As many of you may know Raf has had much experiance in football and can hold up a midfield and slot the odd couple like its none of your buisness, but the question remains should he be included in this years team?

Having been team Wellington Caption, 23 caps and 2 goals for the All whites, and already 4 goals from 7 games in the Central League he looks like he is more than capable of holding his own in australia.

From what ive seen, in keeping fit this year by playing in the central league and getting back from injury, he looks like a player that the Phoenix could do with. When he is on his best, he is able to control midfield and distribute nicley with his touches and spot on passes. And a great player to come off the bench and cause the other team trouble...

Your thoughts???

I would like a Pre-seasonal tournament Trial first...see how good is he...no matter how great you are in the NZFC still means nothing to the A-league.  Hope he could prove himself and hopfully get a contract.  Safire2007-05-19 17:49:03

Is he not a bit fragile?

u guyz must be crazy raf is a quality player and he has played in some quality leagues in europe.. id put him in if i was ricki.. plus he is also an all white, he would of been considd for the all whites games this year but he is acking fitness in top level football as he was set back by an injury last season.

i think raf should be in the phoenix.. his experience is vital!

trial him in pre-season, he has never impressed me as outstanding

Raf offers some very good knowledge and experience, for us young guys at Olympic he is always offering us good advice and is very encouraging, he is a good leader I think aswell, nice touch and very agressive. I think ricky should have a look, he plays with heart and always give 200%.

Not good enough to be honest, we are not the Kingz.

give him a trial, see how he goes, if he goes alright we have a new signing, if its a flop no contract. Simple

Much as I liked Raf's workrate while at the Kingz, he is not up to the A League. Sorry.

First touch lets him down too often, is too careless with the ball, and you really need midfielders with a bit of physical presence for the role that Raf plays.

He is fine in the NZFC, leave him there.

No as Daikiwi said he just aint good enough.

"Perth's decision is a blow to the Nix who have yet to sign a tier-one All White. "

That was bout bertos, so if they want an All White they know where to look. Ricki should come to someCentral league games and check him out there.

Even if Raf didnt start, he would be one hell of a off the bench player. people who cant see his skill must be idiots.

We have too many off the bench players already. I think we should trial him in the pre-season cup if he does well, sign him, if he doesn't play well then don't sign him.

You know what, as much as I admire Raf, especially when he played at the Kingz, I believe that we already have enough midfielders, and at least two of them are a clear leap abouve Raf, so all in all, probably not

exactly! Have some trial matches!!! Get ur ass into gear ricky u malaka. I guess this team may be lik every nz football team. Players selected on who sucks co** the best. Give players a chance.

Ricki has already said he's keeping two spots free to trial players in pre-season.  It's been well covered here... Raf has played about 6 matches in 18 months, hardly enough to judge if he is fit again or still has consistent form.

How's my driving? - Whine here

Fragile, read somewhere on this site he is injured again.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Yeah he didnt play in the NaeNae game for Olympic and news has it hes out for the Miramar Olympic game so a big hit to the greeks.

There is no doubt that Raf is a great guy who will always give his maximum for whoever he plays for.  But you do need a bit more than that in professional environment.  This is a quality league and I think that quality may be a little too high.  And in all honesty HN is right, if he can get through a full season with Team Wellington then maybe he'll be considered for V4.  He hasn't bossed the NZFC yet, and you can't judge a thing on Central League games.

Normo's coming home

I think he can use the Central league games to increase fitness and steady himself shaking off any injuries. If he does well in the Pre-season cup then by all means. Give him a contract.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Didn't see much of him at TW which is I guess why he hasn't been signed yet.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

Ye i think its just the injury factor which sucks caz when u watch him u can tell he got talent. Doesnt force things too often but just his touch is nice and the best thing is that he recieves then bang he passes it straight away and doesnt hold onto it for too long. Itll be interesting whether he gets a shot. He was going to get a shot to play on monday against under 20s but was injured so they obviously have him in the back of there mind i believe.

Who had him in the back of their mind? What has the under 20 practice game got to do with Phoenix? Raf is a nice player, but Phoenix have signed more than enough for the middle of the park -so let's just end this thread here and see what happens.
