Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Well, a good result, despite not playing all that well, a sign of a good team!

Reddy 7.5 Perfect timing, very good game. What's with McKain taking his goal kicks?
Troy 5.5 Still giving his winger too much room, hoisted the ball aimlessly a few times when he can do better
Dura 6 Solid.
McKain 6.5 Ditto, an extra half mark for that tackle that earned him the yellow. The ref and lino left their decision too late which led to the tackle.
Lochie 5.5 Did ok, some poor crosses
Manny 6 Strong, kept the pressure on
Lia 6 Very good first half
Timmo 6.5 I thought he was excellent for much of it, surprised to see him subbed off
Caceres 7.5 Created and dangerous
Leo 5.5 Came alive for a while, crosses patchy
Ifill 7.5 scored goals, despite little opportunity
Diego 6 Slotted in well
Costa 5 one nice touch

Ref 8 another good game!!
What do you think??

I thought Breeze pretty much made up for all the bad karma that Hester has dished out to us. CCM might feel aggrieved by some of his decisions (but thought the offside calls were pretty much right).

Would probably bump everyone up  at least 1.

Ratings look pretty good and agree comments, if nit picking I'd bump Muscat up half as thought he was a terrier in the midfield.

With the goal kicks Reddy scuffed one early on and they nearly scored from it and that was last kick he took. Not sure if he has an injury or if he is a bit suspect as seem to recall he scuffed a couple at Adelaide as well?whitby fever2010-01-01 13:51:01

An excellent win, some good attacking work.
Caceres and Ifill were great - Caceres is surely head and shoulders in front of Daniel.

I though Bertos had a very poor game.

Hearfield certainly didnt close down the winger enough, but he is quick and a threat going forward. Id rather have Hearfield than Bertos on that performance.

To be fair CCM were pretty moderate and some better finishing could have left us a bit red-faced.

But at least that gives us the chance to have a couple of strong home performances and get us in a great position.

Reddy 7.5 Commanded his area well. Maybe he's a bit injured, though - can't take the kicks?
Troy 6 Still can't defend properly. Hangs off every time and never puts pressure on the player - too easy to get crosses in. Did some good work going forward again though.
Dura 6.5 Didn't do anything wrong
McKain 6.5 Same as above
Lochie 5.5 Very poor distribution. Decent defending though wasn't tested much.
Manny 6 Didn't look comfortable for mine - didn't do that badly but didn't do great either. Gave away a few silly fouls on the edge of the box.
Lia 7 Really good I thought. Faded away in the 2nd, though. Bit unlucky not to get a goal in the first half. Best game in a while.
Timmo 6.5 Shut down attacks well - didn't get forward that often
Caceres 7.5 Played very well - hopefully he keeps it up
Leo 6 Form still not great but still isn't playing terribly. Made a couple of decent runs but nowhere near the form he was in at the start of the season.
Ifill 8 Scored our 2 goals - what else could he do? Great work and terrific finish for the 2nd.

Make lochhead a 4. Distribution was pathetic. He was caught out of position too often. Had it been a top 4 side in opposition, they would have made it hurt.

Good to see Hearfield having some long range shots. He can hit it cleanly and adds another dimension to the attack. Far more to add than lochhead from fullback position at present.

I'd like to see better use of corners too. A bit wasteful in delivery this time around.

THought caceres and Ifill worked well together. I'd drop Bertos to bench for Greenie next week.

Currently I'd rather see Caceres start over Daniel, I'd put muscat back at right back but I would try Hearfield on the right wing...he's quick got a good shot. Reddy is showing that he's a good keeper

Best quote of the day picked up on the field microphones from Reddy screaming at his wall at the free kick....."don't f**kin move!!!....you don't f**kin move!!!!....keep still"
I think they got the message.

Reddy is a good keeper...sound as a rock. Good signing IMO. lucky for us he left the Roar when he did.

He has been good, but the reason he left the Roar was because he got dropped 3 or 4 months ago because his form was poor. Frank F dropped him and he just could not get back in.
My opinion is that he did deserve to lose his place.

Well, no, actually. He got injured so they had to play McMaster then when he got back from injury Brisbane had a new coach and McMaster held his place so Reddy left.

Farina never dropped him.

Courier Mail 23rd Sept. After a shocking performance by Liam Reddy in their home loss to Perth 4-2 Frank Farina is to axe him in favour of McMaster.
ABC 27th November. After being dropped for McMaster Liam Reddy has asked Brisbane Roar for a release.

Don't think both are incorrect, but the fact is Paston is a much better keeper.

With out starting the Paston/Reddy debate, I think we have been incredibly blessed to have a keeper of quality become available at a time when we need it. The merits can be argued about later but he looks far more assured than Crowther.

Paston started off the season quite poorley but has got better and better as the season went on. I was one of his biggest critics.
Reddy on the other hand started very well and got worse.
However, the two games he has played for the Nix, he seems to be back to his best.

I know it seems to be very in to mock or criticise Locky, but it should be noted that both goals came from a Lochhead-Caceres-Ifil pass sequence. His ball to Caceres prior to Caceres's run then backheel being a particularly good one. So he did have an impact on attack, and somewhat effective. Still, didn't have his best game, but having him 2 points fewer than any other player would be a tad harsh.

He sure as hell makes his fair share of mistakes but that is often because he attempts the constructive, not just play it short and square/back or hoof it up or out. We shouldn't mercilessly crucify such players (not the best for encouraging skill development in younger players).

I know, I know, its serious!

mate, im not knocking paston  just saying that I feel that Reddy is superior plus paston is not getting any younger and he'll have spent a good part of this season out injured

To Valeo, I think you are right.
Met him at Brisbane airport a couple of years ago-- and i thought he was a prick.
He comes from a pretty talented family. His sister played for the Aussie netball team and his father and brother were NRL stars.

Merlin is getting younger.  Come to think of it, the man realised great potential in the past coaching Avalon (ok, poor final season, but it was a glorious run).  Some might say that any man in a dress could've gotten results with Pendragon pulling the strings from the centre, but they're forgetting that the King was a total nobody before Merlin signed him.  Surely Merlin got the experience for those results somewhere.
