Been reading some of the above and whilst I don't condone some of the comments, I think people are making a fundamental mistake when reading these posts. This fans' forum, like all others, is not the real world! People will post stuff for many reasons that they'd never repeat or say out loud in public and may even regret posting (I am Spartacus!) . Well apart from ... <insert identity of choice> :-)
This is a forum which should have some leeway on making comments that are unacceptable. If you cross that line then you'll get a big response, but let's not get too politically correct you bunch of fudgeing cods! :-)

Totally agree, but football chants on the  'terraces' at every football  game are based on putting the opposition down by whatever means. Terrace humour is based on so many -isms', I can't list them and if stated at work would result in disciplinary action

No one seems to get upset when chants are based on the referee or when questioning said official's parentage or similarity to several anatomical parts.

Offence has been rightly caused by the criticism being based on the sex of the official.
What is needed is gender neutral term (fudge me - pc really has got a hold)  for the fourth official and the demonstrated lack of ability in their position

Obviously cod, prick and similar expressions are unacceptable, as are references to 'Lines' in the same manner of 'Chair' (God forbid!)

How about a blanket chant which has served fans for generations - THE REFEREES ARE BASTARDS!

Another option would be "THE REFEREES ARE THINGYEES AND THEY'RE WEARING BLUE"

This of course is insulting to Jason Gunn and his early TV career, but who gives a FUCK!

:-)

It's ok, you get a free pass because it's on the terraces and been said/sung before.

The first two words in my reply "Totally agree" surely state it's not ok, there's not a free pass.
My following words attempted to highlight that terrace/forum humour exists in its place
When a comment goes beyond the limits of the forum, then the poster gets flamed/posts, as has been demonstrated
If we are going to follow this line of political correctness on our forum then there are many, many posts that should be highlighted as being stupid, sexist etc

Let's stick to the thread... Away win! 4th place! COYN! Fudge Christmas! I can't wait til the 28th!

Happy to have a discussion on appropriate fan behaviour on a different thread

Personally my bug bear on inappropriate Phoenix fan behaviour is the chanting of 'Twist & Shout'.

That's a West Ham chant that has been promoted by Hammers' fans after the FU NZ Tour

My objection to Twist & Shout being chanted is not anti-Hammers it's just not a Nix/YF Chant (in my opinion)

i am not a fan of twist and shout but i guess any noise is better than no noise so not too worried if others are into it i just do not chant along to it.

Lots of embarrassing posts in here. Let's move on.  Clearly there are some people who still have beliefs stuck back in the 50s.

For the record, misogynistic, racist, homophobic posts aren't acceptable here. Just because you think something is acceptable, doesn't mean it is.  Those who posted such earlier should take that as a warning.

Dangerous ground! Humour and especially terrace humour is based on subjecting someone/something  to ridicule!

Banter is the most ruthless form of humour, but is usually accepted/borne because it's done to friends/mates/peers.

Good banter should be acknowledged and ideally returned with interest

Just apologise dude, and move on...

I want to say to each of you, simply, and directly, I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior I engaged in.

I know people want to find out how I could be so selfish and so foolish. People want to know how I could have done these things.  And while I have always tried to be a private person, there are some things I want to say.

I have started the process of discussing the damage caused by my behavior. As YF posters have pointed out to me, my real apology will not come in the form of words. It will come from my behavior over time.

But, still, I know I have severely disappointed all of you. I have made you question who I am and how I have done the things I did. I am embarrassed that I have put you in this position. For all that I have done, I am so sorry. I have a lot to atone for.

I recognize I have brought this on myself. And I know above all I am the one who needs to change. I owe it to my family to become a better person. I owe it to those closest to me to become a better man. That is where my focus will be. I have a lot of work to do. And I intend to dedicate myself to doing it.

As I move forward, I will continue to receive help because I have learned that is how people really do change. Starting tomorrow, I will leave for more treatment and more therapy.

Finally, there are many people in this forum and there are many people at home who believed in me. Today, I want to ask for your help. I ask you to find room in your hearts to one day believe in me again. Thank you.

I can recall an absolute shark-ton of poor calls from male officials in the A League before and never has anyone indicated that those are in some way related to their gender.

No, it was their parentage

You silver-tongued flatterer you JV!

Apart from when we occasionally descend into the bottomless pit of numptiness (most of this thread post-match), this forum is full of erudite and humorus posters.  Everyone playing their part like a well-crafted Noh theatre or Beijing opera.

you do realise most chants from fan groups around the world are taken from other fan groups around the world right?

Excpt that it DOESN'T 'belong' to another set of fans. We sung it at the Kingz again and again and again - It was arguably one of core anthems there.

It's been heard at Brisbane Roar games, and I heard it being sung by the Glory fans when I was in Perth.

It's sung by various groups of football fans the world over.

So, what makes it any different than any other chant or song that is copied, or derivitives of which are heard from fans groups all over the world?
