A few hints of being able to play and a lot of chasing the ball.

Pasty 5 His worst game for a while, slip ups, uncertainty
North 4.5 Gave too much rroom a couple of times and they scored once
Siggy 5 Struggled with the height of their strikers, looked under pressure
Dura 5.5 A reasonable game but should have scored
Manny 6.5 The only one to play reasonably well and even he wasn't at his best
Leo 4 Never omce took on his man properly
Timmy 4 Always caught too far up field
Elliot 4.5 Caught in possession a couple of times, playing too deep, getting in the defence's road. Lovely shot that hit the bar
Vinnie 5 Trying to make things happen, passing poor
Ifill 4 A couple of good moments, but wrong options, not pressing his man consistently
Greenie 5 Great header that hit the post, little else
Troy 2 showed why North has been playuing right back
Daniel 3 No impact
Big Mac 4 Made a good chance then shot over.
Ricky??? What will he do now???
YF 6 Sounded good until the second goal and understandably ran out of ooomph

What do you think?

3 for Brown. got the yellow he needed to not play next week, and wondering if there will be something more for kicking the goalie in the head
4 North, slipped yet again for the first goal, was slipping last week also, get some longer studs
Rest, fair enough.

Paston - can you not catch the ball ? The amount of times he uses his right fist to punch the ball away is amazing.

Elliott - apart from his shot he was no use at all.

Bertos, Ifill were quiet.

Herbert - well done once again of of being a sack of potatoes sat on the bench.

Pasty 5 Doesn't inspire much confidence.
North 4 Out of position but still playing crap
Dura 5 OK defensively, prob shoulda scored.
Manny 5 Loose passes, out of position.
Leo 4 No spark, never took on his man.
Timmy 5 Same as, can't play him and lia in the same team.
Lia 5 Should never have started for tactical reasons
Elliot 5 I love this guy, but not muh going on for him.
Ifill 5 Nothing going on
Greenie 5 For what he has to work with great. He needs someone up front to play with, no return at 5ft 10 vs 6ft3 CB with a f**king daft long ball game.
Daniel 5 Shoulda been given more time.
Troy 3 Pretty obviously not a defender.
Big Mac. Meh.

Never looked like getting points with the 11 we played, the football(if you could call it that, seemed we tried to play forceback to me), the late timing of the subs and the actual sub choices. Players have no belief in the club seemingly (a bold claim but onthe back of th past 2 home performances), the fans will loose it if this keeps up. There will be respite next week against a poor Newcastle, I only hope we get what we deserve and dont earn the current setup a stay of execution.

And then there wont be a NZ A League team anymore ever. And we'll be a football backwater again, 20 years behind everyone else.

It's an odd thing about supporting - I repeat supporting - your team: you have to take the good with the bad.

Pasty 5 His worst game for a while, slip ups, uncertainty. Very uninspiring cant catch a ball for sh*t
North 4.5 Gave too much rroom a couple of times and they scored once...oh dear
Siggy 5 Struggled with the height of their strikers, looked under pressure...very average
Dura 5.5 A reasonable game but should have scored..average by his standard
Manny 6.5 The only one to play reasonably well and even he wasn't at his best..not great but better than most
Leo 4 Never omce took on his man properly...winger who cant cross a ball
Timmy 4 Always caught too far up field..should have been dropped weeks ago
Elliot 4.5 Caught in possession a couple of times, playing too deep, getting in the defence's road. playing too deepr
Vinnie 5 Trying to make things happen, passing poor.too slow..no vision
Ifill 4 A couple of good moments, but wrong options, not pressing his man consistently still not in form
Greenie 5 Great header that hit the post, little else.runs his bollocks off with no support
Troy 2 showed why North has been playuing right back. no surprise he doesnt command a starting place
Daniel 3 No impact. didnt realy have time to make any impact with the team on the back foot
Big Mac 4 Made a good chance then shot over. did nothing apart from the shot
Ricky??? What will he do now???
YF 6 Sounded good until the second goal and understandably ran out of ooomph

Far out....I might write my own book about why Hearfield should be playing for the Phoenix reserves...prob a few others who could be put in that position....Maybe Promote Gould to head coach too..

Botafogo - Rio de Janeiro and Wellington Phoenix, my two teams til death do us part.

I am afraid that Vince Lia is turning into a michael Ferrante. His passing game has deteriorated to the level where I would not pick him again. Put him back in the Nixettes for a few games. Some of his efforts in the last few game have been shocking.

Why is Elliot playing so deep....the three holding midfielders seem to be getting in each others way

Manny Muscat back into that midfield role.......Lia .Brown, Bertos,North, Ifilli and Elliott are as shape as marbles at the moment......
Maybe Diego will get a start

Our  best two players were Sigmund and Greenacre.
Says it all really, cos Im afraid the rest of them were far worse.
Even Paston was less than we would expect.

"He's world-class and I don't use that lightly," Brown said of Elliott.

after that comment I'll give Brown a 1 instead of his usual 2.

Hearfield was so much to blame for that second goal. Took him an age to turn around, by that time the Mariners were way down the other end. I honestly think if we had kept North on, then that goal wouldn't have occurred.

The whole team should be sent home without pay for the week.

Then a new system implemented;

60% wage paid on loss

90% wage paid on draw

150% wage paid on win

I agree,  I get so angry that these players take home such good pay and do their jobs so poorly.  I have said time and again,  if my staff worked like the Phoenix have been playing they would get the sack,  and my staff are expected to and do a good job 95% of the time,  whereas the Nix are lucky to EARN their pay 50% of the time.  They only need to pull finger for 90 minutes a week.

At least with Brown unavailable for the next game Ricki will have to change it up. It's unlikely he'd just put Daniel into the starting team with Bertos and Ifill, perhaps he'll put Ward back in the squad. Or maybe (just maybe) he'll play 2 strikers and 4 midfielders for a change.

Ricki trying to put out an attacking creative side and select Ward? You're having a laugh.

We just need 11 Manny Muscats. Easily our best player last night.

I predict 3-4-3.  It will be catastrophic.

We just need a left back. Muscat needs to be in midfield.

Muscat was a revelation last year when he played defensive midfield.

Maybe we could play him in front of the back four, with Elliott a bit further forward.

Trouble is, we dont have any bloody fullbacks in the squad.

The team should look something like this:

Paston

Sigmund North Durante  NewSigning
Bertos Muscat Elliott/Ward Ifill
Greenacre Pavlovic

That right hand side is so out of form its not funny, Sigmund and Bertos need to go back to the drawing board while Musa and Ifill play side with Muscat in RB and Daniel LM.

Sigmund isn't a left back! he's handy up the front, but he can never get back in time, not fast enough. He's so much better as a central defender.
