Okaaay this is a thread about LGBTQIA+ inclusiveness, there are other threads about racism where this has been discussed previously if you want to chat about that. Let's keep this thread at least tangentially related to John's original piece.

John's original piece does talk about racism throughout it.

I watched an Indian Super league  match the other day and it was Goa v Pune City and I noticed that 99% of the crowd were Indian.

That said, as the stickers went down so well - I've started working on a few designs for the future that deliberately avoids controversy.

How many of your stickers did get claimed?

I really wanted to grab one but with my toddler in tow I wasn't able to make my way over to grab one.

That example is a good one for car bumpers.

Dave's got a stack of them, so he's the man to ask about that.

I'll have some new ones for February's Eden Park game both Rainbow Fever and some general Nix ones too. I'll put them up on here so YF members can have their say.

I'll have this one made for Mr Waldron.

I hope the Phoenix are not going to be hijacked to promote political agendas. It's a good club for anyone and everyone. The club do their best to encourage all sorts of people of various races, creeds, religeon and persuasians. I just hope one group do not turn it into a circus. I've been watching and reading this thread and overall it seems that one persons beef with one other persons stupidity is now snowballing. Perhaps time to step back, take stock and close the thread down. The point was made. As we say on the terraces - We're here to watch the football. .

Pretty easy for you to say, as a white cis-het man, that the club is good and welcoming for everyone, and that people perceive it as such.

As another example, a couple of Wellingtonians of Asian decent have told me that they find our name upsetting, given that "Yellow Fever" also refers to the fetishisation of Asian women.  That's something they we would have to address if we wanted to make Phoenix games attractive to people who feel that way.

The club could certainly do a lot more to promote Phoenix games as a self and welcoming space for people who don't enjoy the same privilege as you and I. It's a real shame if you consider that doing so would amount to a circus, and that you would want to shut down discussions that are about making the club more inclusive and don't actually affect you in any way.

I for one wholeheartedly welcome discussions and initiatives about how we can grow crowds by becoming more welcoming to people who currently do not feel like Phoenix games are a place for them.  Rainbow Fever is an excellent start, and I was really stoked to see it on Saturday.

To me it’s like the debate about FIFA changing the rules of football to Americanise the game and get more American fans.

Initiatives like Rainbow Fever are awesome - we’re showing the country that we’re making the Nix more supportive and friendly, and at zero loss to us. The refugee ticketing scheme is really cool too - people who would never usually get the chance or want to watch our games get a taste of what we’re about. It’s not like we’re gonna fill the stadium anyway lol.

But changing the name of the Yellow Fever because a couple people think it’s a little upsetting even though it’s absolutely not the intention, and anyone can see that? Sorry but no way. Certainly seems like that would be taking the “circus” route

This sort of comment is pathetic. The comment above is spot on the money, even if old white dudes don't want to believe it.

It is a football club. the main purpose is football. We are football fans - everyone whom is a football fan and wishes to attend games is allowed to and can. It is as simple as that. There is no need to complicate something that is so simple. Some of you "younger" people need to grow up and see things for as they really are. Keep it simple. Embrace the game of football, all are welcome to.

We're here to watch the football.

There's a balance to be struck, and it's a careful one.

That said, the amount of times LG just used the word football made me think of this...

Oh boy I have lots of feelings about what you've posted here.

I'm going to lock the thread instead as it's massively spiked away from its original purpose.
