Well it sure was an entertaining game, but sadly I'm not a neutral, so not much fun, anyway, take a breath and...
Paston ? hmmm Nice punch
Crowther 6 Did pretty well sweeping behind the defence, exposed by his defence today
Manny 5 Not up to his usual standard
Siggy 5.5 Not quick enough for the one goal, mostly solid
Dura 6 Still played well enough
Lochie 6 Caught out of position a couple of times
Leo 5.5 Just not getting chances or making them. One good cross.
Brown 5.5 Maybe should have scored with that header
Lia 6 Did well, some good passes
Ifill 7.5 Came into it in second half, created the chances, almost scored, earned a pen
Daniel 6 Unlucky to have pen disallowed
Greenie 5 Not much happening
Costa 7.5 Bloody good header narrowly wide, a scored. Good one
Troy 5 Not really a central player.

Hmm
Whaddya think?

I would bump Daniel up to 6.5, I thought his balls were dangerous at times, but that seems about right to me, maybe Lia to 6.5 aswell, but our midfield was a bit porous occasionally so...

Ifill wasted at least one good opportunity by shooting direct instead of crossing for Greenacre.  While he was lively, it looked like the lesson he drew from trouncing GCU by playing provider was that - he should try scoring more goals.  A straight 7 - good, but really needs to keep himself under control.

In the same light, Greenacre not getting much ball is largely the midfield's/manager's fault.  (I'm not panning Ricki for his tactics so much as the squad he started the season with.  Signing Fred should make quite a difference.)  Greenie soldiered away to little avail, which is worth a 6.  (If you want to see a striker seriously underperforming, look up Greg Draper's wasted chances and lack of industry for the TeeDubs this NZFC round.)

Muscat was about a 2 tbh. The whole teams scores are probably too high.

I don't think you could give Ifill a 7.5, except as a transparent ploy to encourage him to stay with the club by praising him to high heaven. He was anonymous in the first half but did lift in the 2nd, still not enough for that mark.

The rest I agree with though.

Paston - n/a
Crowther - 5 not really at fault, didn't inspire confidence though
Manny - 4 poor on defense, nothing going forward
Siggy - 3 at fault for a goal + clattered paston
Dura - 5 OK. pass mark
Lochie - 4 poor.
Leo - 5 didn't really do much of value
Brown - 4 invisible. only popped up to miss opportunities
Lia - 5 pass mark
Ifill - 6 looked disinterested often, better in 2nd half
Daniel - 6 lost his nerve on the retake, but offered more than most
Greenie - 3 rubbish. isolated and does nothing when he does get the ball. waaahhh waaahh 'runs all day'.
Costa 7 - confidence boosting goal, not sure if he meant to do that. looked lively and offered something different
Troy 4 - not a central midfielder. was a nothing man in the middle

Paston 2 - injured early...very early
Crowther 6 - MIGHT have done better with 2nd goal, a bit harsh though

Muscat 4 - had rings ran around him most of the day, 2nd goal was turned inside out
Sigmund 6 - hammered for pace at 3rd goal, didn't look good. Otherwise ok
Durante 6 - part of a defence posted missing at goals 2 + 3
Lochhead 5 - back to aimless crossing after much more direct play just last week

Bertos 5 - fairly quiet day again, needs rested
Brown 5 - didn't do much, bad miss from free header
Lia 6 - not bad but generally dominated by the Sydney midfield (as were the others)
Daniel 6.5 - some decent crosses, a bit unlucky with penalty decision but 2nd attempt was poor

Ifill 7 - tried hard and eventually got an assist
Greenacre 6 - couple of half chances but another average kind of day for him

Subs -

Costa 7 - willing to run at players, offers a different option
Hearfield 5 - not much time to do anything

I would suggest that lochie should be about 3 maybe 3.5. I watched while sydney scored two goals he was ball watching and not doing a defensive job, the goal that brosque out ran siggy, he just ambled in behind bridge.
Apart from last week he has been droppable all season. must be on last legs but ricki seems to like him, id have manny there and a number of players we have to sit in at right back.
Still thought ifill was our best, but was marked out of the game in the first half and looked more dangerous went put out wide 6 maybe 6.5

Crowther 6 Did alright - still parried the ball right into the path of the Sydney player even though it was Muscat's fault in the first place. Was a bit shaky at times too - seems to be strung out on something imo
Manny 4.5 Not up to his usual standard
Siggy 5 One of his worst games for us though a lot of the blame has to go to Muscat - he had to try and cover his position on several occasions
Dura 5.5 See above - reminded me of the Newcastle game at the start of the season
Lochie 6.5 Not his best game but still the best pick of the defence
Leo 5.5 Still quiet. Has been like that for weeks now. Made one good run.
Brown 5 Invisible
Lia 7 I've been openly critical about what he brings but I have to admit when i'm wrong - he put in some superb passes and stood out in a sh*te midfield
Ifill 7 Invisible first half, came into it in the 2nd
Daniel 6 Missed penalty. Sure, it was re taken but as a professional footballer he should still have the nerve to slot it.
Greenie 6 The long balls from half way and aimless crosses from near abouts do not suit his game at all - you can tell we're playing bad when we do that
Costa 7.5 Big impact when he came off the bench - still not entirely convinced he should start but to be fair couldn't do much more than he did
Troy 6 Made a couple of decent runs

This is about right. That game knocked me over after brimming with confidence from the game Sunday. Hopefully, and I believe we will, make amends Wednesday and Sunday with two wins.

The best quote for Tim Brown- as I said to my wife just before the end of the game- the guy was invisible- but to quote me as an olt timer, he was hideing. This guy is one one of the worst mid-field players to ever play for the AW's

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid
