Moss 10 What a blinder!
Rees 7 Damn good first game
Dodd 7 Good stuff, calm when he won the ball
Old 5 Had done well till that last decision
Ferrante 7 I like that cheeky grin on his face
Aloisi 8 Nice goal, led very well
Lia 5 how many times have I told you Vince, don't muck around with it in your own half
Johnno 6 Did well
Daniel 6 Nice combinations with Felipe, great corner
Felipe 7 Too many tricks near the end, but a good game
Covs 6 Waged war up front
Brownlie 6 Showed maturity when he came on
Costa 5 Given a run, but with Ross taken off, a bad decision from the coach
ODor 3 Put in a bad place by Lia, but why does he slip over??

Moss 10 One of the greatest ever goal keeping performances by a New Zealander, or any A-League/NSL player
Rees 8 Very impressed, he worked hard and made some telling defensive decisions
Dodd 7 Good performance
Old 4 Stevey... Why baby why?  Moss would have saved it if it was a bullet off the HMAS Pinafore from two foot.
Ferrante 8 He got around nicely
Aloisi 8 Got forward well today
Lia 6 He got around the pitch well, ouch though, ouch
Johnno 6 Ditto to the above, minus the ouch
Daniel 7 Some samba magic at times, if he could get on the ball a little more he would be a major danger in the A-League
Felipe 7 Made Popovic look foolish at times
Coveney 7 He should have been awarded a penalty, he was fouled by Rudan inside the box
Brownlie 6.5 worked nicely off the bench, I thouht
Costa 5.5 Not too much wrong
ODor 0 The defensive door does it again.  He's Mr Reliable (for the opposition).  Worst A-League player.

I'm not going to blame Old. If you look at that defensive performance it was one of the best of the season, and Old deserves praise for being part of that. Half the squad missing, a new back three: top performance from our lads, sadly let down by an all too familiar defensive flub.

And apologies to Costa friends and fans but I'm afraid he is not up to A League standard just yet. Ten minutes to go in a crunch game is not the time to be giving a youngster a run.

Moss 9.  Usual miracles shot stopping, and better under high ball today
Rees 7 Solid, distribution could've been better.  Credit for tighter defence unit
Dodd 7 Normal reliable self
Old 5 What was he thinking?
O'Dor 6 Wish he inspired confidence
Ferrante 7 Steady if unspectacular
Aloisi 8 Best game in Phoenix Jersey.  Why sub Captain when its all hands to the wheel?
Lia 5 Has the skills, but surely today should end thoughts of him at right back
Johnson 6 Did the holding side of midfield fine
Daniel 6 All over the field today, often on right
Felipe 7 Constant threat, stopped SFC getting too many forward.  If only he had buried that counterattack
Coveny 6 Lonely effort, but still has pace
Brownlie 5 No real opportunity
Costa 6 Surely the time to be given a run is when the game is won/lost?  Not his fault

Until the end nobody played badly.  Did think Sydney looked more comfortable on the ball though.  To  many long hopefuls from us today.

we had no one else on the bench apart from O'dor - caught between q rock and a hard place really

Yeah, true. The general consensus now seems to be that Aloisi WAS injured, so there was no choice really.

He played well the whole game. 1 mistake. The man that your username suggests should be out... he did nothing.

At last someone who isnt taken in by a few fancy tricks,no good looking fancy if they cant deliver the ball after that.

hang on Ballane the lad's been out for 2-3 games and games back with Covs in front - rather than Smeltz, whose runs he is used to

perhaps i am taken in by his skills, but I am happy to pay to watch those skills, i was fairly close to the pitch by the penalty area and some of his first touches were as breath-taking as Mossy's saves

and he certainly contributed to 3 points last time we beat Sydney

whilst he might have released the ball more effectively once or twice, he was also hampered by lack of runs by others into the box, or outside him - like Lochy provides

I was pretty gutted last night and was at the backbencher trying to get News, Tom Randles, petemcc and the ginger_eejit to join me in a lynch mob to put on police helmets and go back to the stadium and hoist Old from his undies on the flagpole.

But am now too tired to be angry.

It was a TERRIBLE decision to grab that shirt at that point in the game in that place on the field.  Just awful.  But apart from that I don't recall Old being particularly bad.  It was a stone cold penalty but I've seen them not given and you have to wonder if the ref wasn't just itching to give Sydney something from the game.  Prick.

