Considering our defensive frailties at the moment. Might it not be too bad an idea to try Brownlie in a CD position.

I've seen strikers moved back and CD's move forward - Dion dublin being one example. This way, brownlie keeps up his match fitness, gets a game & a chance to score when we win corners and it might just work with his jumping ability at the back??

Radical idea I know but what have we got to lose?

We have nothing to lose true but the only thing we have to win is the wooden spoon next week against perth.

This is a season of learning, How are we going to find out if we dont try it? The team have already proved they can do the job to the Australian teams. Who cares if we wooden spoon this season? Ok we all hoped for a midtable spot but this team doesn't give up, they keep on trying despite the results. I am proud of them.

My sentiments exactly, lonegunmen - or should that be lone-machinegun-men, since you're firing off at a great clip tonight.

Actually talk of a replacement in the defence reminds me that my Great Aunt Bessie could slot into the back four quite nicely. She's not especially fast because of her arthritis and her little incontinence problem, but she is a stern disciplinarian and I'm sure she could whip those young puppies into shape. She was in the London blitz so a few high balls and crosses aren't going to bother her either. And she makes nice scones for halftime.

Eh not this again. No point in trying to play players completely out of position for no reason other than 'to try something different'.

Sorry dude but this is a sh*te idea.

Dion Dublin - can move between the two positions, Perhaps Brownlie can.

In honour of Marius' recent directive, I'm going to leave this alone, but will state that it seems a little brave.

Centre back is one of the most difficult positions to play, so I really can't see how this would work.

Overall, it's not that unusual to push centre backs forward even in course of a game when chasing a goal - this usually means that you pump balls forward and use the big men to win headers and hopefully nick one. Doing it the other way around is a lot riskier - nothing really to lose throwing a big defender forward when chasing a game, but it's much more dangerous to do it the other way around when mistakes can mean goals for the opposition. I can't think of one centre forward who was moved into a backline and did an even quarter-decent job (coining a new expression there...).

Matt Ellliot, Steve Walsh, Ewen Roberts Dion Dublin...........

all converted fullbacks who played at the top level

Shouldn't diss  Lonegumen's suggestion so easily, we haven't got anything to lose, looking at last nights performance.

I'd seriously consider putting Aloisi in at right back, he'd be best bet to shore up the gaping hole we have, and we have more than enough cover for midfield.

Yeah all ex forwards who converted to centre backs successfully.

I could think of a load more if I had the time.

I think long term we should revert to Cleb at centre back and address the right back problem first (as that seems to be the no1 problem).

Bob hazell was another succesful player switching between the two positions. Thank you Slackers 63, you can see outside the square.

What I meant was - Matt Elliott a good centre-back? I was rolling with laughter so much that I thought you were pulling my leg. How that guy played international football I'll never know...

Hahahaha

He did alright for 3 seasons in the Premier though. I think he won Leicester's player of the year 2 years on the run.

O'Neil is no fool to be fair

Didn't Scotland play him up front for a bit because Big Dunc was boycotting them?

Nearly as funny as the over rated ego inflated Wynning Rufer being made Oceania player of the century.  Now that is funny!

Not sure, the Scottish lads will probably know. I remember him playing against Croatia a few years back, he was awful. Had the first touch of a brick wall, and seemingly commited 15-20 fouls on his own.

Give George a run at centre back imo. We may as well try something.

Bob Hazell is still a legend in our eyes! What are his chances of coming out of retirement for the Nix?  I saw a recent interview with him the other week.

Better still, play Paston alongside him. Costa can go right back, and my grandma left back, and all our defensive woes will be solved.

No one would get past him that's for sure.

I think George Berry had a stint at converting for a few games as well?

Super Ricky was in the same squad as Hazel and Berry, maybe he could get them out of retirement?

dodd is coming back, clebo should be fit for Qland - as back up

no need to play yet another player out of position (a la our right back experiments with O'dor and Clebo)

don't panic Captain Mainwearing

When we are down 4-1 what have we got to lose? Not just replacing guys at the back but putting some of the youngsters on upfront...instead of bringing 'Coveny' off the bench. We need to get some young blood into the team.
