I feel like using a lot of capital letters, but I'd better not. Deserved to win , didn't score the goals. Could have had a field day.

Moss 6 Not much to do.
Boxall 6 Useful, didn't get forward as far as sometimes
Siggy 7 Last man standing a few times, good cover
Dura 6.5 A good game
Brindell-South 6 Was targeted but did quite well with the aerial stuff.
Lia 6 Did a good job shielding the defence and collecting the ball from them
Ridenton 5 Should have scored, a bit slow deciding what to do at times, got crowded
Carlos 5 Pretty crap for a lot of it, but did give a couple of great passes that should have led to goals.
Kenny 7 Two great headers, one goal, one well saved. Otherwise a bit headless
Steiny 4.5 Prob not his fault, but not really in the game, two headers over the top.
Krishna 6 Caused them quite a few problems, a shame he hit the post instead of the net. Little connection between him and Stein though.
Timmins 6 Took a while to settle in, More of a good move from Gallas than it being his fault for the goal. Looks useful.
Boyd 6 Made an impact, lovely cross for the goal.
Hicks (Hickey) 5 Ran hard, gave the ball away a number of times

Frustrating.

Your opinion?

Krishna looked lively but I felt we looked so much more dangerous with Boyd on the park. Was impressed by what I saw from Timmins, have no issues with him being our starting LB for the rest of the season.

Stein, Krishna and a bit cruelly Ridenton all missed good chances to win us the game.

Deserved to win, I don't think so. Draw was a fair result.

Timmins and Krishna deserve to start again.

Would not 7 to Kenny for abusing one of his own players. He is a nutter.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

I thought Siggy was caught out of position on numerous occasions. Kenny a 7? One header he should have buried but hits it right at the keeper. Runs around a lot.

I thought Boxall was one of our better players last night. Would bump him up to a 7. He won a lot in the air and came across to cover the CBs a couple of times making some really crucial interventions.

Krishna had a number of very good chances and IMO should have scored at least two of them. Has shown he has some pace but does he have the composure to progress further at this level? Not so sure?

Kenny is certainly "passionate" but would rather see that passion directed at him staying on his feet and not abusing his own players / referees.

Vinnie had a good match yesterday. cleaned up a lot in front of the back four, played a lovely through ball for Krishna, who should have finished it, early on and did not give the ball away much.  Always will be tough day in Central midfield against Perth  with the Likes of Burns and Griffiths , particularly with inexperienced players around him.

Agreed he deserved that. Also thought Timmins was good value. Defensively he looks to be one of if not the best LB that I've seen at the Nix. Looked very unsure when going forward but if he gets time to gel with the squad and good coaching from Ernie (that's a given I think) then he looks to be a very good prospect indeed.

Very well deserved, he had Sidnei in his back pocket all day.

I wouldn't describe them as great. They should both have been scored imo, you won't get easier chances off the head. Any controlled direction on them at all scores.

I think the most positive aspect of the game is the potential of the strikers with pace. Both Krishna and Boyd created problems. Neither is the finished article yet. I have high hopes for Boyd though, if he can get the finishing sorted he could become an extremely good player.

Midfield and slow starts are still the main issue. Need to get those sorted. I thought Glory were not really that good at all, very disappointed with the result.

Just saw Kenny on willis street before strolling around. Much less scary than on the pitch.

Lia, as always, is pretty solid against sides that do not transition in numbers quickly.

By the same measure, I think I'd like to see more of Timmins before I rate him.  He didn't get too much defensive work, no great Perth intent or pace running at him that I can recall?  And he was reluctant to run the line overlapping from FB, so I am not convinced he is confident about his pace and/or cross.  May have enough of it, but not sure.  Early days, but looked potentially a useful find, possibly better than that.

Kenny: always worth watching the human pinball run around and fall down.  Adds character and energy every single game.  And adds value. But an international quality footballer?  Agree with JV on that one.  But he'd still be in my starting team.

Krishna; still all pace and hasn't shown us anything much more yet, but he was sure trying hard and is a big step ahead of Totori.  Does seem significantly quicker than Boyd/Brockie, so offers something we've not got enough off, but not sure he is better than Boyd overall now, nor that he has more potential.  Worth a look at this week, esp after the international during the week.  And if he can tidy his touch up a bit ... that pace is sure worth having.

