Current book:

Smith - 40%

Italiano - 32%

Odds on 'Other' currently the big shortener.

According to twitter, a Keegan Check is in with a chance.

Very unsetling for the defence to not know who it will be. Mind you maybe the defence isnt sorted either

I got a bad feeling about this. We're gonna get dicked right up the arse I reckon. Not impressed at all with the off season.

With percentages like that, has anyone called Winston Peters to see who he's picking?

Sleeper bus from Auckland on Friday night, weekend with the lads, first game of the season, could it get any better? Fire the fudge up.

How many are we expecting at this game? Ususally the first game is quite well supported and if 1000 of the tickets given away turn up it could be a good turn out 9-10k?

We got just over 10k last year, think we might end up with slightly less, maybe 9.5k?

Nix are really pushing for family day too I think, with 1000 tickets to refugees, all the Capital Football Junior tickets and family friendly time that if weather also plays its part I would hope we get over 10k for the game.

If fans are coming here to watch, then there is no need for the travelling circus.

Slightly off-topic from the match thread, but even I, as an ex-wellington based, now living in Auckland,  understand the need for the Wellington Phoenix to stay in Wellington.

Are we welcoming Vinnie back?

I hope so since we didn't get to say goodbye.

Maybe when he's 25 metres out everytime, we tell him to shoot! It can't happen again!

At Avalon Park with the kids. Just saw a guy in an early Nix TEE. Asked him if he was going on Sunday and he said no. To me, these are the guys we should be trying to get back at the stadium.

Are they any new rules this year? VAR is now every game, right?

PS: Hope Vinniesta does not score.

I have to say the start to the season, coinciding with us having players out for internationals, is just completely farcical

You are so right. The club and the fans are doing a lot to try and generate some interest in the first game of the season, new signings etc, yet having to play with a depleted squad in or around the first game every season which often results in pretty underwhelming games does nothing to convince new/potential supporters that we are a club worth getting in behind!
