According to this document: http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/classic/awards/01/36/25/40/ballondor_award_men_player_finalx.pdf

Ricki thinks the best players* in the world are:

Messi
Thomas Mueller
Wesley Sneijder.

*National Coaches are not permitted to nominate their own players, otherwise Mulligan would have been a shoe in

For the NZ Media votes, Gordon Glen Watson had

Sneijder
Xavi
Iniesta

No votes made by Ryan Nelsen- I assume he would have been eligible?

While Gordon's picks are good players, how the hell can he not pick Leo Messi?

Lol, Gordon Glen Watson I'm pretty sure is ex-Petone for one season. Hamilton before that I think. Strange Ryan didn't vote. Maybe he was too busy with his new baby.

Its no longer a problem.

I remember him playing a a pre-season game for Manawatu AFC against the Kingz early in the Kingz life and he was the best on the pitch.  Fantastic match.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Watson captained Melville to the Chatham Cup Final quite a few years back I believe.

Fun Fact.

Good player. Did some pre-season training at Pukekohe last season. Think he ended up being involved with Hibiscus Cost in the NRFL.

Anyway, back on topic..........

I think Gordon Glen is the older brother of the guys who captained Melville as I seem to remember him going up to watch his brother play. He wouldn't shut up about it. Was mates with Paul Marfiltt.

Its no longer a problem.

I think you're thinking of someone else with a double barrelled name.

Gordon is half scots half Papuan (I think) and the Papuan genes are much stronger than the Scots ones.

Ohyes, we'll set him up for english lessons, but never come through with it, like it says in his contract, and then the media will bombard us, and because he doesn't speak English he won't be able to play and THEN Brisbane will snap him up.
Excellent.

Couple mates - Matt Parkin, Shane Hooks - played in that game and I think a young Masty was kicking around that Club around then too.

Yeah yeah what topic.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought to myself it's got to be about Brown, Lia and Hearfield!

I thought the same except three of Brown, Lochhead, Mulligan, or Christie.

Not ambitious enough for me. Sure they may improve our squad, but we gotta ask ourselves, would they make the squads of Brisbane, Adelaide, etc?

We wanna be top of the table next year, so we gotta aim higher

Best three players in the world:

Dyron Daal
Pelligrino
Sasho Petrovski (still).

Sorry I am having a very boring day in the office today.

Hi there,

No, I played in the Final, we got beat 3-1 by Uni-Mount Wellington. I've never played for Petone, though, not once, not ever. Manawatu AFC, Melville United, Ngaruawahia, Takapuna, Hisbiscus Coast and retired now.

I'm a journalist and freelance media professional. Recent jobs include football reporter at the Youth Olympics in Singapore, Commonwealth Games, Asian Beach Soccer in Muscat, Oman. I contract to New Zealand Football, Oceania and FIFA on various projects.

I think if you look at the votes the media tended to shy away from picking Messi whereas I think coaches on that panel tended to vote for players they probably felt they would pick if they could, rather than a broader approach.

There was some embarrassment on Messi's part at winning the Ballon D'or for a second time because I think he was aware how he underperformed at the World Cup itself which has more or less been how the winner is finally judged.

I can go into more depth about my choices but prefer to do so offline rather than in a public forum. The "chatty" bloke you may remember wasn't me, wasn't a relative - I know of Paul Marflitt, but nothing more than that.

My late father was Scottish, my mother is Ngapuhi.
