Old 5 Almost gave away a penalty

You would have had a better chance of seeing an indirect free kick for dangerous play really. Just the Aussie guys don't whistle that cause it looks untidy having an indirect in the box...

Lochead should atleast be a 7, that one minute where he made the mistake was the only bad point in his game...he had a great game after that, made some good runs too.

Have to agree about Covs. Seemed as tired as the rest of the team after 10min on the pitch?!

Ferrante's passing range was epic.
But big bad Karl Dodd was the man.

The only addition I would make to the assessment is:..
Breeze 8.. for a very fair game.. he even got to play the ball and stop a Sydney pass at one point! The Phoenix were quite fortunate with some very favourable calls from him, especially in the face of some torrid disputing from the Sydney players, and a boisterous Sydney crowd.
Based on tonight's performance, I'd go as far as saying if we could have a choice of the refs for future Phoenix games ...can we have Breeze pleeze??!!
Whaddaya reckon Dr Quack?

Thought in the scheme of things early on, the card on Daniel was a bit harsh, but then, that was a stupid thing to do with 1 foot from the touch line. Maybe a talking to and a word in Ross' ear may have been more effective?

He did well. I think he got sucked in with players falling over a couple of times (Lockhead down the touchline in the 2nd spell when he wasn't touched and dragged the back leg was a classic case) He's improved a bit (I've never been a fan of him) and I think the time he has spent doing the Asian Champions League has impressed on him. He is Australia's number 2 to Mark Shields and they are trying to get those two full time on the league because Breeze is a State Prosecutor and has to take a bit of time off work to do games and Shields is CEO of his own company I think.

True that would have been a better way to handle that issue.I think Daniel still had the adrenilin pumping after scoring TWICE from the penalty spot just prior.. Well done that man! ...and maybe was trying for a big over head kick back into play which he didn't quite pull off...Bugger.

Moss 9 Great jaw-line save near the end there
Christie 7 Have been impressed by him the last 2 weeks
Dodd 8.5 Great apart from the over head kick near the end. Really put that Patrick guy off his game.
O'Dor 7 Good but needs to stop kicking and hoping
Lochhead 6 Well, what can you say about that error? Unforgivable. Still solid after that and made a great run that I remember. Won a few free kicks too.
Felipe 8.5 Juninho who?
Ferrante 7 Much better than last week. Great passes.
Aloisi 6.5 Was a bit quiet but he's not really out there to be fancy.
Johnson 6.5 Like Aloisi. Did what he had to well.
Daniel 6.5 Good penalty taking - especially having to take it twice. Good link play/crosses too. Some of his passes around our box have me worried though. He did it about 3 or 4 times and put us in terrible positions.
Smeltz 7.5 Very impressed. Put on the pressure from the front. Unlucky not to score.
Covs 6 Think people are being a bit harsh on him - he aint 25 anymore but he still won us a corner.
Old 7 Thought he did really well in a pressure situation. valeo2007-09-15 01:49:47

Did you guys think that the midfield was left too empty so there was more space for the sydney players when they had the ball? just an observation.

It seems like everythings coming together, as soon as they got the defence sorted (last week) the strikeforce wasnt good. This week the strikeforce and defence were good and now the midfield was slightly average. I hope it's not the goalkeeping next week! I think we are finally on track and starting to gel as a team. Ricki always said it would take a number of games to become a tight unit.

Impressed with Ferrante, I despised his play last week but he's shown that his distribution going forward is one of the best in the team. I dont get his open play free kicks though, the always end up for a goal kick.

Felipe had me smiling all night! What a little legend!

Dodd and O'dor were Solid.

Lochhead was our weakest link in the first half, not just by giving the goal away but in general play his position and some passing going forward was very much lacking. In the second half he intercepted the ball well and read some nice plays.

Aloisi and Johnson were quieter than i had expected. But strong when they needed to be, I just thought they needed to close down there marker a littler quicker.

All in all, great game to watch!

GO THE NIXXXXXX!

Dodd was a quality buy, he was a rock at the back and barely put a foot wrong all match.

It was frustrating late in the second half when Smeltz got the ball in the Sydney box and fluffed around for ages - thank goodness Aloisi came in and thumped it, even if it didn't go in. Apart from that Smeltz did well.
