Probably been asked already, but why do referees wear yellow shirts and black shorts when refereeing a game involving a team that wear............

There are four teams in the league that wear yellow or gold.
Would they let another team wear yellow shirts against us at the ROF. No.

Is this to hard to work out.

Why dont they wear pink and ban van Hattum from playing A League.

Must admit with that sun in the eyes today I thought the linesman was on for a ball out wide. Agree crazy they should have non clashing colours but the Van Hattum outfit is going a bit too far!

I'm surprised that Referees dont wear light blue shirts when we play at home TBH.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Thinking exactly the same thing, then decided they should be wearing pink.

The referees when they come to NZ only have black or yellow to wear as I think the blue hasnt been sent to the NZ officials.  I maybe wrong.  Would rather them wear the yellow than black... Would make it really difficult

It's strange that in local leagues refs will look at the two teams and then decide what strip to wear, (well at least in the BOP). I would think that professionals should be even better equiped to do that. Very strange, specially when it interferes with play like it did at least once today.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

I found it very frustrating that one of our defenders just ran up and down the touchline all day playing them onside.

I'm a Capital Football Ref and thats the way it is here too.
When you know what teams are playing in your allocated match in the Thursday paper you wear one of the sanctioned colours (5 colours I think) that doesnt conflict and take a spare of a different colour just in case a keeper has the same.
Only once did this not work out and I made the keeper change his top or else he would have to go 'skins'.

I swear the linesman was sent on a run from our backline on an occasion in the first half.