Carlos:  I think we played 2/3rds or more of that game without our FBs getting forward much at all.  So we were pretty narrow and Perth could concentrate their defense around Carlos.  He was on a frustrated hiding to nothing.  We are playing a 4-3-1-2 right?  For all I agree Lia had a good game, he and Kenny do not seem to be where Carlos needs them to shift the ball away from congestion.  Ridenton is part of that also and I think a big part of what Riera offered was that he was always there as an outlet for Carlos, but also had the nous and wheels to cover defensively.  It was only in the last 20mins or so that we saw Timmins starting to get forward and attack Perth, so we started stretching their defense wider and it all relatively opened up.  But Carlos was gone by then.  Plus Perth's injury subs and defensive/fast countering tactics helped us dominate.  You just know Ernie asked the FBs to get forward more at half time, but there's maybe a few more adjustments they need to work on for that?  Dunno, just how I saw it.

A bunch of kids in key places and new or being looked at players in others, yet we still should/could have beaten Perth comfortably. If we'd scored first and we might have smashed them.

Enjoyed that last 15 mins or so, even if we were not particularlly clinical..  The rest had no fluency whatsoever.

Watching the TV it looked like Dura made a comment to him and he let fly with all the words you could imagine.

I feel when Kenny loses the ball, he does work hard to regain possession, but usually this means knocking over whoever got the ball from him, or chopping them down, resulting in a free kick. It is frustrating. He did, as usual, do some good stuff, but a single goal doesn't automatically qualify someone for a super performance throughout the game.

Agree that the guys could have had a field day with scoring out there, missed some good chances, but then even on games where we've thumped teams, we've also missed good chances. If only the goals were a metre wider, we would have been a few more ahead.

Midfield was struggling, but that's no surprise really for anyone is it, with the loss of Riera, and Muscat out suspended. Lia looked like he was trying to play that forward midfield role a few of times before he remembered he was filling in as a DM for this game.

Timmins did well, but you could tell he's probably more used to playing in the centre of defense. Was asked to step up, and just did what he was asked to do, nothing spectacular.

Krishna looked promising, still a bit lightweight and was muscled off the ball a bit, but then that happened to Rojas lots too. Maybe he needs to learn to draw fouls a bit more like Rojas did. Not trying to compare the two as to potential, just the treatment they got. A few good chances on goal that shouldn't be picked on, as even our top goal scorers have missed similar, or even stuffed them up even worse than he did.

People keep giving our young lads flack for being inexperienced, but with the lack of a youth team for them to get game time, the ONLY way they're going to get experience in this team, is by playing in the senior team. So we need to keep getting them on the pitch, as that's the only way they're going to get up to the standard that's needed. Yes that will mean mistakes, and poor showings, but with a good coach, and a good team around them, they will get better. Unfortunately we need them to be better NOW, but that just aint going to happen overnight.

I don't actually think that Krishna is that quick, definitely not quick enough to get ahead of technically better players. A couple of good passes and well timed runs and he managed to get behind the defence, but a lot of players could do that (especially going up against CB come FB Clisby).

Boyd did a much better job, was able to create chances for others and himself (nice bit of skill to create a bit of space for his shot that Ridenton should've buried the parry).

I watched this closely- because he did it a lot earlier in the season and was yelling NO FOUL KENNY at the screen when he chased back, and often he put really good pressure on that resulted in us getting the ball back, and iirc didn't pick up a card?

I am disappointed every time he scores he runs to the opposite side of the field from the fever zone to the lonely folk where LG sits. Is he shy?

I love him too...in a manly way.
He runs around like a demented fox terrier with a bust GPS. I just like his fiesty. never say die attitude and the way he chases everything at 100 mph right up until the final whistle. I have no problem with him showing his emotions....he's not a dirty player or anything......but he is a little bat-shit crazy...those eyes would give children nightmares!!!!!(plus he scores some lovely goals)

He's just trying to make up for Nixie and the ZM prizes not going over to see LG :)

I like Kenny.

I thought Boyd was doing very well, adding most the energy and passion in the last 20 minutes. Inspired the rest of the team to try harder.

Timmins looked lost when going forward, better at the end, and did pinpoint cross we don't see very often. He'll be much better next game after his first training sessions with the whole team.

Carlos annoyed me, to often on his butt complaining about fouls. He has to learn pass quicker.

I love Kenny.

Completely recognize his faults and the complaints others might have about him, but he's been entertaining the hell out of me lately, and scoring goals, so he's good in my book.

Tough not to get the call up against Paraguay for BS reasons, he's good enough to get into that squad, given what Costa Rica has to work with.

Most CONCACAF teams have a wide range of talent in their squads, from the EPL down to leagues like the MLS/A-League, just not a huge pool for them to draw from, relatively speaking (outside of the US and Mexico, of course). Kenny would absolutely not look out of place in that Costa Rican group.

Kenny reminds me of a goalscoring "Sean Wright-Phillips". Runs around like a headless chicken but unlike SWP Kenny actually scores goals!

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!
