Just heard Ernie on the radio. Said Bonavacia played CM in front of Riera against Sydney and he was MoM - so sounds like he's a definite chance to play there. Also mentioned the front three - front running very much to McGlinchey, Burns and Brockie. So I'd say if he picked an XI to play tomorrow it'd be:

Moss
Muscat, Dura, Siggy, Doyle
Riera
Bonavacia, Rodriguez
McGlinchey, Brockie, Burns

Putting allot of faith in Brockie and Burns in that line up because we know that Goals are a weakness for WeeMac.

That's why its called faith.

For an attacking mid who is held in such high esteem in the A-League McGlinchey really has an issue finding the back of the net.

Who knows, if these three can figure out some sort of relationship,  they might all start smacking in the goals. Potential for a 7-0!

To be fair to McGlinchey, his goal scoring has been improving over the last few seasons. Also, the best attacking midfielder in the league by a fair margin (Broich) doesn't score all that many goals either, he sets them up for others. Which means that we are definitely putting a lot of faith in Brockie and Burns to score.

Broich scored alot in his first season. Wasn't he there or there abouts for golden boot?

Nope, 2 / 1 / 0 / 2 goals in his four years. Siggy has 6 in the last 4 years so that shows how little Broich scores.

I am not looking for WeeMac to be our scoring man, I want him to be the provider.

In contrast, I expect Brockie to repay the faith Ernie showed in him, and to do way better this season.

In general I would be happier with us not leaking goals this year - and the rest will take care of itself. We already have enough players capable of putting the ball in the net, so stitching a good attack together while still holding an intact defensive line is all I hope for this season.

I think despite the fact that I'm not his biggest fan, Ernie has made the right call with putting his trust in Brockie.

He has proven in past seasons that he is capable of leading the scoring charts in this league, and the one thing he really needs to do it is confidence.

Making sure Brockie knows that he's the number one man, will give him all that confidence and belief to go out and hopefully score some goals early in the season.

If Brockie wasn't given his chance, then it's unlikely to me that he would easily recover, and with his contract expiring at the end of the season (I think) then this is Ernie giving him the chance to prove he can work in his system. With the number of cuts Ernie has made to previous players, it would be naive for anyone to think Brockie will get an extension unless he proves himself this year.

Its great when we with opinions are proven wrong. I thought Riera would be a dud when he was signed. I also thought Brockies days were numbers too. I thought Sigmund was just a foul prone numpty. Just shows I really know fuck all about talent.

There is not much more anyone can do: Ernie's trust, YF Brockie T-Shirts and that new awesome Brockie chant!

If he does not score at least 10, we have to let him go.

This

Brockies future is 100% in his own hands. Ernie has given him huge opportunities to get back in form. In many ways the success of the team this season depends on Brockie banging in 10+ goals. He's the "go to guy". Ernie has said he is really excited about this years signings and said there is more to come. I would imagine he means that a striker would be top of the list for next season. If Brockie flops this season then I would imagine that he would struggle to get a new contract........no pressure Brock's!!!!!!

I do believe that this will be Brockie's season.  In hindsight, IMHO the spell at Toronto last year did him no favours.  He arrived back unaware of new systems put in by a new coach and started the season trying to catch up. From Phoenix to Toronto and then back he hardly had an off season and was therefore probably mentally tired as well. He is very much a confidence player and when he didn't score early last year his confidence dropped and the downward spiral kicked in.

In the West Ham and Newcastle games he looked to be getting into good positions and on another day could have had a couple.

In the last month or so he has got the "never scored in an international" monkey off his back as well.

The potential of our new midfield to deliver quality ball looks very promising and if that proves to be true an early season goal or two will do his confidence no end of good.  If he does that I would predict he will do as well as the 12-13  season and be one of the heros of a successful season.

Can't wait for it to start.

Yeah, you are probably right.  With Lia unlikely to feature much the forum will need a new whipping boy.  Not that I am saying that Lia did not deserve that role though.  He did
