Hi all,

Not sure if this has been made public until now, but if Wellington win at Sydney tonight, my understanding from Football Australia that the Pre-Season Cup Final will take place at The Caketin on Wednesday night.

Cheers,

From the Phoenix site, the little upcoming matches box thing says 7:30, so I'm guessing a 7:30 kickoff.

I've assumed 1930 for my Countdown Timer. But can be changed easily once more information is released...

on the sydney match topic i said I thought so and LF1 (source of all knowledge) seemed to agree

((but it was abit hectic then and he may have been agreeing with something else - or just randomly typing positive phrases, following the WIN!!)

Almost positive the red for Durante will see him miss the final, but he should be back for August 17, unless the red was for something which earns more than a one-match suspension.

Whats the story with suspensions? Did durante just get 1 match for the red card or was it violent conduct meaning 2 or more?
And is mckain out too?

McKain got a yellow against the Roar, and didn't play last night just in case he got another and the Phoenix didn't make the final, meaning he'd miss August 17.  The slate is now wiped, so he's good to go for Wednesday (thigh injury permitting).

looks like a busy start to the week for the Nix management team and backroom boys/girls

I expect the buzz round the club will make the extra work worthwhile !!

any other injury/fitness news

will Mully be chance off the bench? (I'm thinking not, given Eddie B's focus on season-long performance)

Daniel subbed off last night - apparently fitness , hopefully not a knock

Great win last night! It's amazing how much support we have from supporters in other team's forums (at least, in the Mariners and Newcastle forums). Pretty much all of them seem to love the fact that we beat Sydney and a lot of them are cheering us on to win in the final.

Awesome stuff. a bit disappointed the game's on a wednesday though. We probably won't draw as big a crowd as in the weekend.

must be ready for a run out by now otherwise hell never get match fit, he has gotta be front runner for that RB slot, whats the situation with brown will he get a run in midfield or others preferred ahead of him

Has he been in full training for long, if at all? I don't think we'll see Tim until a few weeks into the season, we've got enough quality to let him really get fit and strong again, no need to risk it.

Mully would have tried to keep himself as fit as possible while off-contract so we will see him earlier, possibly even in the final.

edit - just tidying up the topic - i'll pm you CLtigers2008-08-03 13:15:19

If I can convince (and by convince I mean bully) the parents into letting me fly up to the game do you think it'd be worth it?  Being pre-season would there be a decent crowd even though it's a final?

My personal opinion is that the atmosphere is better when there's a smaller crowd because the noise travels and also, if there's not that many in the FZ theres more often one consistent chant that gets out.

EDIT: Exception being the Adelaide and LA games last year, I guess theres just a point where there's too many people for an intimate atmosphere but not enough for a huge, pulsing one.

What was the attendance for the round 1 game? Could we expect double that in attendance?

Just short of 5,000. I'm expecting between 4,000 and 5,000.

sup bro,

if I understand correctly they changed the rules especially for this preseason tourney so that any suspensions incurred would not carry over into the final.

that is, I'm pretty (and someone can correct me if I got this wrong) the A-League people worked it out so that players would not be suspended for the final, but it would be carried over to the first match of the season.

At the time it sounded like it made sense but as I'm typing it up it just sounds completely horrendous! but I'm pretty sure that's what I heard, could be wrong tho....

Yeah, I was keen to go up also until I found out that I could not get a flight back to CHCH after the game! Shame I have to be at work first thing Thursday morning otherwise I could have slept in some dodgy place overnight.... Anyway, guess I will just have to settle for three regular season games and the finals series . Dazza.

P.S. I cant wait for the 17th, but could someone please save me a shirt this time when I come up! Everytime I have been up on matchday all of the shirts in my size have been sold out!

quote from LF1 post in another topic

>>
Football Federation Australia today amended 2008 Pre-Season Cup disciplinary rules to wipe all yellow cards at the end of round three of the warm-up competition, meaning that the two teams contesting the final will start with a clean slate in terms of cautions.<<

for mine , that means ---

durante out (red),

all players on one yellow, won't need to sit out as they could pick up a yellow in the final without that meaning they'd miss game 1 of the season
