Be interested to know if is case of Nix don't want to let Piscopo go, or he is happy enough in Wellington and doesn't feel the need to move to his home city Melbs.

I think we've established that WPFC aren't trying to hold onto anyone who wants to go

Piscopo if he wants to go (and there is no real evidence he does), will be different as Nix paid a sign on fee. They will want that back (was it $100K?) at a minimum.

No word at all about what the case the Nix had against FFA was all about? and whether it went to court or mediation ?.

The silence on anything football is quite deafening. You would expect they are planning to head to Aus some time soon.

If there's anything positive about setting up in Woolongong. It will be a good trial run for the setting up of a Nix W league team in Aus next year.

Money could be soo tight, Nix don't want to sign any new players, and increase their weekly wages outgoings until they really really have to.

Especially if they are going to be an extra $AU750K (lower limit of NSW disputes court they are in?) or whatever in the hole, re this matter with FFA.

Up front we are not in the worst shape but Talay has a ton of work to do at the back. Guessing this is where he is gonna use his visa signings. I'm assuming Jones will get a scholarship deal cuz he will probably head over and do pre-season with the squad.

I'm really, really scared of a Devlin/Rufer pairing. Tactically that's an absolute disaster, both on paper and as demonstrated post-COVID break. I really like Rufer but a defensive-minded midfielder able to close off passing lanes and screen the CBs alongside one of the other two mids is essential

In Uffie (on a budget) we trust. He said himself last year that a huge part of his role is recruitment, so I'm sure he's working to a plan.

Laws sounds a reasonable prospect. Australian U23s. On the books at Fortuna Düsseldorf .

If Trevor Zwetsloot has recovered from his terrible knee injury, and not looking to return to Europe, he'd be a good shout.

Its early days and far to soon to writing off any perceived combinations think Talay has shown that he is more than capable at getting the best out of players. Dont think any conclusions can be drawn until the full squad has been announced.

I am sure Uffie will come up with something. However looking at the current line up you could play a 433 with Piscopo, Ball and Davila at the top and move Payne in as your central DM stopper with Devlin and Rufer each side. Payne has played at CB....he knows how to defend and his passing is OK. Fenton goes into RB.

Fenton in a back four scares me more than a holding mid pairing of Devlin and Rufer tbh. IMO Rufer was one of the few players we had who played better after the restart, and if he plays the same way this season I think it will be at worst a functioning pairing, at best a fairly good (and cheap) one. He seemed a lot calmer on the ball, moved it on quickly and sprayed some excellent long balls and deep crosses. Maybe it was just the Pirlo-esque hair, but he seemed a markedly improved midfielder. Small sample size obviously, but if he continues to play in the way he did, a partnership of Rufer and scrappy doo doesn't seem all that bad.

Rufer could be good. Neither of them have played in a way that suggests they're a like-for-like replacement for Matti. Though both had great seasons.

Seemed like Uffie wanted Rufer to play long. Chances of keeping Piscopo?

Need some reliability signed to replace Taylor and Matti. Also, Payne definitely not a mid?

What was the alternative shape that gave Davila a more ten or deeper position?

Davila being a 'striker' was the change that kicked off that great run we had after Rnd 4 last round. Took away all the defensive workload for Davila and gave it to Sotirio, who was pushed back to those wider roles. Davila just isn't the same threat if he needs to defend.

Also found out from Tony P there is another roster rule change, it is now three u23's instead of u21's now.

Ah- okay one striker and one freer forward role. That makes sense. Two months to football.

I see Ugarkovic has left the Jets. Does Uffie know him? Not entirely sure, but he could be a pretty decent replacement for Matti, couldn't he?

He hasn't left, both Ibini and him want out of their contracts but the Jets won't budge. There was a fake tweet circulating saying they had been released.
