Well, that was painful. Same to think that we will still have most of these players next season, good 2 seasons ago but the league has gone past them.

Things I took out from last night:

1. We have very poor 1st touch. Ball seems to run away from them.

2. Players don't seem to give the ball carrier any options to pass to, lack of support.

3. Lack of pace all over the park, some players excluded.

4. Poor Positional awareness.

5. If we had a game plan, I was struggling to find it.

Positives:

Boyd

Adams, tough night but didn't look out of place, will get better with more game time

Sense of humour from the fans.

Will be back next season, just hope Welnix have a plan to grow the club and not just continue down this path to nowhere

I hope we are an exponential curve with the team. One place better on the ladder this year, next year two places and I smell the grand final in the third.

I just watched the replay to see what our chants sounded like, the commentators praised the Shit out of us.

They said we deserve 3 points for the support and commitment.

Conga line was very funny on the TV

Top scorer in the year we got the spoon. Yet you never think of him as putting his foot on the ball and putting the game to bed.

2nd top scorer, Daniel McBreen edged him by 1 winning the golden boot.

It's a bit worrying that Ernie said this morning that we need to make some signings in midfield and get a new striker. What about our appalling defence? If we have to pick Brockie as our striker then so be it. We need some defenders.

I'd be willing to excuse this season because it's Ernie's first and we got smashed by injuries, but a few things worry me. Why did we sign Krishna to 2 more years then drop him to the bench? Why did Brockie start the last few games? Why did Stein not come on today? Why did we continue to play the same tactics when they clearly weren't working anymore (since the 5-0 loss to the Heart)? It feels like Ernie and the club gave up weeks ago.

I enjoyed myself at the game tonight but that was in spite of what was going on on the pitch, not because of it.

Good questions.

Ok, I'll be your huckleberry. I'll venture Stein is goneskis. Will be signed to Sydney or Newcastle, or perhaps will look for another offer, not get it and come back to us. Has been cack since that contract negotiation talk.

Brockie has been starting because Ernie wanted to see if he could prove that he was capable of leading the line in an Ernie style game. Krishna is a known quantity for Ernie now, I think. Plus he is signed, so has nothing to prove in particular.  These changes were all about contracts and options for next season I think.

Good responses, but if that was the reasoning for them then Ernie/the club had given up on this season even when it was still well alive. Also doesn't explain why the tactics didn't change.

This is the way Ernie wants to play. He's giving these guys a chance to show they can fit into the system.

I couldn't go to the match last night. What did I miss?

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I hope not, considering the current system was a reaction to our midfield being to shit to play the 4-2-3-1 formation he tried to start the season with. A new DM and a striker who can lead the line and we can go back to that

I have a plan. All Wellington football experts can get together and the one who can shout the loudest can coach Phoenix next season. No experience necessary.

How did Adams look in his first outing (start) at CB.

Is he worth keeping?

I'd be happy to see him dropped and Musa called up.

I thought Adams did well all things considered. 2nd match at this level and lets be honest, Victory were far superior on this ocassion, especially in that first 20. How we held them out was good after that 57 second goal.

Dairyflat, you missed an excellent Conga and a Brockie "Special" in the last minute.

I was in the block of other Christchurch YF supporters (we flew up for the game, thanks Liam for organising it), and we all saw Brockie's Special right in front of us, probably as a deserved reward for many weeks of our painful suffering.

The other amazing outcome (apart from the conga line) was the almost relaxed appearance of the Red Badge guy standing next to us for the whole game. He was tense for the first 60-70 minutes but when we started on the "Bright Side of Life" he almost looked like was going to break out into a full-blown smile.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Still wouldn't get us into the finals.

Junior football parade, nixie chicks, huawei phone giveaway, autograph signing and lots of balls kicked into the crowd after the match.
Also something else which took about 93-4 minutes that involved shoes, conga lines and pretend goal celebrations.

It seemed to me from 25 that there was a prick towards the YF zone that had a whistle? Was this right?

We heard that whistle from over in aisle 12, I think the user may have been moving around the ground to avoid Red Badge. I thought things like whistles were banned but then you hear them at A League games in Oz. Noteably Western Sydney games.

Funny you should say that - I can't hear them at any other games, but the WSW ones are so loud you can clearly hear them on the telly.

Were you really at the match?

Well, theirs are the ones that are bloody annoying - one WSW game it was like a constant every minute thing, a sharp whistle.
And it wasn't the ref (which would be the case when we're playing).

I am quite surprised that the players dont complain to the ref to be honest. It would annoy the crap out of me as some of them actually sound like the one that particular ref is using.
