Tactically we're still very good.
I'm disappointed with the lack of invention though.
Rufer: Solid
Payne: Energy

Regardless of the score, I have been so impressed by Rufer. So much passion for the club. His battles with Howieson have been great, a lot of needle there. Rufer leaving many late ones on Howieson all game. Two players who go way back and will likely be going for the same AW slot too.
Big ups to Payne as well who also looks like this game is personal.

Biggest Biggest anti climax I've ever witnessed from a Nix team.

Utterly diabolical, we are toothless.

But I'm glad the neutrals got to see some goals...

That was a terrible pass. Thump it wide or up the field mate.

Won't cost us the season but that will hurt for a while....

He will have to have some big games to redeem himself.

Well done Auckland. Not two goal winners but still took their chances when we didn't. We lift for next weekend and I can't wait for the game at Mt Smart on the 7th

Nix are looking good but still need that final bit of cohesion. Barring a brain fart at the worst moment, it was a good intense game. Second goal is just a last ditch attempt gone wrong so not really going to lose sleep over that. Auckland looked great, and their results have backed that up. Looking forward to the rest of the season let's go NZF!

We should have been winning 3-0. The attack didn’t do their job. They also are missing a striker. We didn’t replace Zawada.

We went in with no goal scorers on form and this is the result.

We can blame the keeper, but we should have done better with the chances we had before that moment.

Way to keep the casuals.
I hate that we’ve only ourselves to blame too. How would David Ball have gone ahead of Colakovski you wonder? Less energy perhaps, but the man bleeds yellow.

Ishige should have scored. For me that was the moment, we get that and Auckland don't break through they have little quality.

I'm sick of this back 5 experiment and I am sick of seeing Conchie instead of al-Taay. He hasn't impressed in his 3 starts. Playing Western United and Perth has masked just how bad we have been. Things need to change.

I gotta say, Ishige hasn't exactly filled me with confidence over the past 3 matches

Dude’s been good but he’s not a CF.

Kosta first, when he hits it straight at Paulsen.

Just saw the replay of keeper trying to thread the ball between two strikers in the 88th minute. What the actual fudge.

Yes agree. Everyone will now slay Josh but this sort of thing happens to the world's best. We simply didn't bring enough up front, we lack fire-power. Hopefully Rojas will find his feet asap otherwise we might be in trouble this season. I'm a little concerned though

I wear my heart on my sleeve, but apologies for the language.

Absolutely gave it away to them today. We should be disappointed, we should be upset, and in front of such a good turnout as well. Just gutted.

On to next week we go.

Obviously horrendous error from the keeper, but to give him his due he is signing autographs and attending to the crowd, when many wouldn’t at this time.

Auckland will rise once more

Tactically we are set up well but the quality is a huge downgrade from last season

Oluwayemi isnt half the goalkeeper Paulsen is, and that's not just from his mistake today. Solidity starts in goal and he inspires 0 confidence. I've never seen a goalkeeper who has such a lack of presence. He almost hides in the goalmouth, it's very strange

Why we just gave him an extension absolutely baffles me

Aside from that, we worked extremely hard but the quality was lacking. Ishige, Nagasawa and Kosta all struggled to get into the game properly. Tried hard, but I expect more quality from Ishige and Nagasawa.

Really disappointing for a big crowd. I still think we are missing a couple of key pieces. I'd like to see a different kind of striker with Kosta and Rojas playing off them, someone who can link play

I somewhat agree on this, I actually don't mind him playing out and making a mistake - this pretty much always happens with a new backline and when you're tactically setup this way. However, his general play is hugely concerning and I genuinely can't see what his strength is. Mentally, he comes across as fragile but I guess we will see how he backs up next week.

We didn't have that many clear cut chances, but Ishige should've absolutely buried his every day of the week

I'm posting this here because I'm being lazy. I usually go to nix games in Auckland but never sit in active zone. I'm pretty keep to travel to Aucks for nix game on the 7th (I join the yellow fever, I don't mind standing for a good cause), I had a look for tickets in the away zone but there were none available..have I missed the boat?

What a stupid way to lose the first derby.
I’m not blaming the keeper, everyone who saw the first two games knew that it was just matter of time that we concede that way. I blame the coaching staff to let them play that way, they should now better.
There was a lot of passion and no lack of trying but kooks like we can’t really score, we had two open goal chances but no one is able to finish. To many small mistakes and not really  a plan to go forward.
Very disappointing evening.

To begin I want to preface my following comments by saying I am many drinks deep at this point and was in the ground rather than watching on TV - but I feel like 2-0 maybe flatters AFC a bit too much, they took their chances so I can't say they didn't deserve the win. But it felt very evenly matched and I feel a 1-0 would've represented the game a bit better.

Love Rufs, and just stoked I could be at his 150th match. Loved him encouraging at us at half time to bring the noise

Atmosphere was on point all game, loved it, I still half have my voice at the moment but it is pretty raspy, who knows how it'll be tomorrow. Can't fault the Yellow Fever or any of the bays near it, all were in fine voice tonight.

Well done AFC, Gillingham looked dangerous much of the game. We lost but at least it felt very even and a real battle.

Let's go get them in Auckland!

(Beers, let's not forget the amount of beers that have been drunk before this post - so if anything feels off, blame the beers!)

Based on how the game went it felt like 1 all or 2 all would have been a fair scoreline.

We gave them too many opportunities and we fluffed a couple of great ones.

But fark, that was a rough way to lose our first Darby.

Have to admit, the cheeky digital sign as we left made le laugh.  Quality banter.

Really hope this is a wake up call for the Nix and Chiefy. Our playstyle won't keep fans, especially when we lose like that to our biggest rivals. Kudos to the Port, they came down in numbers and brought a lot of energy, annoying as that is. Gonna stay off Phoenix socials for a while, not in the mood to be taunted by Aucklanders

Honestly mistakes and late goals aside - we were too passive all game and were the second-best team in the 2nd half.

We had some very good chances but Auckland had more chances overall and actually look like they want to play on the front foot and actively create. For us we are waiting for the right counter to come, or passing it round the back waiting for the right opening to arrive, we were physical and combative which I like but we didn't truly take the game to them, and in home derbies that's gotta be a minimum expectation.

Remembering what Chiefy said in preseason about our style of play, what's happened to that? Because so far this season we haven't seen that fluid attacking play or desire to play on the front foot - and that goes for all three games.

Fear it's going to be a very average season for us.
