I am quite disappointed that there are a couple of keyboard warriors that are so tough to denegrade the efforts of Allyson Flynn not because of her performance, but because she is a woman. Match officials can deal with stick from the football community. We are not perfect and certainly have howlers that are never allowed to be forgotten. That's part of the game that we buy into when we sign up and PAY to become a match official - you will never please anyone/everyone but everyone is entitled to their opinions on a referee.

To those keyboard warriors, do you guys tell your wives that all their dreams are worthless because they are a woman cause I bet you being an official on the HAL was a dream of Allysons. After all, you have just pretty much said that the efforts that Allyson has to go to to get herself onto the the league, pass the fitness test and be as good as the other officials every week, are worthless because she is a woman. Don't judge her on her performance and what she does every week, judge her on what body parts she has under her uniform. The fact that she is there doing it speaks volumes for the keyboard warriors that wouldn't even own a pair of runninig shoes.

Next time some of you are standing next to Tracey, Liz or Jo in the stands, supporting their team along with you, go tell them that their support does not mean as much because they are a woman. Go on, I encourage you to do so. See how that goes down.

A very low day and I actually feel very dirty wearing a yellow t shirt.

So much this! Well spoken Chris. Very, very well spoken.

Jeez ok. Yes for the most part we all agree with you. Even the person who said what they said would agree. I very highly doubt they spend their day walking around resenting women, calling them out on the street and all that nonsense. I think youre reading waaay too much into it. You sound like a reasonable and intelligent person, so not sure why you're getting so upset when its some 'keyboard warrior', but acting as though its the attitude of the entire club and its supporters. Chill out and calm down. Its the internet. Like you said, a keyboard warrior.

I thought Route 1 meant just booting it high and fast and hoping the strikers win the race. In contrast, Siggy's ball was an actual pass right to Burnsie's feet, and he was unmarked (as he was for the second goal - damn, if I was Sydney's keeper some people would have gotten some evil looks post-game).

No, during the game I would have actually shouted at them and called them useless. My point was that I would have been angry enough to still be p.o'd after the final whistle, when I've usually calmed down.

Overboard post, but I've met Chris and he is a strange but passionate individual,  however the sentiment is totally correct. Of course we can insult officials but lets keep it in the realms of decency. TBF I fell asleep pretty early on having averaged about 3 hours sleep a day over the last 4 days so I've not seen this officials efforts.

But I doubt very much her gender was a factor in her decision making. It is more likely the poor standard of officiating that is standard fare in this part of the world. However just as the standard of football improves every season so I reckon the standard of officiating will to.

I think if we feel then need to insult an official though we need to use gender-neutral terms.

I reckon f*ckwit is a good one. If that denigrates anyone then something like "Arse Clown". Nobody likes Clowns so I reckon this a shoe in.

Despite what you seem to think, if somebody shoots their mouth off they are accountable for what they say.  And that is regardless of what they might, or might not, actually think.   If you don't get that, then maybe you are part of the problem.  They made a comment denigrating women.  The right response was they got called out for it, as they did.  The best reply would have been an apology and move on.  In my opinion the worst response was to jump in and defend sexist posting.  You are going to get shark for doing that.  Eat it.

Conclusion

Burns, the goalscoring hero, mentioned a few interesting things in his post-match interview with Fox Sports. First, he rightly pinpointed Bonevacia’s pressing on Antonis during the second half as being crucial to Wellington’s improved performance. By shutting down Antonis, Wellington prevented Sydney from being able to create 2v1s out wide, and by having more of the ball, Sydney were also able to take greater advantage of their numerical advantage in midfield.

[Well spotted Valeo]

It’s somewhat appropriate to contrast this very balanced Wellington performance with their opponents. Injuries have depleted Sydney’s squad of key players, and although they created good chances here, they are lacking the outright quality that players like Abbas, Brosque and Ognenovski bring to the side. Replacements will arrive in January, but until then, current performances are falling somewhat short of what Sydney are capable of.

