I expect someone might start a farewell Ross topic

but until then

Thanks Ross, you did a excellent job on and off the park as inaugural captain. I'd happily call you a YF legend.

Cheers Ross. Not many people get to make history but you did as Captain of the Nix in our inaugural season. You were a great ambassador for the Club. Thanks for eveything and good luck in whatever you do in the future.

p.s. Even the 'tackle' for the send-off against Sydney FC was quality

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

There's only ONE Aloisi
OOOOOONE Aloisi
Walking along
Singing a song
Walking in a ROSSY wonderland

There's only ONE Aloisi......

I sing that and sign off with huge praise and thanks to Ross for all he's done for us from me, and on behalf of DLB, Cosmo and Feverette......

Top bloke Ross.....loved every minute of your time with the mighty Nix.

Ross Aloisi

He's now a Kiwi

He came to Phoenix

From Adelaide

He smashed the Glory

But lost the A-League

Please don't take

Our captain away.

Great ambassador for the club... wish Ross the best luck with whatever path the rest of his life will take him, if that involves the Nix then I will be very pleased.

Cheers Ross, all the best mate in what you decide to do next.
You've gone down a legend and won't be forgotten with the Phoenix or the Fever.
See you @ Estab for a big one.

Did a great job for the club and for the team itself. YF shirts comemorating Ross as well as the 'Got Pie' shirts? Critical_Lemon2008-04-03 16:22:37

I nominate Ross as the first entry into the YF Hall of Fame. Do I have a seconder?

Cheers Ross for all you've done. Showed so much passion playing for us, in spite of the injury that he was carrying for most of the season. What a good guy!

Ross,
It was an honour and a privilege to have someone of your mana as the first captain of the Wellington Phoenix.

I hope we will have an opportunity at a home Nix game to show you personally how much we appreciated your leadership, guts and commitment.

Wishing you every success for the future.

Ross

thanks Ross for building the foundations for the nix. Although the position on last seasons table clearly does not show how much effort you put in to keep the team together.

Thanks Ross

Two things from news items on him tonight i'd like to address.

1. How on earth did TCGW manage to mistake him for John Aloisi. Poor lads, very poor.

2. Was his best Phoenix moment really scoring a goal in a exhibition match against the Galaxy?

Three for me, and two for them.

Here, here football mum.  Ross as the leader of the club and it's public face offered huge value.

He didn't contribute as much as he'd have liked on the pitch but his efforts towards the things that made the first season positive for the Phoenix were huge.

Cheers Boss Hogg.

What was bad about his captaincy? Sure he was a bit too passionate at times but I'd love to know what else was wrong.

Some great quotes from Ross in the article on the Nix home page, a couple below.

The defining moment in my life, when I finally decided it was time to go, was the game against the LA Galaxy. I should never have played in the game because of my back, but [coach] Ricki Herbert said it was such a special occasion that I should try and play 10 minutes. As it turned out I played 60 minutes, scored a goal, got a standing ovation from 32,000 fans as I left the field and swapped shirts with David Beckham."

And to be named skipper was huge. I just cant think of a more perfect scenario for me to go out on, to have been the skipper of a club that came out of nothing, restored the games credibility in New Zealand and had the best fans in the competition."

I know Ricki wont like me putting extra pressure on, but I predict the Phoenix to win the comp in three years time. This season I think theyll make the top four and you wait till finals football comes around Wellington will go crazy.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

They were all heroes to someone on here at some time.  Remember the 'Give George a chance' campaign ?

Not necessarily to everyone...

Incidentally, do you know how hard it was to resist deleting your anti-censorship post.

He's clearly a top bloke - but he's made the right decision.  He was well past his sell by date, off the pace and a liability in the middle of the park.  I'm glad he's made the decision and we can move on without him.  The Galaxy game was a good send off for him. Respectful enough?

Frankly, I'm disturbed to read that he was told he could play in the last game just so he could play against his brother given that he had a terminal back problem.  And we wonder why we finished last?  Bad call Ricki.
