Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Well they can only get better, you would hope....
Mossy 9 such a shame he had to be at his best, but thank God he was
Muscat 4 Didn't keep his area solid, late in the game, he had wingers there unmarked while he was..... um...
McCain 5 Some good work, but was dodgy at times, managed to step over a cross for their goal
Durante 7 Rescued his team a few times late in game
Lochy 6 Good to see him running fwd
Dodd 5 Worked his butt off but looked too often like he is a makeshift player there, passing atrocious in first half
Ferrante 6 Did well enough
Bertos 6 quite a few breaks, poor crosses
Daniel 5 Not in game enough
Kwasnik 5 Should have scored, unlucky I guess, didn't make enough else happen
Smeltz 8 Knows how to score, picked up from where he was last year
Johnno - Why wasn't he on at half time??
Hearfield - looked eager
Sorry to seem negative, but I think we were bloody lucky to draw this game. Feel free to disagree!

Very lucky to draw. I don't disagree with any of your ratings, they seem there or thereabouts.

good to see normal service resumed OOE

thought Kwasi played some good balls in the first half including one superb first time 30-40 metre angled volley out to leo (Kwas  ended up dropping a bit deep as the half wore on)

would have given Muscat more than 4 but didn't see their goal clearly

rest inclined to agree maybe a six fordaniel as he seems to offer a bit extra when he has the ball

Johno might well push Doddy for that role as the season progres (though i do think the qlnd midfield will prove fairly handy - as usual)

Yeah good call. Id knock Bertos down a point,he had his good moments, but doesnt seem commited enough. Never chases anything, kept starting runs then stopping them,Daniel got a few great balls to where Bertos was running too...only to find he was too lazy to carry the run through

Agree with most but dont think Mossy was a 9.Wasnt called on that much and some very sloppy distribution.

agree with ya oi oi except would prob lower dodd and raise kwas - hard to tell because no one other than smeltz imo really created things time and time again - pretty quite nite for the nix disapointingly

Daniel was a little quiet but you can't give him a five when it was his brilliant pass that created the goal for us. I'd give Ferrante a seven, and I think you'll find it was actually Durante who was more at fault for their goal than McKain. Kwasnik probably more like a 6, he seemed to start gelling a little more. I'd still start Gao though.

Im almost tempted to controversially say...start Gao and bench daniel, let him come on as an impact player

Yeah I agree, I've said this about 10 times but Daniel is lazy and needs to put more of an effort in.

I was happy with Bertos and Hearfield.  And boy we were close to a second goal midway through the secondhalf when one of our defenders booted the ball upfield and the Roar defence weren't there.  They only just undid the attack with their keeper.

Dodd did some good things in the game, but overall he was woeful.  His attempted kick in the first half springs to mind.

Fair enough ratings on most accounts... Thought overall the performance was very average so I'd say 7s all round.

We just seemed a bit wooden...
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Agree, thought Muscat was our best defender tonight.

Johnson has to start ahead of Dodd next game.

Leo had an average game. Also, although he did some alright things, I think we have better options than Kwasnik in the attacking midfielder role.

Don't disagree with the rating too much, but I'd give both Muscat and Bertos 5, and maybe an 8 for Moss, he made the saves to give us the point late on, and was very assured overall, but didn't have to make any outstanding saves that I think would warrant a 9.

Disappointing to see Daniel dive again and get a yellow card.

I thought he'd learned that lesson last season. Dumb football and it hurts the team.

That yellow was for showing the ref where he got hacked on his leg

To be honest QLD were quite dirty (tugging shirts, elbows, shoves in the back etc.) and the ref didn't pick up on it so I think our players had a right to complain.

Queensland have always been like that, as has cheateing Ben Williams.

Doesn't change how rubbish we were when we had the ball.

Same old aussies...

I agree that Bertos' crossing wasn't fantastic but he did show on a few occasions that he really has a ton of pace and can get around defenders.  Pace is something we really lacked last year so I can't really bag him too much.

Also I though Muscat did pretty well, Queensland always attack hard down the wings and they showed it again today.  Was it last years defense we would have lost the game and that's in no small part due to Muscat and Lochhead doing some good work out wide.  I think he did look to get forward a bit too much though and at times left us exposed back there.

