb in goal..unlucky deflection cost them...but you cant blame him, he had a couple of blinding saves

Felipe was great in the first half....just unfortunate he could last it fitness wise

I also like the Lochead & smeltz combination on the left hand side they seemed to work well off each other...I think it was locheads best game so far

Congrats to Ricki for getting the formation spot on.

Until Daniel's injury the Nix had the Jets on toast. Feilpe tucking in behind Smetlz and Ferrante and Daniel swapping wide spots, had the Jets at sixes and sevens.

That formation, coupled with a stronger showing at the back (Dodd & O'Dor are the centre pairing, end of story) with Christie doing a good job defensively at right back, means I think the future is bright.

Also a good formation to play away from home.

If only we had our shooting boots on.

Billy's Boots anyone?

MOSS 9 - did well, didn't have a chance of saving the one that got in.

DODD 7 - played very well
O'DOR 6 - did well aswell (as long as not put in rightback)
LOCHHEAD 8- his play up the wing was brilliant.
CHRISTIE 8 - played very well and proved many people wrong.

DANIEL 5 - had some good touches, went down to easily though.
FELIPE 7 - got class, but I can see why Ricki has as issue with his fitness
ALOISI 6.5- didn't stand out, but he did what he does best - ordering the mids and backs
JOHNSON 6 - played reasonably well.
FERRANTE 7 - not great in front of goal but played well

SMELTZ 6 - showed that he needs to have another striker with him.

SUBS:
COVENY 5 - did OK, I liked his header on goal.
BROWNLIE 7.5 - he needs to start games, he's a good player

Don't think I missed anyone.

Agree with you there about Ferrante  and he still doesn't know how to put the ball in the net. It's enough to make you

All you guys with your ratings are missing the point surely. Goals win games, it's how many you score not how well you play.

It's a bit tricker to rate players when watching on tv stuck in Auckland, but here goes.

Moss - 8  - A couple of good saves, looks confident, nothing he could of done about the deflection for the goal.
Lochhead - 9  - Impressive. Seems to have time on the ball and times his runs up the left well.
Dodd - 7 - Solid enough
O'Dor - 7 - Much better in the central defense.
Christie - 7 - Surprised me, one of the best games I've seen him play.
Aloisi - 5 - Didn't seem to be involved as much as usual. But hard to tell on tv.
Daniel - 6 - Gave the ball away a few times and final delivery wasn't as good as it could of been. But a few nice runs and at least tries to be creative.
Felipe - 7 - Excellent first half, good to watch,  tired in the second.
Johnson - 6 - Solid enough for his first run of the season.
Ferrante - 4- Tries hard, but lacks composure and confidence. Should of scored.
Smeltz - 6 - Worked hard without doing anything special.
Coveny - 4 - Not impressive.
Brownlie - 6 - Got involved when he came on. Rushed a shot near the end. I'd like to see how he can go when given more game time.

We're lacking a quality striker. Smeltz, Brownlie and Coveny are all up to A-League level without being spectacular. It's a pitty that by most accounts George isn't up to scratch.

Brown should replace Ferrante when he is back.

why are people only giving Felipe 6?  ok he tired in the 2nd half, but he was also the most skilled player on the park

Moss - 8 - Great save and cant be blamed for the goal. Otherwise was kept quiet which thanks to the defence.
Lochhead - 7.5  - Poor start to the game, with some heavy touches and loosing position but got better as the game went on. With Daniel off was giving the task of providing width on the left and did that very well
Dodd - 8 - Calm and composed at the back, looks very good
O'Dor - 7 - Part of a solid defense
Christie - 7 - He looked good at right back, made some timely tackles and made some overlapping runs in the first half.
Aloisi - 6.5 - Does a lot of work off the ball and organises the team well, just didnt stand out today.
Daniel - 7 - Worked hard, got into some good positions just couldnt finish good work with a good cross or shot. Gave the team width and I think was missing in the second half as the formation was very effective in the first half.
Felipe - 8 - Entertaining, and a handful for defenders. Not sure how quick he is, but would like to see him running at the defence or onto balls behind the defence.
Johnson - 6 - Solid enough for his first run of the season.
Ferrante - 5- Good first half, with some nice touches. In the second half he didnt stay out wide and drifted, with Daniel on I think it helped him with a more structure to the midfield. As the game went on got a lot worse.
Smeltz - 7 - Very good with his back to the goal, worked hard. Didnt get great service.
Coveny - 5 - Worked hard when came on, but game wasnt going the Phoenix way. Almost played as a lone striker with Smeltz hanging on the left.
Brownlie - 6 - Thought made a great impact when came on and probably a better option than Coveny, hung on the right hand side a bit and gave the team an outlet on the right. Was pretty effective.
