Not sure I agree it was average..it was a cobbled together Phoenix missing 7? likely first teamers against wests who are top? of the central league and play wek in week out.  It was a good hit out and whilst Astro isnt what might have been expexcted I actually wonde what role he was expected to play.  if it was targetman then the balsl coming thru were not suited to that role. Once again we over passed sideways and back and then had Costa darting thru.  he did his job okay..and he scored.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

The match reports (last weeks (accepting he had just got off a plane) and tonights) don't exactly fill you with confidence that Astro is the answer to our 2nd striker prayers - class will show through no matter what role he was expected to play.

If the collective wisdom of the coaches is along those lines I hope they make the call sooner rather than later and move on to the fall back plan.

I hope this Dutchman is a sure thing.

The season's first game is only 8 weeks away.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

...as he is not expected in Wellington for three weeks (assume his contract with Tranmere is until June 30th) I'd call it unlikely.

I haven't made training this week but suspect it will look like last weeks side:

Crowther
Lia - Dura - McKain - Ian Hogg
Party all the time - Daniel - ickle Mikey Eager - Marco Rojas
Coasta - Astroclaus

Maybe a start for Villazon or Tim Myers.  A chance Diego may take some part seeing as he played some part in training last Friday.

Why is Mickey Eager playing these games?  Do we currently have no midfielders?  Is he a realistic option for signing on (with the club, not the dole)?  Does he has some "photos" of Terry?  Did he reach the required number of posts on here to get a starting spot?

Crowther
Lia - Dura - McKain - Ian Hogg
Party all the time - Daniel - Ferrante - Marco Rojas
Coasta - Astroclaus

Daniel and Hoggy broken.  Replacements Tim Myers and Hall-Jones (Lia to midfield).  Villazon on late for Marco.  Marco best on park again.

Astroklaus could/should have had a lot more.
He had about 5 golden chances before he finally put one away.
Costa missed a sitter with his head.

Wests were close to full strength at the start, missing maybe 3 or 4 main players.

By the end, Phoenix had worn down Wests with their relentless possession.

Diego seemed to be in control without ever getting out of second gear.

Ferrante still shooting and not looking like scoring.

Surely this Marco Rojas chap must be on the verge of signing.  All I've heard from each of our last three games is about him.

How did Costa and Astroklaus score our goals?  I want all the details.

Diego's easing into it after his op I think. Great to see him make an appearance.. nothing spectacular just yet but first impressions were good.

Both were well worked passing moves, finished off from 6-8 yards out.
Unspectacular, but well done.

I only caught the end of the first half and the full second (was caught in the ridiculous traffic on the way out!) and I totally agree that Rojas kid stuck out as brilliant - and he was only on for 15-20 minutes that I saw!
I reckon he looked better than Costa, great control and option taking.

I like the way Ferrante comes and gets the ball of the defenders, then sprays it round nicely.  Sometimes goes for the miracle ball when he could play simple but he does have a quality pass.

I reckon he and Diego could form a nice partnership in the middle.

Daniel sat just behind me, once he was showered and changed - he was talking to the guy behind him and didn't sound too worried about his 'knock' and said he was impressed with Neri.

Ferrante also came and sat with him and he was talking to some kids and said - ready for a rumour - "Marko is not a Phoenix player yet" - That's right YET! :)

I was fairly satisfied with the game, dominated possesion and I don't reckon any of them looked like they got out of second gear.

Neri worked hard, and yeah he did miss a few chances, but I also think with the 'proper' team around him he would fit in nicely.  Hopefully we'll get to see if that's true, if he sticks around a bit longer.

And Costa and Rojas did like to take on players, which I think has to be a good thing.

Dura is quality at the back too.
Did McKain go off?  Cause it didn't look like him at the back with Dura in the second half

So the YF initiative of gaining young players an opportunity to train with the club & the clubs allowance to it happening may have already paid off with a great impression being left in everyones mind.

Well done YF executive for this magnificant initiative!!
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Any chance of Marco Rojas being signed, HN?

The fact that he was asked back for a second week is hardly a bad sign.

Probably hard to make a call when Tony is in Sydney and Ricki in South Africa.  I honestly have no idea what the current thinking is.

Erm scrappy match. Astroklaus was nothing outstanding which was a pity as we had some good names going for when he got the ball, Astroboy, AstroWars and Astrophysicist. Would be good to give him another match though.

The team looked better without Daniel. Durante was solid.

Hard News also looks like he's lost weight.

marco really impressed me.

if you were at the game, in the second half, the highlight of his match was when he did a couple of step-overs, sold the defender, then had a placed shot which was heading for the top right corner, but was saved. stupid keeper. defo, was the best player on the pitch.

who was that other dwarf keeper who came on for them ?????

first thing he did was took a goal kick which went about 20 yards.

Nah you looked quite svelte.

Yeah what was that with the "little person" goalie? I thought they just wanted to give one of the youth a run out?

Wee keeper surprised me too...didn't let them down though.
By the looks of it Astro's lacking fitness, some good touches there, goal well taken  I may be wrong, but from memory his recent game time before coming here was sparse...?

Astroclaus showed some encouraging signs.  He got into great scoring positions.  Made some good runs.  And tracked back defensively for 90 minutes.

But on the flip side he should have had a hat trick at least, and only finished one of those chances.

Otherwise we looked pretty good.  Back four weren't really troubled.  Vinnie bobsledded a couple of people.  Party All The Time and Marco looked good on the wings.  Party delivered at least two great balls that Astroclaus should have scored from.  Costa is exciting with the ball but needs to be more decisive in goal scoring positions.

Was a good controlled performance especially when you think of who we were missing.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Well we brought him back down for the game, so I think there's a good, good chance. We need that under-age lad and he fits the bill.

Would be the goods for youth spot and should get player time on his form in these last two weeks, imo too.
