Predictions for first 10 player recruits
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

With the announcement form Ricki Herbert that within the next 7-10 days the first 10 players recruited will be announced, just thought I'd throw up the question of who do u predict they will be? remembering that Ricki has stated that half of this first 10 will be All whites.

My predictions (All Whites contingent): Mark Paston, Glenn Moss, Jeremy Brockie, Adrian Webster, Steven Old.

Others in the mix - Tony Lockhead, Tim Brown, Vaughen Coveney.

Sorry. But just getting a bit anxious to see the final outlook of the team.

I'm pretty sure they won't all be kiwi's.  My bet is a couple of Aussies.

5 All Whites : Barron, Lochead, Moss, Coveny, Webster.
Others : Barbarouses,O'dor,Tambouras,the return of d.rod,the return of d.ibrahim!

my thoughts is that they will market coveny as the 'saviour' for nz football as he is the top scorer off all time for the all whites and is a wellintonian isnt he?  "Kiwi legend signs for the Nix" i can see it already.. i think hes pretty good but i dont rate him as highly as others....definatly sign him though.

who id like to see in the 24.

def::

Word going round is that 5 or so will be announced next mon/tuesday and will include one "big name" australian.  What that means is another story...

Noah didn`t sound to enthusiastic on radio sport this morning about the contract he has been offered. http://www.radiosport.co.nz/ThisWeek/50745.wma  The interview starts at about 7mins 45 seconds. Maybe suffering from a big night?

Has Damien Mori signed for anyone yet?

The south americans should be signed for 2 year contracts. So that if they are good, they will not just go elsewhere for more money without the Phoenix getting a transfer fee, and if they are no good, well, 2 years is better than 3.

Well it's not like Noah is the best on offer out there. I don't think the nix should be resorting to signing just anyone they can find to make up a squad list.

If they really "must" sign some players to fill places they should sign them on short-term perhaps rolling contracts (within FIFA rules obviously), except for the few really solid players who they may want to keep for more than a single season. The interview talks about 2-3 year deals beign offered to people .. . . I'm not sure that's the safest idea. But perhaps FIFA rules dictate?  Anyone?

I think Noah is one of NZ's best Right backs currently and a useful mobile Centre back if needed (if you play 3 at the back), but we can't afford to bankrupt ourselves to have him here.  I do hope it gets sorted though.

Radio is calling Covs signed, will be confirmed next week.

I thought I'd resurrrect this thread, so we can do some comparisons between what we thought then, and now about who to sign. I notice that a few of the signings were picked already, and some remain up-in-the-air.  No-one seems to have picked Aloisi (I conceed that one came out of the blue a bit).

Maybe now's the chance for us to guess at some more possibliities. If six are confirmed already, who might take the other 4 spots in the "first 10".???

just my view on the whole older player thing, and ive heard in toher threads about this.

why pick up all these older players who are past it and not playing regular footy. i hear larrson. he wont come, after brilliant years with celtic and 2 years at barca and 6 months at united he wont come, hes staying in sweden for his family, would be a good signing tho - very unrealistic. duncan fergerson wont come either. more money playing for a lower leage side in eng or scotland. they shud try pick players up from clubs like aberdeen in scotland or hearts, or even look local, stuart kelly or brett fisher are quality - look local not abroad. thats what happened at the knights and the kingz, i didnt see the kingz tho cuz i just moved to nz 2 years ago.

look at youngesters too. send a few scouts to club games at grassroots at under 16s- under 18s might be a long shot but after a while you;ll see a player who lifts your heart, and then give him a trial.

but if larrson came, then id be flying to wellington each week from chch, becuz hes a leegnd and im a celtic fan :D

He was in South America recently with the All Whites - he could have also employed a scout there and be looking at tapes etc.

You don't think Ricki will sign Banks or Fleming do you? I like Fleming but he looked out of his depth (playing out of position tho) v Melbourne in that farce game for the Knights.

Check the thread The Brazilian - Steve Panopolus ex South Melbourne player is now living in Rio and working with a scout Ricki is using.

oh okay lol, yeah just read it on the 442 as well. hmm bring in larsson! would be a good signing! or what about looking at clubs like canty, stuart kelly is top notch and same with fisher. kelly has the attacking dynamic of being in the mid or striker, and brings some ex rangers flair to the club while fisher is your out and out goal scorer with convey?
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Yeah Fisher would be good, I know we have Aloisi but I see Lennon is leaving Celtic at the end of the season.
