Less for Ifill, didn't make a huge impact to get an 8. 7.
Daniel - 8

I would agree, but the fact that we can say that getting a goal from the bench isn't a huge impact by his standards says a lot about the player. Stoked to have him back.

Just first game back I thought - probably not wanting to overdo it - plenty of power in the strike to score the goal though.

Siggy 8.5 for me. Was immense.

Sanchez, Daniel, Ifill, Manny, Durante - All pretty good games

Our midfield is too empty though, Brown isnt doing anything in there, so if Lia is out of position, the opposition have a free pass through the middle.

Also feel Leo is still not attacking enough

After the second goal, I was starting to think it might be worth giving Paston a go against Perth.
Warner did have a better day than one other Liverpool goalie today, however. (How can a team be all over another team and lose 0-3 ????)

Tim Brown - 0 He was the worst player on the park and shoould have been subed off instead of Daniel

I wouldnt be giving Leo anymore than a 3 and he should be watching Sundays game in the feverzone were he would be more effective.

These are grandstand ratings, so there must be things that I simply didn't notice.

Warner - a fairly good game. His distribution was pretty good, he made a couple of nice saves, and the defence seemed confident in him. Pity they didn't return the favour! Not at fault for either goal. 7/10
Lochhead - linked up well with Daniel and made some good runs. The solid squad player we know he is. 6.5/10
Durante - wasn't that impressive. I think he made a couple of dodgy clearances and looked shaky at times. 6/10
SigmUnd - turned a very ordinary performance into a sound one through sheer force of will. Aside from the goal, he was often seen bursting forward in open play. He made some mistakes with his defending (again, the clearances weren't always assured) but didn't let it get to him. 7.5/10
Muscat - all-action, but occasionally making bad decisions. Did more than Lochhead but didn't do it as well, and for that reason, another 6.5/10
Lia - looked like he was aiming for a red card towards the end of the first half. For some reason, he was going forward and leaving Brown in the holding role. Lia showed us why Timmy is our best goal threat from midfield by wasting chances. Not his best work. 5.5/10
Brown - put in a decent shift. When Brown went forward, the Nix looked dangerous, and he won a penalty with his positional sense. 6.5/10
Bertos - did most of his work around the corner flag. Slow to make decisions, as per usual. 6/10
Daniel - had a pretty good day at the office. Still lacks the stamina to be a proper A-League player, but he remains important in a squad without much creativitiy. 7.5/10
Sanchez - I don't think that he's a forward. All too often, he eased off the pressure on Reddy's shaky defence, when a more predatory player would have run in and scored. Still a good player, and had a fairly good game regardless. 8/10
Greenacre - not his best work. He applied himself, but his touch was off and today's system didn't suit him. 6/10

Pav - He's not a winger. Brick bat to RH for playing the lad out wide. 5.5/10
Ifill - Seemed to enjoy the freedom just to walk around the pitch, while still making himself very useful. A very sweetly taken goal to cap off an excellent cameo. 7.5/10
Smith - I didn't take that much note of him, but he was playing towards me from holding midfield. I think there was a mistake in there, but it didn't cost the team. 6/10

Herbert - really, this result was more about Sydney playing badly than the Phoenix playing particularly well. (The Sky Blues scored twice from three shots on target.) While Ricki is working with limited squad resources, some of his tactical decisions today (the Lia-Brown stuff & Pav out wide, as mentioned) were baffling. 6.5/10Stripes2012-01-04 20:24:33

The way I saw it (once!), Warner was let down by his defenders and had the whole goal to protect. The finish was humiliating for him, but I think it's very harsh to call it a regulation stop.

I don't have another opinion until I see it on slow motion.

