" The Phoenix actually won"

Thats how people see us. This puts a negative spin on it as if we werent supposed to win.
Its hard to get support when a team is seen in such a way.....

" The Phoenix actually won" is what I think as well. We haven't been playing well so it is a suprise when we beat one of the top teams.

that reaction is fair enough. we played like garbage for three weeks and hadnt won an A-League match in 9 or ten

Same here, too many people in my class said things like "The Phoenix are sh*t, why would you support them" and "Who would want to support a team that loses". I'd just say "I support them because I want to be there for the first win".

After the game I was telling everyone that this is the turning point and the nix are going to play like they mean it from now on, but most people were more of the opinion that it was a lucky win and we're going to play like sh*t again next week.  Hopefully the boys can keep this vibe and intensity going because that's what football is about and will win us more games.

Yeah i know what that's like i've experienced it with the Kingz, Knights and Nix. In the end i just tell them to pretty much f**k off.

Three for me, and two for them.

My dad does that too.

They watch because theyre a typical NZ sport supporter who almost wants their team to lose so they can laugh and criticise

Allegedly

More than a couple of haven't beens too to be fair lol

It's going to be interesting to see the impact the expansion is going to have in relation to the types of player/s being brought into the comp...

My dad occasionally has a dig at them when they do badly but overall he supports them.  He loves Smeltz and Daniel, and although he recognizes Karl Dodd's ability he thinks he's a stroppy player.

But whenever someone hassles them just smile in a smug way because you are enlightened and they aren't.

Steve Price said it all last week: "In NZ you've got to earn your support".   A Nix win next week would really put the t***erites in an uncumfy position...

Poor lads. My Dad loved the Kingz, took me to every game when he was here. If he was still around now i'm sure he'd love the Nix just as much.

Me thinks you two have some persuading to do.

Three for me, and two for them.

My old man is a pom, and has been supporeting Sunderland (as I do) so I think we can support a team regardless of how they are doing pretty well... Saying that I was not impressed at all with the prvious Two home games...

Also noticed quite a bit of negativity re: Phoenix since I got here. But there is quite a general negativity around football here as well - the argument used by the rugby lovers is always the same - its boring, there are hardly any "points" scored etc etc. I've tried to persuade people but it's a tricky argument if they are set in their ways.

I am the same with rugby though, can't get into it, and will never be persuaded that it's good!
