Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Moss 7 didn't really have a lot to do
Cleberson 4 Had a rough first 20 min then improved
Dodd 7 Did well as usual
O'Dor 6 Mostly did well too
Old 3 Played them onside for the second goal, passing poor
Lia 6 Worked hard but nothing special
Johnno 8 Excellent passing
Aloisi 6 Did job well
Daniel 5 Quiet again
Covs 5 Not much impact but one run deserved a goal
Ferrante 5 Ran his butt off, imagine if he scores, it could open the floodgates!
Elrich 5 Some nice passes, pulling down his brother was pretty pathetic
George 6 Looking to make something happen

Brownlie 4 Little impact
Ref 3 Oh dear

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

That's harsh on Old, Oi Oi, he also performed a try saving tackle, scored a goal and got forward well.   All on his unfavoured side.

I couldn't possible rate his overall match as worse than Cleberson's.

How's my driving? - Whine here

Ref should be 0.

Three for me, and two for them.

Not his fault he should have been at the stadium today may have done better than those that did turn up.

for the first time this season I think there should be some genuine question marks over team selection.

1) Cleberson should never have been at right back, either Lia or Old should have started there.

2) Old should never have been at left back, Daniel should have been moved back to fill that spot and somebody else (is Costa left footed?) should have filled his spot (perhaps george could have gone there). It's far more important to have a left footed LB than LWM!

3) Bringing Ferrante off at half time. This was a strange decision as well. He should have switched things round in the full back positions as that's where we were getting killed.

The other alternative was a back 3 (Clebo, O'dor, Dodd) with Lia/Elrich and Daniel as wing backs.

The other huge issue for me is our lack of pace. We don't have it anywhere on the park at the moment. Our CB's are clearly slow. Our FB's (perhaps with the exception of Lochhead when he's back) are dangerously slow. Our CM's are certainly slow (Johnson + Aloisi are both in their 30's. Hopefully Brown will be a little quicker). Daniel is the slowest man on earth and Coveny, while surprisingly quick for an old fella, is slow as well.

Of our genuine first XI only Smeltz, Felipe and Lochhead, Ferrante and perhaps Elrich (didn't see him take anyone on and his brother had him done for pace) have any legs on them. George seems to have pace, but not a great deal else, don't know about Brownlie as he hasn't had enough game time to try skin anyone.

I would really like to see Costa have a run, especially if he is quick. It's no coincidence that the players who have the most success against us are the young and fast ones (Elrich, Zullo, Holland, Kruse etc), we need to give our youth a shot as well.

the ref not giving  a red for the last man takle on Coveny had a huge impact on the game, and the outside backs showed a severe lack of pace especially when thay pushed foward and could get back!

perhaps we should get rid of Daniel and replace him with Linford Christie

I agree Ripthajacka.  I think it is great for his development to be envolved but would shudder to see him with a regular starting place.  Considering this is a mainly Wellington based forum we may be in for a beating here.

My personal view:

Moss 6.5: DId a good job - still conceded two, although not his fault
Cleberson 5: His start was awful but came back and improved lots
Dodd 7: Great defensive skills
O'Dor 6: Yep, good stuff
Old 5: Has responsabilities but, tried his best
Lia 6.5: Played well, considering his past injuries and the fact that this was his debut
Johnno 7: Lots of work, better than Rossy today.
Aloisi 6: Sufficient.
Daniel 5.5: Tried hard, maybe should not wait for his team mates all the times but just try and beat the defenders, shoot, be a Brazilian.
Covs 5.5: Did the hard work and ran a lot more than in the last game.
Ferrante 4.5: I'm a big fan of his. but he obviosuly has some mental block. People say "he can't score" and he really can't. Let's leave him alone, cause he got game and will find the back of the net. It's a matter of self-belief rather than skills.
Elrich 5.5: Debut - not fit yet. Showed he can pass and cross.
George 5.5: Not a shot at goal.
Brownlie N/A Not enough time to show us his magic
Ref 4: Ridiculous

Ricky Hernert 6.6: Showed up at the game - which everyone appreciated. He put a good team on the pitch and made the right changes at the right time. Perhaps he should have put George and Brownlie on 15 minutes earlier. Good luck with the AW's now.

Moss 7 Made a great save.
Cleberson 4 Will only play again if O'Dor or Doddy are injured.
Dodd 7.5 Rock. Always is.
O'Dor 6 Did ok. Solid enough
Old 4 Lacking passing ability
Lia 6.5 Made a good effort. Advanced his reputation
Johnno 6.5 Too similiar to aloisi. But was better than him today.
Aloisi 6 Middling to average.
Daniel 6 Ok. Not vintage daniel.
Covs 5 He's still a good player. Dont like the formation.
Ferrante 5 Didnt realise he was playing until he missed the goal again. Times up.
Elrich 6  Liked the way he played, he WILL be a star for us.
George 6 Gives us an injection of energy and speed.

What an absurd suggestion. We already have our 4 imports

I know that Mossy has had some good games thus far, but we're really in need of a clean sheet.  For a keeper to have consistenly good games but still not a clean sheet to his name - either the defense are not doing their job or he's getting out of position and having to make saves harder than they should be.

I like the guy but until we show we can lock down attackers for 90 min I'm still worried about him.  Perhaps give Paston one game to see if it makes a difference.

Its not a keepers job to lock down attackers, but i don't think its entirely the defences fault we are conceding either. Also don't think Moss has done a lot wrong, not sure it would have made a difference to any result had Paston been in goal.

Paston is playing against Fiji midweek so lets se how he goes.

we have had this debate - unless you can point out fundamental mistakes - then these is no point in making these comments

yea, cant really blame moss when the newcastle central midfielder ran 20 metres untracked and buried it - hasn't made a lot of genuine mistakes
