A difficult one this, we were beaten by a couple of good strikes, a couple of good saves, injury to Siggy and by the game plan backfiring.
Pasty 7 Made a couple of really good saves and got off his line well
Lia 4.5 Struggled, not so much with the defending, but being able to pass or cross the ball to anyone on our team
Siggy 7 Great interceptions as usual, please have only a two day niggle and come back!
Dura 5 Dunno what he was going on about to the lino when Pasty had just made a great save that earned him the yellow, beaten by the Albanian, should have been pinged with a penalty too
Lochie 6 A couple of really good overlaps and took players on
Smith 6 Tried to keep things moving
Dani 5.5 One great run, but little else
Greenie 5.5 Doesn't contribute much from the midfield, good try with the lob
Ifill 6 Thwarted by 2 good saves
Leo 6 Apart from blowing his one on one completely, I though he was making a difference and would have kept him on
Brown 6 Was cheated into getting a yellow, he never touched him, put pressure on up top but couldn't get back to stop Nicholls from scoring
Daniel 6 Straight into action, should have been on for Dani
Pav hmmm

What do you think????

think may ricki needs to stop playing sanchez out so wide. The combination of sanchez, brown, bertos doesnt seem to work too well. IMO daniel would be a better option for bertos as he does seem to play well with sanchez when given the opportunity

Sums it up well for me, Oi Oi. Although I think many have judged Lia a little harshly. Not sure what else we could've expected from him. Worked hard, never stopped running but filling Manny's boots is a tricky job for anyone.

Well I would expect a "midfielder" to be able to pass, so I guess I have allowed those expectations to colour my rating!

Knock Smith and Leo down a half each for those wasted chances, Smith's in particular was a shocker as he had plenty of time to do better.

Leo looked like he was running it down, looked up to see who had made it into the box to cross to, found no one, and took the shot. If they're all back defending they cant match his speed to get forward in time. He did what he to do. IMO it was a good shot, and a good goalie stopped it.

Thought Lochie coulda stepped up the attack a bit more with Manny out. Looked good when he did.

What has happened to Ward? dare I say it I wouldn't have minded 15 minutes from him out there today...

and...this may be blasphemy also wish Ifill had passed to Pav, but good greedy strikers instincts still...

Pav could run around a barn door 30 times with the enthusiasm of a kid at christmas, but he couldn't hit one.

I agree that that's what Leo was trying to do, but the point is that that's not what he should have been trying to do. When you're through on goal you don't pull wide and look for someone to cross to, you have a crack.

Yes his shot wasn't too bad, but he really should have been in a different position when he took it.

We just won four games on the trot with that combination

Funnily enough he did exactly the same thing with a one on one in Dunedin. First touch took him too wide. In that position a player should not be looking for a cross!!!!

It seems to work OK, given we've won a few games using that combination - however in the second half when Sanchez had possession closer to the middle of the park, he was far more effective. I don't think out wide suits him much either.

This
Will be interesting with Brown out. Surely Sanchez will take up Browns position and Ward or Daniel out wide.
I expect Dani to flourish.

Agree...cannot fault Lia's work rate....But you need more at this level and Lia struggles big time to make an impact in most  matches .. but would expect him to pass the ball more often too one of our players....[ but not the only one with this problem]
