I've even bored myself with all the talk of Payne and handball, so want to talk about something different.

I was reading that Dura's about to get married, and the stag-do ( to be arranged by Paul ifill) was going to be in Las Vegas. And this  got me to thinking, how much do these fellas get paid if they can jet off to Vegas  for a stag-do?. I hadn't really considered it before. Does anybody have any ideas. For example what would Mulligan get paid each week, for not even kicking a ball- does he have to pull a shift of two at Micky D's to get by? What would the Brosque or Aloisi pick up each week? Clearly Sydney are not funding pay packets on the back of huge gate sales.

Salary cap is $2.1m Aus.  League minimum is around $50k Aus.  Apparently we don't use marquee or youth marquee this season.  You can make some assumptions.

Aloisi as a marquee is outside the cap and supposedly on $1.4m Aus over two years.

Brosque<Kissel- Kissel is apparently the highest paid Sydney player after Loloisi- at $250k-300k ish- so Brosque is on less than that.

Mulligan is probably on AUS$100k.

Aloisi was the highest paid sportsmen in the football codes in OZ when he signed that wasn't he?

So marquee is always exempt. I had to look- up the meaning of marquee when I first started watching A-league as I didn't really know what it meant

And we haven't got a marquee?

Na. Elrich was in season one, and it McKain was our marquee in season two, but likely moved under the cap this season. To be a marquee you have to satisfy a few criteria- ie international/former international (at a decent level), or be a big enough crowd puller.

I say decent level, as the likes of former-Socceroo Topor-Stanley would not qualify to be a marquee.

Moose-cat for Malta surely counts.

What's quite interesting is that some players who play regularly are on quite a lot less than you'd think, while some who don't get more.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I would assume that Mulligan and Diego earn more than Muscat, Lia and probably Brown.

Yeah, something interesting to look at would be salary/games played. The likes of Manny/Troy- unlikely to be on a lot, whereas Ferrante would likely be on decent money (depending on when he last signed a contract?).

Troy on sod all by the looks of his car. Early 90's Diahatsu Charade. Saw him and Timmy "cruising" in town the other day
Average salary of 90K based on 2.1 mill over 23 players. BUT with no marquees in the 23 we actually suffer a bit. If we had a Marquee and youth Marquee we'd only have 21 under the cap which is 100k average. Assume the likes of McKain, Dura, Reddy, Greeny, Ifil and Brown are on more and Ferrante/Mulli/Crowther etc are on a bit less. Decent living though as most expences will be "taken care of".

Its no longer a problem.

I think Ferrante and Mulli are probably quite well paid.  Reddy as injury cover probably isn't in the cap.

Makes you wonder what kind of paycuts the likes of Ifill and Greenie take to come and play in NZ? Or do they? Hard to know what kind of pay packets UK players in lower divisions pick up.

The Football Manager game is pretty accurate for UK salaries.  Here is just a guess.

If Mulli and ferrante are paid well...and are off contract. Means we could hopefully pick up some decent signings during the off season

Allegedly

If you look at some other teams in the A-League they stack their team with decent youngsters, some had 5+ u21 players rather than the minimum 3 and pay them the minimum wage leaving a lot of space in the cap for better players, throw in the marquee and youth marquee and you free up a lot of cap space. Only a risk if you get injuries to you star players and have to rely on your youngsters to often.

Excellent point, basically what happened to Brisbane and CCM to a lesser extent.

Also a risk if your big names better players are overseas guys and unproven in this league and turn out to be donkeys eg Owusu

I used to live in Southampton, and went to school with Adam Lallana, southampton attacking midfielder. Saints are in league two (lower league), and he gets about 4000pound a week....so thts...about $8,300...i think.... depends what exchange rate atm is m8

Didn't Ifil play championship level..he prob got a bit more then, in terms of weekly wages.
