Hmmm, I haven't seen the game on TV so these may be a bit out from just the live viewing.

Warner 4.5 Not off his line quick enough for the goal and bloody nearly gifted another
Manny 7 Plays like a leader. Always looks to make a difference
Siggy 7.5 Top form
Dura 6.5 Sound as always
Lochie 6 Made a few runs but often the pass didn't find him
Leo 5 Was shut down quickly and didn't have the nerve to take them on
Smith 5 Anonymous
Ward 5 Anonymous
Brown 5 Anonymous
Vinny 6 Won plenty of ball, passing not so good
Greenie 6 Was tightly marked but received the ball well under pressure

Ifill 7.5 At last, some creativity, great cross for the goal
Daniel No impact
Griffiths No impact

What do you think??

Bertos is so low on confidence!!, he still has pace, just watch him run without the ball.
When he gets the ball he sprints then he slows and then eventually turns his back and stops when the defender reaches him, it is so sad to see............

Would put leo down to a 3.5, how he stayed on I have no idea, Smith and Ward were better. Brown 4 - anonymous and dumb. Thought lochhead did alright, and I'm a big critic of his. Maybe Durante up a little bit too.

you guys give leo too much of a hard time, ye he is nowhere near what he used to do, but still in last couple games ive seen glimses of what he can do and has ran at players, sure not all the time but he does do it.   also brown wasnt anonymous last night i seen lots of him with the ball, also think greenie deserves a lower rating, he should have put 1 if not both his chances away. but he wasnt ready for the ball, rule number one of a poacher is always be ready for the ball

Agree re Greenacre... should have scored. As always ran hard though. Also thought Brown was a bit more prominent than usual but didnt offer much really.

Can't agree with you about Leo tho. That was the worst game I've seen him play I think.

I will probably get flamed for this, but I'd rate Greenacre last night a 4 at best.

I know everyone here loves his work ethic, and he does a lot of running, granted.

But every time I see him running at pace towards his own goal, to get a pass just to play the ball backwards, I wonder what goes through his head.
To be clear, I think he needs to be looking to turn with the ball, not always pass it back 20 metres.

And he should have buried at least one of his chances last night.Ard Righ2011-11-20 18:26:41

2 somewhat tough chances should equal 1 goal for a goalpoacher. He did his best trying to hold the ball up but in a virtual 4-5-1 he is no target man. Ifill did a lot better at the role when he came on, we instantly looked more attacking

Agree about Greenie...he has a huge heart but you do wonder if playing a full 90 mins of everygame is starting to catch up with him a bit. He will be 34 next month. I am sure the plan this year was for him to ease his way into the player/assistant coach role not to play 90 minutes each week. He just looks to have lost his zip a bit. Missing sitters looks bad but a poacher like him should nail those chances. Hopefully with Pav available next week he should be able to take over the load a bit.

It is blatantly obvious though that Greenie's technique is streets ahead. Saw him hold the ball last night with three players on him, turn on a pin in three directions and put a   pass to a player through a defenders legs.

what we miss is technically gifted players, and a big goal scoring bastard of a forward

That sounds very like the instance that impressed me at the time, although i remember him winning a throw rather than getting the pass away. It said everything for me about Greenacre's strength and determination. When he went down injured for a minute or so in the 2nd half I had an awful sinking feeling.

It took a long time for me appreciate Greenie but now - especially in our current circumstances - I am a big fan. For me, week in, week out, he is one of the 2 or 3 most consistent and reliable performers in the team.

I seem to recall before we got Greenacre we had a man named Smeltz who subscribed to the Tim Brown school of play. Totally anonymous for 95% of the game but would pop up and score goals.  Greenacre's control and distribution has come a long way since he first arrived, it's a shame he doesn't have anyone to play off of.

Also when you're the highest man up the pitch, it's a bit hard to pass the ball anywhere but backwards.

Totally agree....Greenie has great technique. With Muscat, Durante and Ifill he is in the group of our best players. If he had the service he would have got bucket loads of goals for us. If everyone in the team worked as hard as Greenie we would not be sitting near the bottom of the table

Even without the goals his role is very important in being able to hold the ball up, hold possession for us and start a move.

When we get Greenie, Sanchez, Daniel, Lochie and perhaps Ward too we have a several players with the technical ability to play a passing game.

Smeltz is better than Brown in that his technique is better, he can beat a player to make a shot and his distribution is better. Though sometimes he has the occasional elephantine touch.

Brown's positioning and the accuracy of his finishing are usually great. He also usually shoots low.martinb2011-11-21 13:42:28
