Moss - 7 - Some dodgy moments but overall pretty sound
Old - 6 - Its lucky we played Perth, otherwise he couldve been disastorous
Dodd - 8 - Outstanding for me, really anchors that defence
Rees - 7 We certainly look better defensively with him.
Lochhead - 8 - Some great runs down the wing. Very effective. Well done Ricki
Lia - 8 - Great ball for Smeltz's goal
Ferrante - 9 - Some of his cross field balls would make Beckham blush.
Elrich - 6 - For f**ks sake. Im not his biggest fan, to say the least. Wont/Cant take on his man, he's about as fast as Christie and his crosses arent consistent. Marquee player -
Smeltz - 8 - Top scorer
Covs - 7 - Some bad passes back into the midfield but generally did well.

Daniel - 3 - Call me English, but for f**ks sake stop diving! Wasnt even a good dive! Shooting opportunity and you're falling down. Then  have a shooting opportunity and you take it wider before producing a weak shot? Whats all that about?

Christie - 6 - Nothing really to note

Johnson - 6 - Not enough time to influence.

Think a 6 is a bit high for Elrich but I'd say you got the rest pretty much spot on.

..and Daniel's dive in the box was an absolute shocker

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I don't think it was a Dive, it looked more like he tripped over the ball.

Moss-8 - a few close shaves but got off his line quickly and made good saves
Old-5- Seems to hesitate and wtf was he doing attacking the goaly when the ball was nowhere near!
Dodd-8-Another superb perfomance, true workhorse
Rees-6-A bit slow but got there in the end, don't fancy him pushing forward at all.
Lochead-9- Best game of season for him imo, tthis is his position now; got that attacking speed and ability to drop back when need be
Lia-9- Wow that ball was of Beckham quality, skilful too
Ferrante-8- don't recall any mistakes seems to play allright
Elrich-6- mixed thoughts about him, 1st half played better, slow and crosses not that flash, need some height on em
Smeltz- 9- A brace; a man of class
Covz-8- ok
Felipe-8- Like him in this position, way better 1st touch than Covz and Shane

Bench- not that much impact but no cock ups

Felipe - 8 - Tried to many wonderballs for my liking but impressed overall.

Daniels dive/fall over/faint is f**king disgraceful. I feel someone must give him a talking to cause its embarassing.

Old's crossfield path was glorious :)

I thought Daniel did alright in the 8 minutes he was given, he was energetic following the ball around. He missed a few chances.  IF he had been on longer he would ave gotten into the game better.

Just saw the "Dive" again and yeah, it looked like he stood on the ball and tripped over.

Pretty much agree with above.  Think you're a bit hard on Rees, he did a good job containing Karpeh, which wasn't easy (why o why didn't he start?).

Smeltz is a classic enigma.  Thought there were times when his first touch looked weak tonight, and composure an issue.  But that second goal was pure class.

Honourable mentions:  Moss (as always), Dodd, Lochhead.

Haven't seen a replay, but you seem an honourable sort of chap, so I'll take your word for it.

Moss - 7 - Not his best game in a Wellington shirt but still made some great saves
Old - 5.5 - I don't rate this guy. He always looks unsure which is a quality you really don't want your defenders to have
Dodd - 8 - Our best defender yet again
Rees - 7 - A few dodgy headers but apart from that ok
Lochhead - 9 - Great game. Showed Elrich how to play on the wing properly. Should've scored though.
Lia - 9 - The Melbourne reject was once again impressive
Ferrante - 9 - Very good. Plays well with Lia which is not suprising. Another Melbourne reject stepping up
Elrich - 4 - I'm starting to dislike this guy. He never takes on his man (even when they were down to 10 and the person sent off was the one marking him out of the game) , he always crosses it into a defender, he is slower than most of the Yellow Fever supporters and he is not anywhere near deserved of marquee status.
Smeltz - 8.5 - Great header for the 3rd goal and took the penalty well. His touch let him down again on occasion but he still got 2 goals so you can't really criticize too much.
Covs -  8 - Thought he was pretty damn good today. I've been impressed with him this year. He holds the ball up well and usually makes the right decision.
Felipe - 7.5 - Will have to watch the game again but I didn't really focus on him much/didn't notice him often enough. Probably just me being blind

Daniel - 3 - Crap when he came on. Did 100 stepovers and got tackled, dived when he could've shot, had the weakest shot i've ever seen etc. - he doesn't seem to know how to shoot or score with his foot. I don't really understand why because he has a great pass/cross on him.

