Also Ned called BS on the offside malarky with the BS line drawing: benefit of the doubt to the attacking team. It's a very marginal line call, level or slightly offside at best- benefit of the doubt to the attackers.

Their goal not offside as the ball was ahead of the player.

I thought it was a clear offside for our 2nd to be honest.  Didn't seem that marginal.

didn't see it with the naked eye- and when they freeze it possibly he's marginally there at the moment of the pass, but with his going backwards and the defender going forwards it is very difficult to tell. Not at all clear cut- hence Zelic's comment.

Fair enough, these things are always tough for the AR.  However if it was the other way around and they scored, I would have been pretty fudged off.

Errm...Are there any other promising Fijian players playing in NZ? Just a thought! Also how are our shirt sales in Fiji? I know we buy West Ham et al shirts!

It appears Merrick certainly has his way in this gig. Not sure there’s anything from play I can gauge.

Once in a blue moon you look at a player playing in the A league and think he is too good a player to be playing here.  It doesn't happen often at the Phoenix, but I think that Roly is one of those players. Thank god we have him signed up for next year as well.

Well it took us a bloody long time to take that game by the scruff of the neck, and I have to say at 70 mins I didn't think we were going to.

Obviously McGlincheys miss in the first half was crucial, but we finally started to dominate when we realised we didn't have to have 45 passes before shooting at goal. 4 passes can be quite enough.

I thought Rodriguez was one of our better players tonight, but the interesting thing was that when he came off, suddenly Roly joined in the game and what a difference it made.

And for a team that supposedly likes keeping possession, why did we insist on having Moss (in particular) lumping kicks forward so that that huge guy could practice his heading?

At the end of the day Im pleased for Burns, who didn't have his best day until he scored, pleased for Krishna again, pleased for McGlinchey so that his miss didn't cost us, and pleased for Ernie because as frustrating as we can be too watch for the most part, he definitely has ideas that are coming to fruition. Durante had a great game , as did Moss.

Think the same. I feel like he could be playing a decent euro league already; he's got so much class. Such a well-rounded player, too.

I thought A-Rod had his best game in a Nix shirt. Was passing very, very well - especially in that first half, and it seemed like Ernie had told him to be a little more adventurous than usual.

For a team without a striker, we have the 2nd most goals after Victory. Loving golden boot too with a Nix in 1st and 5th

Odd to say but the comeback started with a moment of class from Siggy. Old Siggy would have just headed a ball forward but Siggy mark two brouggt the ball down on his chest played the ball to Roly who found Burns who found the back of the net for 1-1.

made me think of Leo's free kick and Nick Ward's slot into the top corner from outside the box

all goals that came somewhat out of the blue,

but Krishna probably has a better chance of repeating than the other two did in their time.

Not for a lack of trying from Leo lols

8 points ahead of our nearest rival. I know things can change but damn it, it makes better reading than the last few seasons when we were either last  or close to it.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

"As a striker you've just got to shoot, and it went in," Krishna said.

"Playing with Michael and Nathan is making my work much easier. I know they're more experienced than me, but we know my pace, just give me the ball and it's fun. I'm enjoying myself at the moment."

Is interesting for a team with supposedly no strikers according to some.Suggest some take a look at their preseason posts. As im pretty sure those  no strikers have scored most of our goals.

I don't think there would be many that were outright anti-Krishna, just lots of us who never thought he'd be as good as he's been this season.

I'll put my hand up as being in that boat, but it was never because I had anything against the guy personally, it was just that I never expected him to turn out so well.

Call it humble pie or just how things have turned out, either way I don't think it matters, I'm stoked for the team and stoked for him personally. Long may his good form continue!

Can someone school me on why Griffiths' goal was not offside?

Permalink Permalink

That was an excellent showing from the lads tonight, glad to see Krishna proving his worth after seeing him display that sort quality playing for Fiji, Auckland A & B (you decide which is which). Roly is our Marquee man if I ever saw one worth the title.

My only concern is the defense, again the sheet is dirty and feel that is the only stumbling block in the team at the moment. Great stop my Moss for that point blank tap in (albeit a weak hit) wasn't sure if he'd seize up and drop to the ground again.

All of this however, is meaningless. As the divines sent us forth this holy relic; an object coated in mysticism, hallowed by thy name of the holy head-bandage.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Haven't seen a replay, but from memory he was behind the ball when the pass was played.  Can't be offside in that situation.
