There does seem to be a really bug gap between us and Victory, despite our away win. The question is, can anyone see a way for the gap to be bridged, because other than having a lucky day at the office I can't.

After conceding the first goal in 90 sec. we were always going to struggle. Having to make a sub when Griff came off would not have helped but we never seemed to be in control. Muscat was ball watching for the first goal and that was it.

MV  always seemed to be in the box seat and that is what surprised me. In Ernie we trust?

Was always going to be a hard 2 weeks. Still think we can win the whole thing. But this last FIFA window towards playoffs destroys us, especially if you get a couple of players out thru injury/suspension at the same time, which will happen at this stage of the season.(Siggy, Lia and Riera). Lia's the first player you pick for a game like this. Big loss. The Nix and Ernie won't say a word about the window to match Arnie's thoughts about the FIFA window/ALeague clash, and still won't. (due to harming NZ Football relations) However it stuffs us up. Last week seeing half the main squad gone, and this week seeing if they've had enough sleep and energy to play against Melbourne V. Had Victory to win by 2 tonight,. and have us to win the next 3 by a margin.

In 2 years I haven't seen a lot of Ernie re-jigging a team, more getting them to refocus on the game plan and get it right again (I said earlier he doesn't really vary the game plan a huge amount).  But he has made some good switches so far this year.  We lack depth and no-one has really emerged from the squad during the season other than Krishna, no bolters from the youth team etc.  So I'd say he has his work cut out for him!

Ernie, for better or for worse, trusts in his game plan and sticks with it. Unfortunately the last 2 weeks the personnel haven't stood up and the opposition has worked us out. Either we change our plan, or we stick with it and hope it comes good again. It's heavily reliant on player performance, though, and we haven't been up to it the last couple of weeks.

Anyway, overall, you'd have to say Ernie's plan has worked so far this season. No reason to stop trusting him now. He's made a couple of odd decisions these last couple of games though - for example; not sure why we started so attacking with Griffiths on against the best attacking team in the league against MV and after getting thumped 3-0 the week before. A-Rod was lost at sea.

Also think Roly is trying to do too much now. He's visibly frustrated.

Totally agree. Most clubs have a flyer who comes from no where in the youth/reserve setup, but we have no-one who has taken the next step. A few who think they have, but have yet to prove it eg Ridenton and Rufer.

The reserve team has just gotten started, and look how Boyd came on and scored a couple against Adelaide.

I guess it's unlikely we will get an injury replacement for Joel at such short notice?

Think Roly operates in a different world. Class above most around him. A Rod was really disappointing, but think the forced changes thru the window have affected many.

After watching the Nix this year there is no comparison with the teams we had in the past. Over the years we were happy when we did not get flogged every week. Now we are playing some great football and although we lost tonight, at least we we were competitive.

I'm sorry I read them at the time but I don't remember them.

In a salary capped league it would just be ridiculous. You can't pay people a lot more when you do well unless you are only operating at 75% cap space. These guys didn't lose because they went to town and shot dope before the game. We lost because the game plan didn't work. I get angry when players don't show proper commitment but I think there is a big difference between that and just playing poorly.

I'm no medical expert, but looking at the directions Joel Griffiths' knee went in as he landed, it wouldn't surprise to learn that he needs a complete knee reconstruction after that. Poor lad - no player deserves that to happen to them.

Defo one of the worst knee injuries I've seen, and that unfortunate experience includes seeing three players suffer ACL injuries before my eyes - they're eight to twelve months' recovery time at best. :-(

The biggest disappointment for me is that yet again we've built up some good press and interest in the team on a string of good results, and then play awfully in front of a building croud.  We had a LOT of new faces around us.

That and watching us give up dopey goals from simple FB errors and corner defending two weeks in a row.  Poor Ridenton was on a hiding to nothing last week, but Manny should have done better and 0-0 at the break might have meant a totally different game.

Edit: And I'd say there is a bit of rose tinted there about being competitive tonight.

There has been a bit of discussion about the referee on Facebook but really he had nout to do with the result. You can look at a few cards and say that they were bad calls. None of the bad calls actually lead to goals. To blame the ref or even mention the ref is pointless stuff.

I actually don't know why we lost so badly. Melbourne Victory just seemed to be way more comfortable on the ball than we were. They clearly had a plan to not let us settle on the ball. It was a well executed game plan but I thought they tried to do that to us over in Melbourne and we counter attacked quite well.

Last week you could just move on and accept that bad results happen. It is more difficult to do that after back to back 3-0 losses. As others have said I don't know that we can do much to change things now. Riera will come back in and we will be a lot better. I guess after all the off season signings we made we still haven't fixed our reliance on him.

I tend to think that Melbourne Victory are going to be a very difficult beast to beat if we have to face them again. The worrying thing is that they now have a "blueprint" to beat us with.

I think everyone needs to accept that we lost and sleep on it.

We all seem to be forgetting our position on the ladder in the previous 2 seasons was well below where we are now and we are flying way higher than any of us dared to dream at the start of the season.

We will return to winning ways soon and when we do it will feel awesome again. That is football and thats why we love it so much.

Im on the no plan b bandwagon having seen no discernible action in the second half that attempted to claw back from 0-2 and then 0-3 down.  3 subs warming up and nothing.  By all means accept that we were rubbish again but don't throw in the towel like 2nite.

Now that its down to the wire our laboured passing game that often involves 270-360 turns to get anyway is just not cutting the mustard.  SFC and MV are way quicker at their passing and played longer balls and both deserved to win.

You cant be serious about the ref he was shocking. Its not so much the stuff he pulled up but the little clip here and a pull back there and all at time which had an affect on our guys.In saying that its 2 weeks in a row our guys havnt fronted, still reckon we are 3/4 players short of being really ready to maintain a serious challenge.

Also what the FK is it with watering the ground are you serious it is just bloody stupid and certainly stopped the ball from running.

There are a few players who need to take a look at themselves - the effort tonight and last week was below par.

If the whole team played with the intensity and effort of Fenton, Kenny and Roly we would have matched Victory tonight.

We saw glimpses in the second half of why we could go all the way but some boots up the arse are due for those who have slipped in to cruise mode.

There seemed to be a fair bit of inconsistency in the first half with a lot of repetitive fouling from them unpunished and our fouls getting yellow cards.  But we probably brought that on ourselves to some extent by getting frustrated with their tactics and over doing it in response.  Rolly being one of the worst, and not for the first time.

I wonder if we need to get smarter and go down a lot on early fouls and force the refs to act.

Considering how bad last week was, it was appalling that we turned in a performance like that tonight. Second to every ball, lacked urgency, lacked creativity and just stood and watched Victory pass the ball all around us. Anyone would think it was a pre season friendly the way we approached that game.

What also gets me is despite 180 minutes of the same turgid stuff, we haven't changed our tactics once during that time?

I would've had Hicks in from the start tonight too. McGlinchey is too lazy for a central midfield position.

Overall, bitterly disappointed. Our group brought around 12 extras with us tonight and it was embarrassing to sit there and watch the Nix play like that. I doubt many of them will be back and who could blame them?
