Carlos was pretty much the definition of a luxury player when he was here. He scored and created goals but you had to set the whole team up to accommodate him just standing round in the middle of the park not marking anyone, not tracking back, and not closing down the ball carrier. I think pretty much any coach would have issues with that.

This sort of became the case when it was obvious he was no longer in the frame for selection for Costa Rica in the World Cup. Prior to that time, you may remember he was often referred to a a new man, revitalised , fitter than ever etc

Yep, his first game for us.

He was boss.

Agreed. Carlos was actually able to make a difference then.

All credit to Ricky Herbert for that one.

12.5 million rupees = about $300,000 our money, which isn't bad, I suppose. But he'd be a billionaire in Iranian rials!

what I found crazy is that in Russia they have kopecas, which are one one hundredth of a ruble. when I was last there that equated to one two thousandth of a dollar, surely the metal is worth more? Even the beggers don't bother picking them up.

One rouble has 100 kopecas, and every decimal currency in the world has two units, like we have dollars and cents.

But currency fluctuates, and if it doesn't then one day they will do a monetary reform whereby one new rouble will equal a thousand old ones.

I spent a year in Uruguay in 1982 and their bills were overstamped with a correction after exactly such reform, coins were automatically assumed to have new correct value.

Sure, but we don't have 1 cent piece anymore, back then a dollar was about 24 roubles, now its 42 roubles so its worth even less. They have 1 Kopeca coins. I don't mean get rid of the decimal, but having coins which are pretty much useless seems strange.

Drill two holes in each 1 kopeyka coin? Sell them as buttons for 10 kopeykas each?

I'd have McG in for Powell. Not as fast but probably a more effective player out wide. Keep the rest of the starting squad the same, rotate the bench a bit.

Indonesia has lots of coins that you are given but are worth almost nothing. From 50 r to 1000 r.

There are nearly 9000 r to a NZ dollar. I just leave them as tips.

Maybe Weemac in for Powell..definitely wouldn't take out Sarpong who is gaining confidence I think.  Would even be tempted to not change winning team as I thought the pace was quicker without Weemac.  Roly stepped up and liked the freedom I think.  Got more ball as well.

Is it just me, or did anyone else think that Roly got frustrated early on in the season when in contrast WeeMac played really well? Is there something amiss in the way the team plays when they are both on the park. I noticed how well he played last week with WM absent.

I deleted words to that effect from my post so I agree.  Im not convinced the gel that well....contrasting styles and rhythm(sp).  I liked the faster transition thru midfield last week.

Roly seems to enjoy rushing forward or turning at pace, weemac seems more content to hold up play and look for a pass back to midfield. Roly works better with our counter attack because he's willing to take on players, weemac is great but im not sure he gels in the system, especially playing forward.

I don't think Adelaide put as much pressure on Roly as other teams have done either, and I think that was probably more why he had such a big influence in that game than anything to do with the absence of WeeMac. In fact, WeeMac's good form early this season might be partly because he's been allowed a bit more space because the opposition have been committing 2 men to closing Roly down.

I don't think that we'll find anywhere near as much time and space in the middle of the park against WSW as we did against Adelaide, and we could struggle to create chances because we lack width. Sitting deep and drawing them out before counterattacking with Krishna's pace should be the plan IMO

Altho Adelaide did kick him, they didn't kick him all round the park, like most of the other teams have done

Interesting comments on Simon Hamptons twitter:

https://twitter.com/simonhampton9

The nix are unhappy because all of their players had to fly back to NZ economy while others (including Kosta who obviously didn't even play for the AW's) came back in business class.

Apparently Rufer and McGlinchey have been struggling in training because of it.

Reminds me of the Ghana National Team at the last World Club. Ghana football boss with family flying first class, team with sore legs in the back on the cheap seats. Prince Boatang freaked out and got fired.

Playing in Oman wouldn't be the easiest in those sweltering conditions, then coming back to our climate could also of played a part in the lads struggling abit in training. Did anyone from TV3 follow up to see if Kosta is struggling in training? who knows lol

I think when you consider the results we have had, 3 points here does more than keep us in touch. It says we can put away sides we should do. We dropped a few points last year to teams that were in the bottom 4 and we should have beaten. Seeng the Jets and CCM games, I'd like to think this is not going to be a repeat and we get 3