I think most of these comments are generous.
As a team, I thought we were appalling tonight, we were playing nine men, and stil Perth looked better on the ball at the end.

Moss - 8 - Possibly saved the Phoenix from a 9 man disaster.
Old - 7- Steady
Dodd - 8 - Solid, but dont let him distribute the ball
Rees - 8  - Did some great defensive work, but one or two dodgy passes
Lochhead - 7 - Good effort overall, looked threatening down the left. Snatched at an open goal.
Lia - 6 - Great ball for Smeltz's goal, but the midfield should have dominated more
Ferrante - 6 - Went back too much and should have dominated more
Elrich - 4 One or two good touches but against 9 men he should have done more. He was given some shocking passes all night long though.
Smeltz - 6 Good goal , but struggled against the Perth defence
Covs - 6 Worked hard but struggled against the Perth defence. Good run for the penalty.
Felipe 6 - Not dominating enough in the midfield
Johnson - 5 happy to knock the ball backwards against 9 men when 3-0 up.
Daniel - 7 benefit of the doubt in the short time he was on

Overall , this was VERY poor and I though Perth were rather unlucky.

Moss - 8 clean sheet
Old - 6 should have been a goal
Dodd - 9 class act again
Rees - 7 - first time i have seen him play looks the goods
Lochhead - 9 - Great game
Lia - 9 - starting to play really well
Ferrante - 9 -has a great pass
Elrich - 6 not playing his best yet
Smeltz - 10  he never give up we wouldn't be second .........................to last with out him
Covs -  8 - other good game we look so much better with 2 up front
Felipe - 7 he's been better

Daniel - 6 he's been one of our bette rplayer this season

We didn't play all that well tonight, but some players did very well. Lia, Lockhead, Dodd, Ferrante. 7 - 9s
Covs was pretty good, as was Smeltz too. 6s
Felipe, Rees, average
Elrich? Oh dear, I'd give him a 4.
Johnno came on and led by example. DON'T give the ball away. Don't knock it long. Why on Earth wasn't he starting? Dunno who I'd have dropped for him, but we have to have him ni the centre midfield.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Rees, superb ball in for the Smeltz pen, Rees is a great addition at the back and with his passing (he also made the pen when covs was brought down last week!)

Daniel, he only had 10 mins - give him a break, he works his arse off and is no mug

lochy - magic 1st half

You do realise that English players frequently dive too.

Three for me, and two for them.

Finally....someone who actually saw the value that Johnson brought when he came on.  Get the ball, shift it, get the ball, shift it - when it's 11 v 10 and then 11 v 9, you let the ball do the work.

Perth bossed the game in the first 20 minutes of the second half - it was if they had 11 and we had 10.  Johnson arrived, put his foot on the ball and calmed us down.  Immense. Total professional.  Superb 20 minutes Johnno - well done.

Lockhead gets a 10 for me. Every cross was near perfect if only others could read his game and run onto them. He's got a decent right foot shot and caused them all sorts of hheadaches. He tracked back well and defended like there was no tomorrow. My own nomination for MOTM. Inspiring tonight.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

This was a disappointing aspect of the game - the inability of a cool head(s) to control and retain possession. We looked really amatuerish for long periods, and no one in the team was blameless. At least Johnson settled things but I also feel we needed the experience of Aloisi or Brown from the word go. I don't want to single out individuals but there were some poor performances tonight. Thank god we won....

Yes

They look pretty similar from afar, haircuts almost identical.

The best way to tell is:
If the player did something bad, it was Old.
If the player did something good, it was Dodd.

Elrich did play sh*te,i havent seen him this season actually perform well, except for that long range goal he scored a couple of weeks ago.

You can see Elrich hesitate every time when its decision time to go for it, you know, the times when Lia went for the 50:50 balls last night. Time to take his man on, Time to shoot, he'd better improve bloody soon. Ricky is giving him lots of chances.

Lia has come on well, he's a buzzy little player puts me in mind of a certain Mr McKay (sp) from '82

he played some great first time balls yesterday