[Well called JV]

People are desperate to be offended by anything these days.

Thanks Buffy for telling me how I should feel about blatant sexism - he is still doing it in his "apology" post - yes it was a bad call but the fact the AR was a female shouldn't come into it at all.  The AR was shark and made a bad mistake - True!

FYI did Banzai take the time to learn the names of all the male AR's who made mistakes against us?

I
Maybe 2ndBest can make a graph of mistakes made by male v female ARs

My girlfriend actually blamed the mistake the AR made on the fact that she was a woman, and not a man.

So do you actually believe that?  That she is inferior to a male AR for some reason relating to her gender

If my missus made that same comment, i would agree with her.......

I am feeling pretty chuffed with this win and my phone is beeping with positive texts from fringe Nix followers.  We'll take it and deserved it.

I guess we can wonder how it would have gone with Ognenovski, Abbas and especially Brosque playing, but I think we deserve to be 4th regardless.  We had our shark year for injuries last year, I'm quite happy to collect points off the odd team with a spot of squad depth testing goin on.

Just to clarify... I wasn't really serious about the route 1, and was actually trying to compliment the pass from Siggy which was pinpoint.

I love the fact that we have a number of facets to our game at the moment, and regularly mix up long passes, balls through the middle for Krishna/Burns to run at on the diagonal, slow methodical passing through the midfield, and overlapping fullbacks (e.g. Fenton). So often in the past we'd have one plan (usually an overlapping fullback hitting a cross straight at a defender) and no plan B. As it is it makes us a very dangerous team to try to contain.

Fortean Times: We have met? Apologies but I don't remember. Strange and passionate is on the money though :o)

Why am I being 'over the top' on one/two keyboard warriors? Because at some point, there needs to be a line in the sand that cannot be crossed when it comes to abusing officials. I've been refereeing 23 years and I have pretty much seen it all at every level. What gets on my goat the most is the people that say 'Oh I'd never be a referee. You get too much abuse' but are then the first to complain when they don't have one that weekend. Yeah we all have days where we are a little bit less than stellar and have earned a bit of stick but that’s not open licence for people to feel they have a god given divine right to speak to a referee anyway they like. Yes the decision is incorrect. Did it affect the game? Do you think she knows she got it wrong? Does she need to be told to get back in the kitchen?

The two hardest things we have is getting referees at an age where you can turn them into a referee at a high level and keeping referees. Player numbers are growing, referee numbers are not. Young officials get abused and leave the game and some people just get to a point where they are sick of it and would rather stay home. I've seen some young guys reduced to tears and they have nothing they can do other than just quit. The instant cards are shown, the referee must be over the top and is ruining the game. When nothing is done, they need to harden up and punish the players. This just does not belong in football at all. There are some things you just cannot say to someone and expect it to be ok. For all you know, the next future FIFA official could be standing next to you at a football ground or reading an internet forum and then thinks 'nup, not for me. I'd rather be a mediocre footballer thanks'

This is not tiddlywinks as Tana says and opinion comes with microscopic glare and that’s fine. I have no issue if people want to tee off on officials for being less than stellar but for being a woman?!? I’ve never been a PC person but that’s just rubbish. You may not represent the club or other fans but you do represent yourself and should have a little more respect to not go to such levels as that. Put your keyboard down and walk away for everyone’s sake. I won’t be saying anymore on this so it’s the end of my ‘overboard posts’.

Great game. As much as the commentators talked up Sydney's performance in the first half, it seemed pretty even to me.

Yes but he is not trying to fix the world.

The guy who made the initial comment apologised but then there were a few people who tried to defend his actions and in particular AJ who just starting saying sexist things himself.  He clearly dosnt see the issue.

Happy to leave it here, I would have just hoped we could be better than that. Women are part of football at all levels, playing, supporting, administration, and officiating and what's more they work Damn hard to be there. They are not immune to criticism but as the forum rules state play the ball not the (wo)man.