I wasn't exactly sitting down analysing anything, but it did look to me as if Felipe gave the ball away a lot.  Maybe that's because he didn't know Coveny's runs (seems unlikely, they train together) or maybe it's because he's a show pony and goes missing in important games, but who cares, he's been good value so far and is entertaining and exciting to watch.  I'd rather have him than another Aloisi.

As for bagging Barbarouses, he did nothing wrong and has only twenty minutes of game time at this level to his name.  He has looked excellent in the training games I've seen the Nix play, so how people can call for him to get the archer now I do not know.  Plenty of others have offered more evidence they're not up their job, so get your priorities right.

Besides, if we chop him we can't chant 'nothing rhymes with barbarouses'!

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

there was a spell there of about a minute where Felipe and Daniel were pulling out their tricks, and it was the greatest minute of football/pisstake I have ever seen

I remember him giving the ball away at least twice with poor first touches that Dodd would have been ashamed of.

In the 2nd half, attacking the goal at the Fever Zone, he did 2 stepovers before proceeding to run into the Sydney player. Anyone can run into another player, it dont take a Brazilian or 2 step-overs to do it. For all his tricks and flips he achieved nothing.

Im a fan of Felipe as long as what creative work he does actually comes off - but not one thing creative he did was good. Also seemed a tad lacklustre - not getting stuck in and running, a department Daniel has greatly improved in

2nd half on the left side of the pitch
It was world class

I think Old played brilliantly until the penalty. As im saying with Ferrante-at least they're improving. Remember the sh*t we gave Ferrante...now look at him.

Old had a great game and the defence looked the best they have since the first pre-season game! So Old should take the blame? Not so - Lia's pass to O'Dor caused it all - what else could Old do? Give the guy a break.

FFS.

Why the f**k did we piss around with the ball for the last 10 minutes instead of turning the screws?

All we did was pass the ball among the defenders and every time we attacked we ended up going backwards.

When Popovic got sent off we should have been trying to put the game beyond doubt. Don't know about you guys but I could just sense we were going to do something stupid by trying to run the clock down.

Every Phoenix player was superb for 80 minutes, then we got stupid.

Thats not gonna help the crowd numbers for the next game.

Daniel certainly plays better and looks more comfortable when Felipe is in the side - whenever Felipe is out Daniel seems to spend his time watching the ball zoom beyond him.

I hope the Nix continue with the Brasilian 'theme' next year and sign two more lads (assuming they manage to nail Felipe down to a new deal).  2 out of 4 this year, if they get 2 next year and 1 is as good as Daniel/Felipe it'd be awesome.

I don't think we had much choice. Aloisi, Johnson, Felipe, Daniel were obviously all struggling near the end there. Felipe lacking match fitness and Aloisi,Johnson,Daniel all carrying injuries.

btw I hope we sign Felipe for another year soon. That guy is entertainment personified.

Moss 10. Can we go higher than 10 because he was outstanding!
Rees 8. Always there, when we all knew O'Dor wouldn't have been. Good purchase.
Dodd 7. Did well, and seemed to be inspired by having Rees around.
Old 5. Did alright, but is he really up to A-League standard?!
Ferrante 7. Had a few runs that were brilliant, and worked hard.
Aloisi 8. Showed why he's captain! But why bring him off??
Lia 5. Didn't see too much of him.
Johnson 6. Same as Lia, just a little better.
Daniel 6. Had a few glimpses of brilliance, but was soooooo lazy getting back. Seemed to jog half the time.
Felipe 7. Why shave your head Felipe?! Was a good attacking influence on the others and actually had the balls to take a shot; unlike the others!
Coveny 6. For a lone-striker, he seemed to header the ball to no-one an awful lot! Control the ball m8!!
Brownlie 5. Where was he supposed to be playing?!
Costa 5. Has so much potential, but play him as a striker, not a winger.
O'Dor 5. Had bugger all time to make an impact.

I think Old played well for 90 minutes. Pity that he gave away the penalty after that however a couple of weeks ago he would have just let the guy go past him. At least it shows his commitment. He has manned up and is taking responsability for his area of the defence in the last two games. Haven't seen those 50:50 passes from him either which is good. Still has a way to go but I think we could be seeing right now is him maturing into a good player.
