Thought id throw it out here - I feel like Muscat hasn't shown much form this year and I'm wondering if its literally down to him being an automatic pick for the last however many seasons.

Fullback has always been our weak area and Manny has basically always been picked and thrown onto one side or the other. He definitely seems like his position is assured and he looks to play like that sometimes.

Not saying he was terrible, just saying the past few weeks I have noticed he hasn't really had that extra fighting edge and form that we know and love him for.

Could someone provide an NCEA style assessment?

  • Achieved (A) for a satisfactory performance
  • Merit (M) for very good performance
  • Excellence (E) for outstanding performance
  • Not achieved (N) for being pants or honking

Zadkovic was worth a 9.5 for us. He had a major impact on Lia when he went on and then off.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Apart from the consistent giving away the ball, both goal scorers were being marked by Muscat when they scored...

Impressed with Roly and Roy, the rest were pants.. (sorry Moss, didnt have much to do)

First goal was on Doyle imo, dived in on Hersi one on one. Got done, Hersi was free on goal, could pick his pass.

Moss had to make two good saves.

I thought Dura was fine, couldn't have done much more that I saw. Siggys distribution was well dodgy and he caught us several times

To be fair that was a great bit of skill from Hersi, who, except for one game, has been absolute rubbish this season. Doyle shepherded him to the sideline, didn't actually dive in but failed to crowd him into touch and Hersi brilliantly flicked it around the outside of him. I don't blame Manny too much either. He really exerted himself to get in front of De Silva (a pity he didn't do the same to Keogh later on) but as so often happens when a team's luck is out, only succeeded in diverting it onto De Silva's body and in.

I wouldn't rate any player higher than a 6. In the first half I thought that our body language was wrong. A sort of defeatist slump of the shoulders when we lost out on 50-50 balls or had a decision go against us, some frustrated arm waving and shrugging between players. Made me think that the loss against Adelaide took a bit more of a psychological toll than we think, obviously not helped by conceding here in the 2nd minute. Ernie talks about instilling a winning mentality in the Nix but unfortunately I think two seasons of hard knocks have left team morale a little fragile and that definitely showed last night.

Until I saw the ratings I did not realise that Brockie was playing. :)

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Nah. Hersi picked the rookie mistake. Otherwise Hersi was shithouse and did not beat Doyle again. Mind you, he only had to beat him once...

amazing doyle can do no wrong . Has been at fault for many a goal already and is still not to blame .

For me Durante, Moss and Roly are the only players who deserve 5 or more out of ten on that effort.

Err pretty sure everyone has said that Doyle didn't have a great game.

I was meaning the goals we have conceded where he has had a role in them. There is an OG and I think 2 others he was involved in mistakes?

The reason Doyle gets criticised less is because he is young and we think/hope he will improve.

and because he was decent in preseason, and has put in a few decent left footed crosses, and after years of tumble-weeds may actually be a home grown fullback...

I don't think anyone is ignoring his misses, but let's see- peno misses to Brockie and McG, sitter misses to Louis and actually a few wins and some good footy- means that we're showing perspective. Not a scapegoat.

but I thought Lia is always the scapegoat?

I think it's quite obvious why Doyle has been given more leeway.

He's a young fullback; these are in short supply in the a-league, and in even shorter supply in NZ

He has still cost us 3 goals in 4 games.

Young or not, that isn't a very good return. I think he will improve, but he needs to sort his brain fades quickly or he'll start seeing a lot of pine.

jbs and caira were younger and were cast as use less by this stage without costing any goals . Amazing

I always enjoy your ratings threads (even though I think this is the first time I've ever commented), but I think your ratings are generally a little high and overly nice. Mainly 6 to 7's seems too high in a below average performance.

What does Jason's wife think of this suggestion that he and Doyle might start seeing each other?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.
