On the Newstalk ZB Champs Phoenix Radio show this saturday (1-2pm), Ricki Sherbert and Tony Pignata (CEO) are gonna answer your questions. Simply chuck them on this thread and they will choose the best. Feverish2007-07-31 17:22:29

Melbourne this weekend.  WTF ?

Of all the places you could practice travelling to, you choose the oppositions home park ?

Does Tony need to catch up with the family this weekend ?

Will this be pre-recorded or is it on the phone from Aus as I assume Ricki will be in Melbourne at this time ?

Why haven't we seen George yet?  Is he unfit or do you not see him as a starting player?  And if not, have we wasted one of our import spots?

Will you speak to the stadium people and let them know that football fans are different and we dont need to have music banged out right up until kickoff, and for the stadium announcer to at least get our players names right.

What will be the club strategy for away games? Travel early to acclimatise, or travel on the day to reduce costs?

Does he mind the name Ricki Sherbert?

How have they both settled into Wellington?

What else do they have in the pipeline to increase awareness of the first game?

What is their expected crowd figure for the first game, and average for the season?

Do either of them watch Friends?  (Friends is on in the background, and I am easily distracted)

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite

Can the pitch at the stadium be widened please?

1) It will make the crowd closer to the action, as it feels like they playing 100m away, and will help to provide more space and hopefully an even more expansive style of play.

2) Are there any jobs going at the Phoenix, ie anything from janitor to admin assistant to marketing??

cheers and love your work fullas!

(to Ricki) Who is more important to the success of the Phoenix, Tony Pignata or Frankie Mac?

Please ask why the show is on when we are all playing.

Hopefully someone on here is injuried so he/she can tell us the answer.

It's gonna be a regular show - so unless you are playing NZFC nightz then you should be right soon

He would not be able to reply honestly with Tony sitting next to him.

To Ricki: Were you jealous that you couldn't grow a beard as good as Bobby Almond in '82?

Yes I do, and you of all people should know why. Remember 7 Wasted seasons already.

We've put up with mediocrity before HN so when I see something like this happening again I will have a whine.

Will there be any formal arrangement with Team Welly to allow fringe players and players returning from injury to get game time?

Ricki, in 1982 was it a competition between you and Kevin Fallon for the best affro?
Do you own a retro Ricki t- shirt?

"We've put up with mediocrity before HN so when I see something like this happening again I will have a whine."

What do you mean "when I see something like this happening again"?  The fact that there's going to be a whole hour on a mainstream radio station dedicated to the Phoenix every week?  I can't remember that ever happening before.  And I'd have thought that would be cause for praise, not complaint....

I can tell you that.  No.  To move between the two clubs is an international transfer and you are only allowed 1 in a 12 month period.  if they transfer to team Welly during the season they won't be able to transfer back to Australia and play for the Phoenix.

What about on loan then?

Thats an interesting point jambo.

Maybe asking whether they have investigated the loan market at all, Melbourne being one of the first to dip their toes into the water with it?

Some of these questions are roll-overs from the Tim Brown interview which never got answered and some are new:

- Does Terry Serepisos smell like roses?

- Is Tim Brown really as nice as he seems?

- Which Phoenix player fancies himself as the biggest gangsta?

- How close does the TV show Footballers Wives come to capturing the gritty reality of a professional football environment?

- Does Ricki now regret not paying more attention to personal grooming back in 1982?

- Do you both wake up every morning thinking "Hell yes, I've got the best job in the world, everybody loves me, everything is going great, what could possibly go wrong?"

Cheers guys, you're doing a great job.

Will the Phoenix get a dispensation if 6 of the squad are selected to play in the world cup qualifiers in october and november?
Permalink Permalink
over 18 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Sanday, if you're talking about postponement of matches then there definitely is no chance of that happening.  There is no international break in the A-League so Australian sides don't get dispensation from the Socceroos or Ollyroos playing either though...

How far off is the NZFC from becoming a feeder system for the A-League (except U20's)?

Ricki - There will be players on the All White radar who were hopeful of a Phoenix contract. How difficult is it to keep a relationship with those players as manager of the AW's when on the one had you don't think they are good enough for club, but they are good enough for country?

Was just wondering Ricki, did the Phoenix try to contact Chris James about a move back to NZ?

Ricki - professional footballers have notoriously bad taste in music. No pressure, but what are your three favourite albums of all time?

Was NZ born Celitc player Michael McGlinchey contacted by Ricki as a possible Phoenix recruit/ loan player?

My question is about the lost opportunity to create a more visible presence via the merchandising of Wellington Phoenix shirts, T shirts, polar fleeces, jackets, coffee mugs, mousepads, flags banners etc at an earlier time than September!  I know that this is due to restrictions placed on the club by the FFA, but do Ricki and Tony see this as a lost opportunity as well?  I have marketing qualifications and experience, so I know what I'm talking about.  Could there not have been a request for dispensation from this to at least knockout some flags before the first game at least? To have folks walking around town in Phoenix apparel would certainly create a visual profile and create further interest in Wellington at least but possibly nationwide too!
