Really good win. Singh and Williams obviously awesome and Burgess was extremely lively too. Gutted about Louis, he's had such a good comeback season, but hopefully with the belief this squad has build they can work around it moving forward.

We now have 2 players who have scored over 10 goals inside a season (and with 4 rounds to go!!!)

Is that a first for us?

It is! Probably next best is Ifill with 13 and Greenacre with 8.

We need to do whatever it takes to keep Rudan, even if it's just to hold on to Williams.

What a fricken game.

I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

Fantastic game. Great energy from the team and great in both halves which sometimes has been lacking.

Whats can we do as fans to keep this team together apart from turning up to games?

What I keep thinking too. I just think we have to admit it's not going to happen, and just to be happy we're getting this; because I am fudgeing enjoying it.

What a game. Singh looked back to his best for the first time in quite a while imo. I think he flourished not having the entire attacking burden on him with Burgess alongside.

This really reminded me of Ernie's team in full flight - not a lot of possession, very dangerous on the counter and strikers putting every chance away.

It's interesting as it was the second go of the two number 10 experiment which failed with Nichols in there.

Let's hope Fenton's injury isn't as bad as first thought, because Elliot isn't quite there yet.

as well as we played, the jets were well in that game for a very large part. If their finishing had been like Williams and Singh, it could have been a very high scoring game.

Hugely enjoyable evening, we played some great football, rode our luck a bit, and finished well on top. One of the best Phoenix games id say.

Just back after that. One word, WOW.

Where to start? What a start! Seemed to go a bit flat after that, but have to say, didn't think it was a pen, if it was, it was marginal?

But the third and fourth goals, sublime finishes. I have to say, I wasn't overly concerned after we scored the third.  We were getting absolutely everything.  Some of the football in the lead up to the third, fourth and fifth (disallowed) goals was great to watch. To the point where things you think some big european sides should be doing, and they pull it off. The little one touch plays were a joy.

But FFS. What is it with Wellington?  I have to say, I don't think the club are doing enough on the marketing front.  They really should have pushed this game this week. I know it was cuba dupa, and the weather was great today, but we should have got more than 9k. That was pathetic. I was proud to be amongst the crowd today, but for crying out loud, this is a bloody good team. Kudos to the fever, they were in good voice today, keep it up!

This week was the first time i've lost confidence on Rudan staying. I'm going to enjoy what we have. He could build something really special here, if he had the balls to do it.

Yellow Fever 1 Warrior Nation 0.

(My two fan forums today).

It's Ecstacy Plus in Gold And Black., misery in blue, red and green. Maybe Christchurch deserved the good vibes this weekend?

This Phoenix season just gets better.

Just home. Awesome night. Can hardly talk I am that hoarse with yelling and cheering.

Can't see it mentioned earlier in this thread so I will ask? Is that our fastest goal ever in an A League game? I can't recall anything inside 30 seconds.

On a nice note, fair play to Mossy at the end. Clapped the fever as he went up and the tunnel and threw his gloves to some young lads. Class

Might be biased based off my username, but Ben Waine is the future striker of this club. The runs he was making tonight for a 17 year old were absolutely phenomenal.

Was a great night out. Our counter attacking and finishing is lethal. Defence did well given that Newcastle had to throw the everything they had at us. Tactically we were so spot on. Enjoy the ride. Just hope that the Western United thing doesn't become a circus.

It was a really good test for him. Played half of a very important, high tempo game and came through it well. As his confidence grew he even started getting forward more towards the end.

Who's the preferred replacement for Fenton?  I would assume Gulley but seems like Rudes has Elliot up the pecking order

Shame Perth let Victory win. If Perth had won, this result would would have made 3rd place a big chance for us. Buzzing at the goals. I really hope the owners make an effort to keep this side and coach together. SBS are just a bunch of gossip mongers. We have something special going on and I am enjoying it. I think if this is a consistancy thing, the crowds will grow. If we get a home playoff game I'm picking at least 15k if not more. One more home game to go. Bring everyone my fellow fans, even the kitchen sink can get a PAX number!!

Great night at the stadium, great overall performance by the boys, remarkable how good the team performed considering this was not our preferred starting eleven. And impressive how good the teenager fit in. Everyone is relaxed and confidence is high.

Williams has just a great season, his touches, his work rate and his goals are just outstanding.

Singh is unbelievable, how he controls the balls and his passes are superb, he even sprints back in the 90 min to defend, I’m in love.

Mandi was again the clockwork in the midfield, I like his aggressive play to get the ball and if he got, no ones get it back. His little one two’s with Rufer was a masterclass in pass and move.

All the best for Fenton.

A word for Dura too. Makeshift defence all around him... and he holds them together extremely well. Lowry had a very good game I thought.

Enjoy the moment. This is what we all wish for:

/ A winning team

/ A team in the top four

/ A charismatic coach who believes in the system, club and players

/ A team playing attacking free flowing entertaining football

/ Plenty of kiwis

/ Youth players coming through an academy system

/ Decent crowds

We have it all. Let’s enjoy it

Taylor, Kopa all unfit, Doyle too? And now Fenton out. Why no Gulley?

Thought Lowry had another excellent game; Golec a bit shaky on the night, and Elliot just not there yet IMHO.

That leaves Gulley (?), Lowry, Dura, Golec, Cacace fit to play, Elliot as cover, and a game next weekend.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a RWB or CB signed as injury replacement.

IIRC Lowry filled in at RWB in the FFA cup and looked fine.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/a-league/111676078/possible-seasonending-injury-to-louis-fenton-sours-wellington-phoenix-win

"Our understanding is that it could be a fracture," said Rudan, who was already dealing with minor injuries to defenders Steven Taylor and Michal Kopczynski and has Justin Gulley and Tom Doyle working their way back to fitness.

It is a position where the Phoenix do not have great depth. Fenton's replacement on Saturday night was 19-year-old Callan Elliot, a makeshift fullback who was playing just his second ever A-League match, while Gulley, the only other recognised right-back in the squad, has battled his own injury problems and has not featured since joining from Team Wellington in the January transfer window.

There's a lot of things going well this season obviously. But, the most pleasing thing for me is the fact that we can rest guys like Taylor, Kopa and have Roy suspended, and we still come up with the goods. I don't think the Nix have ever had a squad like this, and that includes the Ifill/Greenacre/Brown etc years.

And, yeah, Elliot had moments where he looked like the pace of the game was beyond him, but overall he stepped up too IMO.

We look fit, united, and deep as a squad, and we're in form at the right end of the season. Hopefully we can keep it up. There's more damage to be done yet by the Nix, I reckon.

Yeh totally. The way we were on the backfoot after the first goal I thought they were going to run through us. Impressed with how we powered back in the second half.