SigmUnd sublime. 9
Durante did next to nowt wrong. 8
Muscat top drawer. 7.5
Warner excellent apart from the second goal.8
Sanchez - creative and a great finish for our second goal 8
Daniel - quite a bit didnt come off today, but he makes things happen and creates chances. 7.5
Lia - not too good
Brown - worse
Lochhead - worst Ive seen him for a long time. I recknon he could have prevented the second goal but hesitated. 5
Bertos - same old same old, but slightly better than he has been 6.5
Greenacre - much the same as usual.  Struggles to get hold of the ball outside of his own half. Doesnt do much wrong when he gets the ball, but he rarely seems to have it. 5.5
Smith looked good
Ifill - excellent when given the ball
Pav - what the bloody hell was he doing out on the right wing? If we are going to have him and Ifill, then play them a lot closer together.

He didn't get down fast enough and it went under him - was a regulation stop for a keeper at this level. Clearly, in the end, at fault for the goal. Of course it was the midfields fault for letting them waltz through like that in the first place..

Yep should have been an easy save for Warner, from when he has been playing, although the buildup to the goals have obviously not been his fault, I have thought he has been very slow and sluggish to move. He is decent in the air however. I would still like to see Paston back between the sticks personally.

Anyone that gives Brown and Bertos more than a four needs to have their head checked. Bertos does the same thing over and over again - run forward, turn back - repeat. His finishing is piss poor too. Brown gave away the ball so many times today it was disgusting, I saw him on more than one occassion just watch a Sydney midfielder waltz past his him. Herbert really needs to get over this sentimentality syndrome he has for these players.

Agree with comments on Bertos and Brown. The latter in particular has been poor for several weeks now.

Good game wasn't it?

I thought the back four were brilliant. Warner and Lia both made one poor mistake each though. If we had lost 2-0 due to those mistakes I think we would be calling for both of them to be dropped. But they were at least partially redeemed by some better patches of play through the rest of the match.

Bertos is still clearly not at his best, and (despite the SigmUnd corner) on current form shouldn't be taking our set pieces. I really wish he would keep running with the ball too, instead of stopping each time a defender comes too close. But at least he still does the basics well - getting into good places and laying off nicely. Sanchez and Daniel both had great first halves, but Dani in particular faded badly in the second. Dani's goal showcased the creative talents of both. Brown did nothing in midfield, and also seems to have lost something of his goal-scoring knack. I like Smith, but he didn't really have much chance to do much.

I think Greenacre is doing a great job at the moment, but it is not as a striker. Instead he is running a lot, closing down the opposition and laying off the ball to the midfield. Kinda like a frontline Muscat. Tactically I think it is working really, really well - but it does mean we should stop with the frickin' crosses, cause there won't be anyone to knock them in. So, for me:

Warner 5.5
Lochie 7
SigmUnd 8
Durante 7
Muscat 7
Lia 5.5
Brown 4.5
Sanchez 6.75 (8 in the first half, 5.5 in the second)
Daniel 6.5 (7 in the first half, 6 in the second)
Bertos 6
Greenacre 6.5

(Ifill 7)

Sanchez was cramping second half which slowed him down.
Agree on Greenacre comments. I was not surprised he got subbed off. He seems to have run out of gas.....which is not surprising considering his work load(and age). We really need someone with more speed up front. Greenie does not have that burst of speed anymore to get himself into scoring positions....especially when we counter attack at pace. He's OK when he can stand around in the box and lay the ball off but he is often absent when wide players make a break and look centrally for some one to hit.
I don't understand why Pav was played out on the wing. I would love to seem him start centrally against Perth to see how he goes.

I would have said: because Ifill was taking it easy and couldn't run so he had to play up front, and Pav was the only option for wing once the benches were cleared.

This. From where I was watching when Pav came on it seemed he was originally up front, and Ifill out wide. But after about 5 minutes of Ifill not tracking back and Manny yelling for help Ricki switched them round. Whilst Ifill was all class, he is not very fit at present.

YES!!!
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

As I said unfunnily at the time Ifill was walking around like the terminator, (should have said Robocop), due to his obvious nad-impairment.
