Our website issues have derailed it.

Once we have that sorted we'll be evaluating quite what we do and how it fits with things tomorrow.

While I know this was put on hold for the site upgrade, thought it might be worth brining up again as an off season topic.

Does this still fit in with the new youth programme?

The nominees will be snapped up by Australian clubs by the time this gets underway   <--- (I hope I don't actually look that spastic.)

Maybe we can make it less of a trial, which seemed to happen due to the success of Rojas, and go back to what I think it was when it was first touted, a weeks experience training with the Phoenix paid for by the YF. A lovely feel good initiative :P

Then (as in the past) males, females and youngsters as young as 12 (IIRC) can enter.

I can see it from both sides of the fence because it is their football club that they have put the money into. I think if you are looking to give your fan base some buy in, would it have hurt to have a kid onboard for 2 weeks for a taste of a pro football environment and wear it? Not really. I think that's essentially why people are so anti Marco, cause we discovered him (if you follow) and opened the door for his start and he 'turned his back'. Its something that the fans can own and take pride in. The fact that Marco is now the star of the league (and if he keeps it up will be a serious Johnny Warren contender) is something we can still take pride in even if its not for us.

Now they have said they don't want that and being their club they are entitled to do that. Its a great way to essentially take the buy in away from the fans and give their input the two fingers. At a time where there are struggling for numbers, I think the timing is not smart.

Either way, good luck to them.

The previous administration was really involved in the fan group and they were interested to hear our thoughts on players,” Guy Smiley said.

“They recognised that within the fan group there was a lot of football experience. As well as a lot of fan enthusiasm there’s a lot of people who play and coach.

“The current administrators have their own staff whose opinions they take first and that’s entirely fine and I would say that’s pretty much the case at most A-League clubs.

The sad thing is that the fans that are most affected have inelastic demand for the club.

Dug this up as could not find a more relevant thread...

With Rojas/Judas/Kiwi Messi now making mega bucks in Germany should the Fever maybe put some kind of pressure on him to reinvest into a new version of the Scholarship for future Rojas's as without us he'd still be playing for Waikato/Waibop United?

What say you?

I seriously doubt that he'd still be at Waikato without the Fever.

He'd be playing for Wests like the rest of Waikato

I like the idea... a lot of footballers give back to the communities they came from.

Although maybe he wants to wait a year or two until he's had some serious coin coming in and saved up before he starts committing to this type of thing.

There are a lot of talented kids who simply don't have the money to take up various opportunities.

For god's sake don't ask Marco to fund the scholarship. It will be a whole heap of awkwardness and embarrassment. If he wanted to get involved I'm sure he would (and quite frankly I think he should), but don't ask him.

I don't think I get your angle there Sack. Why don't we let him think about his own career, settling in and sort that first before he looks at anything philanthropic. At the moment, he had a great year at Melbourne, lets see what else he has.

Yeah.  Auckland would have paid him more (joke.  No need for angst).

And he would then have played at the FIFA World Club Champs - and probably been ignored by Rickie - and then been snapped up by a J-League/La Liga/EPL club on a freebie (joke/no need 4 angst)

That is my angle... the previous discussion was saying that we should ask Marco to fund the scholarship which I don't think is right. I totally agree with what you're saying. And as for calling me Sack, really?

Sack.. Short for sackofspuds... You really want me to type that each time? 2b, JD, term, TV, J82, News... It's quite common.
