Sheesh, we had a lot of ball but didn't know what to do with it.
No Smith, no idea, anyway...

Warner 5 Slow to get off line again, palmed ball out for a tap in, beaten but saved by Lochie on the line
Manny 7 Shows everyone else how to play with courage
Siggy 6 Good effort
Dura 5.5 Was given the run around a bit
Lochie 6 Defended well, great goal line save, poor crosses
Leo 4 Ineffectual, poor crosses
Lia 6 Tried hard
Timmy 4 Couldn't take his chances, got in Greenie's road
Daniel 5.5 A few creative moments, looked like he deserved a pen to me
Greenie 5.5 Worked hard but few chances, Brown mucked up his best one
Dani 5.5 Closed down fairly quickly, faded
Pav 5 Ran around, a few good passes
Wardy 5.5 Useful
Downey 3 Awful passing

What does everyone think??
ps I won't be doing the ratings for next couple of games, so feel free to jump in

lochhead not crossing well.

made some good space, but often crossed too early or too poorly.

Saved a goal, but i thought he also should have stopped their second, he was "marking" golec.

Agree except for -

-Warner up to 6, he did make a few good saves

-Lochead down to 5, his ball watching cost us the second goal - defenders are supposed to follow the ball in with the strikers to stop the rebound tap ins.

-Leo up to 6, I though he tried to create quite a lot and his work rate was high

-Timmy.....you've been kind to him, he is well either crook or out of form. Watch him in the lead up to the first goal, he just stopped tracking

- Daniel up to 6, same reasonss as Bertos.

-Herbert - 4.
Dragged off the only players able to possibly change the game with a bit of skill or guile.
Kept woefully out of form Brown on....shouldn't have been on the plane
Left Smith at home.
Rates Downey who is suposed to have pace but couldn't get around Adelaides cramped up left fullback.

I haven't missed a game since day 1 but am losing interest in watching poor selections and the same away from home tactics week in week out. Too cautious makes it easy for the opposition to read us like a book. The away game locations aren't the problem, it's the tactics.

Bertos down to 2.5 - 3 and I am being generous.

Did nothing with the ball except lose it, corners, freekicks and crosses go nowhere.

Needs dropping

Daniel and Sanchez up to 6

I have not really been into the anti Brown camp but after last nights game.....first 5 minutes gave away possesion in a dangerous position and didn't chase back, then got in Sanchez,z way in the box when Sanchez was about to shoot, then clattered someone in a meat head tackle. rest of the game was the same....swanning around high up the field, poor skills and low work rate, missed a sitter header etc etc

Lia did some nice passing, Sanchez and Daniel had their moments....Greenacre gets more invisible each week(needs a rest) Warner made a couple of good saves but could have done better with the Djite goal...near post goal. Not sure about Downey yet...he looks enthusiastic but you wonder about his so called speed if he can't go around a slow defender who has cramp.

Couldn't figure out why our defense looked so ropey at times when we had 2 DM's supposedly covering the back 4

SigmUnd and Muscat were great.
Durante mostly good but was caught ballwatching to let Djite in. (good goal though)
Lia did his job well for the most part.
Daniel was creative and put some good balls in. I thought he did really well, but we needed someone up there to do something with his crosses.
Greenacre was good when he managed to get a touch in his own half.
Sanchez needed more support.

The rest of them (including the subs) - well blow me down.

Bertos should not be out there on that form.

Siggy and Manny were the standouts for me. Would have loved to have seen Lia kept at RB and Manny moved into midfield instead of Brown.

Brown 2
Bertos 4
Ricki 2
Daniel 6

Daniel created our worthwhile opportunities, what did bertos do to deserve to stay on?
I assume Sanchez is still under an injury cloud so that was probably sensible.
But Brown and Lia were hopeless positionally
Even if Smith isn't going to have his contract renewed, who cares? Just use him, go for the f**king win you goddamn centre back. And then he takes Daniel off. And enough with Warner already, he didn't make nice saves, Lochead and Durante saved his ass and it was a crap save from the free kick. And he was well beaten at his near post.
Best thing to come out of this game is 5 yellows for Brown. Unless the suspension he already served wiped 2. That would suck.

Agreed.
Brown, Alley, Kneecaps.

no need to get violent! He's just playing badly, he's a good club player and isn't trying to eff up...it's a form slump that's lasting a long time.

The main issue is with RH IMHO. We've become VERY predictable. All teams know we'll huff and puff a bit, then revert to type, then they score a goal and we never come back. It's nothing to do with being away from home, it's more to do with a coach who thinks we have to be "cautious" away from NZ. Bollocks!

Totally agree. RH only went over looking for a point with the selections he made, and he got what that deserves. A 2-0 loss against a team that aren't that good.

Manny standout for me despite appearing to try and get himself sent off

Thought Lochy and our supposed stronger defensive midfield (how did that work out?) held us back as they couldn't play the game with Daniel and Sanzhez, looked often slow on the ball and limited in their options.

We went back to playing crosses in the air to the keeper, over the goal (take a bow Lochy and Downey) and to the first defender, while our strikers were largely static in the box, so they could get much power on even when they did get to the ball.

Brown has got the yips. He's lost his once golden shooting touch in the last 3 games. Still getting into good positions, but has been putting them just wide or over, or tantalisingly last night- into the post.

Isn't this the second time he's been beaten at the near post?

Siggy, his worse performance in a Phoenix shirt.
Bertos, how does he get in the starting lineup, a bench player at best on current form.

I wonder how Paston is doing at training?

Smith was dropped because he was late to training
Sanchez was taken off early because he's obviously still struggling with injury

Don't know what you're on about regarding siggy nightz - hes one of the only players that did any good out therevaleo2012-01-01 15:42:24

Getting real frustrated with Bertos. doesn't do anything bar do a very slow crossover and then lose the ball.

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

I have to agree with Nightz that Siggy was disappointing. Again on a free kick, someone slips through while our defenders stand their watching. I'm not a fan of his but he has been better the last month so I've kept my mouth shut on him. This game he was a passenger.

Where did you get the skinny on Smith?

You have to suspect the Leo is still there because of stats (balls into the box)
