No match thread yet? The TAB seem pretty confident we will lose...

AWs back - WeeMac will walk straight in you'd assume, but will Fenton and/or Doyle come back in? I doubt it personally - I think Gulley has done enough to keep his place

I think WSW will be tough, as much as I hate to say it, Nicholls has been doing well and will be key to shut him down.

I could see WSW were finally hitting their straps last weekend, and will be on a high. We'll be alright though, provided we do not let in an early goal in the first few minutes, which seems to be a quirky hobby of ours.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Sarpong (is getting each game better) , McGlinchey, Bonevacia and Krishna will drive them mad in the midfield. We will smash them!

Hope Bonevacia stays in that advanced role. Drop McGlinchey back a bit.

Would almost be tempted to drop Sarpong for that reason.

Why do I get this nasty feeling that if we drop Sarpong he'll throw a tanty and we'll never see him again? Like that Chinese fellow?

To be fair to Doloras a smidge, Leilei Gao was rather forgetable.

But Jiang Chen wasn't.

(oh, well he was really)

More talk about the Nix doing some stuff with Chinese clubs tonight at the Wgtn City Council launch for preparations for Chinese New Year (8 Feb).

I hope so. When we get that airport extension with direct flights to Beijing it will be like "Boom, friendlies every week".

Think Doloras is probably talking about Chen.

Put it this way-think Ernie is a better manager than to drop a frustrated, but expensive and classy player, who as yet has underperformed next to his reputation, as he is still adjusting to the league. Think about how long that took Roy. Sarpong will hopefully adjust quicker. Also not convince he's a wing-forward the same way the others are. His favourite zone seems almost running from deeper, rather than wider...Seems like it might take him a while to adjust to our prefered game plan.

I also remember liking Gao, until he went off the boil and looked like he was pissed off all the time.

Gao ripped it up for a few games for the Knights

In all fairness, i'd love to see a few Chinese teams (esp Chinese Super League teams) down here for games.

I was talking about Gao. I didn't say his name because I thought it was still text-filtered.

The last news item a month or so ago mentioned two Beijing teams - which would most likely include Guo'an (bring your green turtle soft toys) - the only CSL team from the capital.

I'd love to have a Cantonese team over and maybe Shanghai Shenhua (if only for their mei nv).

I think the only player that has not really gelled under the Ernie regime was Carlos.  Ernie seems to be quite patient with all of the squad.

And he was a Ricki signing and he still didn't do too bad considering...

Sarpong is fit and rested while WeeMac has flown up to Oman and back.  I would hesitate to drop Sarpong for WeeMac  - if anything, I would be prepared to accept a slightly tired Weemac to be subbed.

Boyd didn't appear to work either with Ernie and from all the rumour it appears to be his fault more than Ernie's.

Carlos and Ernie were rumoured to have had baggage from working together at Victory. I'm sure that neither were happy to to find themselves at the same club again.

Carlos complaint privately that no one passes to him. So he must me disliked by the players or he did not get game plan.

Brockie didnt work under Enries game plan. But they were professionals and Brockie left on good terms. Hernandez thought he was the hottest shark and you could see it when he was screwing with opposition players. It was like "WE ARE 3 GOALS DOWN. STOP TAUNTING THEM AND SHOOOOOOOOT!"

I do not think he realised that he was getting a bit slow. If he was in the right place he was still good but could not keep up with pace and turned petulant instead.

In fact probably all his Christmases came at once, and unfortunately at a single lunch.  I blame his stint in Indian League.

Carlos was pretty much the definition of a luxury player when he was here. He scored and created goals but you had to set the whole team up to accommodate him just standing round in the middle of the park not marking anyone, not tracking back, and not closing down the ball carrier. I think pretty much any coach would have issues with that.

This sort of became the case when it was obvious he was no longer in the frame for selection for Costa Rica in the World Cup. Prior to that time, you may remember he was often referred to a a new man, revitalised , fitter than ever etc