Overall, I thought it was a poor showing, but the QLD team are very good. Van Dijk is a handfull and the fat bastard Miller is a tricky little bugger.

Mossy 7 Good saves that rescued blunders
Muscat 6 Thought he played decent from where I was standing, didnt see much of him though
McCain 6 Solid enough, I guess.
Durante 7 Thought he played very well, deserves to be captain
Lochy 8 Thought Lochy was brilliant, his touches are always great, passes acurate and forward runs progressive. Easily the best LB in the league.
Dodd 1 A fish out of water. Was too slow to catch any of their players (Even Miller was outsprinting him!!), passes were nearly always to them. Had 5 minutes where he did well, then started losing the ball again. Johnson to start ahead of Dodd.
Ferrante 6 Thought he played well
Bertos 6 Good pace, skill and touches. Daniel or Gao to take free-kicks please - trying to put a whole in a defenders stomach is not gonna score us goals from set pieces.
Daniel 4 Nothing really to note except a great ball for the goal.
Kwasnik 5 HArdly present
Smeltz 9 Worked his bollox off, twice the running of some players, and a well taken goal.

Referee - 1 - I paid $25 to see a game of flowing football, not to hear a symphony of your whistle blowing every 10 seconds. If the players are fouling, put your first down first with bookings in the first half to stop the silly fouls, not late in the second where it achieves nothing

Not too far from my view - except that:
1.) maybe a bit generous for Lochy (thought some of his distribution was awry at times)
2.) Didnt see a lot of Ferrante (not sure that is good or bad) but thought we got blitzed in the midfield, so without seeing the tape I reckon he prob has to take some responsibility for that
3.) Laying on a goal, even if you play indifferently otherwise, is worth more than 4

Why do we get Ben Williams so often at home?  especially when so obvious he is a cheat.
A League making sure the Nix dont make the playoffs.
The refs are crap in general but he is biased can/has/will the club protest?

Lochead an 8, are you farken serious? He had an absolute mare. His crosses were absolute sh*te mate.

The crosses were poor across the board, but at least Lochy was going forward, which is more than can be said at times when we looked like we didnt know what to do with the ball when we had it.

Thought Muscat played pretty well, tough role to play when you have Daniel and Bertos in front of you and he did it well. Bertos had a decent first half and Daniel a great ball for the goal but otherwise these two were ordinary.

Dodds was diaboloical, pre-season the nix played through the midfield and maintained possession well. Against the Roar the midfield could not hang on to it and we resorted to ineffective long balls from the back. I can't blame the back four for this as the central midfielders were not showing and when they did it largely broke down with Dodds. Johnson needed to be on much sooner.

Liked the look of Hearfield, he looks like a quality footballer.

Smeltz and Kwasnik I thought looked like a good striking pair and will be dangerous when they get some decent service.

here's my problem, our midfielders are softc**ks, pulled out of so many 50/50s it was crazy, ferrante and dodd not to bad but bertos kwasnik and daniel all go running in for a tackle then try and poke it with their little toe!! for goodness sakes go in hard so the next time it happens that opponent knows your not scared otherwise they'll play on it the whole game! I don't really think kwasnik done much at all, and I think considering we have bought skilled players, they need to start backing themselves and take their defenders on one on one!!

hopefully see some more improvements in the next game

Nah Lochead wasnt an 8.  He was pretty poor compared to last season.  I agree with your ref rating though.  He was inconsistent and didn't get a hold of the game early on resulting in a bit of a sloppy game.  He let some bad tackles and blatant pushing go unpunished yet penalised some good legitimate tackles.

very true, he was definately more than a 4, but I felt for a fullback he didn't get back fast enough
You know we belong together...

agreed - he did more than Smeltz to get that goal. If a good strike to get a goal gets tons of praise, so should a good set-up, as it's obviously not our forte.

Btw i thought Lochy was poor aswell

Hmmm phoenix...

Lacked in midfield, held our own, but looked like QLD were winning alot more 50/50's.

To early to make any sort of solid predictions quite yet, but i feel, clubs positive, players are better, and if all goes well, and we dont concede in the 90th minute every 2nd match well be fine.
