Moss 10 an outstanding game, much more confident than his last outing
Plodder 6 Did his job and saved our bacon after one long throw
Dodd 7 Apart from the long throws, did very well
ODor 5 Showed heaps of guts battling on with injuries
Lockhead 8 Back to his best
Johnno 6 Worked hard and shut them down
Lia 7 A bit reckless in the challenges, but covered heaps of territory
Brown 7 Lovely pass for the goal, great leadership
Daniel 6 What a sweet finish. What dumb yellow cards he gets
Elrich 6 I'm still waiting...
Schchchcmeltz 9 What a leader by example this guy is. Should have had a penalty.
Covs 8 did exactly the right thing, kept the ball,  went into the corners, won the free kicks, did it again.
Brownlie 4 hmmm
Old 5 No mistakes that I saw.
Ricki 8 Got his subs right
The ref 6 Did a fine job APART from not giving Smelt a penalty when he was obviously pulled back from the ball. Players should NOT have to go down in the box to earn pens. You can see why Daniel falls over.
Well done Nix, a lucky first 15 min, but well done from there on.

Moss 10 Much more solid than Paston, he just looks confident. Our best keeper
Plodder 8 I though Plodder played very well considering how shaky the defence has been.
Dodd 7 Positioning sometimes a bit of a worry
ODor 6 How many times can one bloke get hit on the nose?
Lockhead 7 When caught out and Dodd comes across to cover, doesnt drop in the centre like he should
Johnno 7 I thought he played very well, I'd like to see him at CB though.
Lia 8 His cross field passes are awesome, real asset.
Brown 8 I thought he played very well, definete starter
Daniel 6 Wasn't involved at all but took the opportunity well.
Elrich 6 Nothing to note off, but we need to be patirnt.
God 8 Didnt have a goal tonight but the way he jinks when 1 on 1 is magical, especially  for a tall bloke. Good in the air and with his feet.
Covs 8 The word experience pretty much summed up his performance
Brownlie 6 Nothing really to note, 1 pass astray.
Old 10 I'm giving Old a 10 simply because he didnt f**k anything up, which is a massive achievement for him
Ricki 8 Subs were perfect, I almost died when I saw Old coming on, but he did OK

Moss 9 good first half saves clean sheet not much mor you could ask for
Christie 6 slow did his job a bit shaky
Dodd 8 did great considering the whole defence was under a lot of pressure saved our necks countless time
O'Dor 6.5 did good considering his injuries
Lochhead 7 slow but did a great job up that flank
Johnson 6.5 didnt get too involved hardly noticeed him but a good performance
Lia 7 bad tackler good game otherwise
Brown 7 great pass earned his spot
Elrich 6 just not presenting enough or creating he gets thje ball he loses it
Daniel 6 much like elrich the only real good build up of the game was the goal
Smeltz 7 did his best shouldve at least made the keeper work for the first shot
Coveny 6.5 fast for an old bloke
Brownlie 6.5 i thought he was good of the bench
Old 6.5 good defence near the death

overall the midfield need to give each other more space they were tackling themselves in the first half but they came out with great enthuisiasm great win.

Christie is sh*t  Does 80% bullsh*t 20% ok work, why does Ricki like this guy, he has an eplileptic when he gets the ball, seems to be on permanent backward mode, always looking back passing back, too defensive minded but not good on defence. He I would give a three for today the rest made up for his sub standard efforts.

Botafogo - Rio de Janeiro and Wellington Phoenix, my two teams til death do us part.

Does make me laugh at how some of you just go and on and on about certain players fortunately for us you are not responsible for recruitment or team selection. It also shows how different people can see something different in a player and game.

I don't think Plodder is that bad he's just too slow and gets run ragged.

Run ragged like much of our defence lately, improved a little as the game went on but think we are kidding ourselves if we think on that evidence we can look forward to more clean sheets with confidence.Bloody hope im wrong but shyte i get nervous everytime the opposition cross into our half.

im just trying to think of times when he was exposed due to lack of pace. Cant really (could be completely wrong). I think the real thing is his positioning, which should improve with time.

Agree- the most noticeable thing I see with his game is that he gives the opposition to much time and width on the ball. Think he played pretty well in Perth. I reckon he gets to much stick- largely put dwn to his defensive stuff up against CCM. Good game overall by the boys- Smeltz, Brown, Lia and in particular Mossy and Lochead (great overlapping runs) top ratings for me.

seems all too common in football Ballane- that 'fans' seem to need someone to sl*g off (9times out of 10, they use the same cliches, and fail to see when the player does improve or does something good outside the facets that they are hung-up about - e.g the anti-ferrante brigade only seem to focus on one aspect of his play)

let's hope we don't have too many of that ilk

Like Feverish said the main problem with Christie's play at right back is his positioning, but he is growing into the position. You have to remember for the last 2 seasons he has been playing solely as a midfielder. He has been miles ahead of anyone else who has played at right back this season for the phoenix, so who would you replace him with??

Christie 6 Average, but he's all we have.
Dodd 8 Without him i hate to think what would happen.
O'Dor 6.5 Give him time. Can see him improving
Lochhead 7 Dont be scared tony. So much more passive going forward than he was at the start.
Johnson 7 tough as nails.
Lia 6.5 Did a pretty good job
Brown 7.5 held us together. we needed him
Elrich 6 hopefully hits his straps
Daniel 6 Average, but won us the game.
Smeltz 7.5 So consistent.
Coveny 6.5 Showed his experience. earned his place in the squad.
Brownlie 6 Average. Replace him with Felipe.
Old 6 Better than last week.

I also agree that Jeremy Christie's positioning is poor in the right back position. He does give his man an awful lot of room to collect the ball, have a cup of tea, then run at the back four. Once or twice you can learn from it and fix the problem, but this seems to happen throughout a game. I would have thought at a professional level that would be addressed promptly.

I've made similar comments on other threads.  However, I thought against Perth he did better in this respect as the game went on.  I also think that at times you can see that he has a nice touch and composure on the ball (perhaps when he's a bit further from our penalty area), and a good pass, suggesting he is a midfielder playing as a fullback.  Of course we would like a right sided equivalent of Lochhead but as present Christie is the best option at right back unless perhaps Johnson or Ferrante was to drop back there.

During one the games, didn't I hear one of those very knowledgeable Aussie commentators saying that Lia has played full back? Although I think he's been going pretty well in midfield.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

he also started at RB for us in a pre-season game, v Newc - i think

might be better to give christie a bit longer - though it would be good to use Lia at RB v Sydney (rather than O'Dor!! or clebs!!)
