Road to the Top 4

After 2 rounds the 3rd and 4th placed teams (Sydney & Roar) are sitting on 20 points - we're on 18. Extrapolating 20 points to the end of the season Sydney and the Roar will end up with 30 points. Because of our sh*t goal difference we'll have to finish on 31 points to finish ahead of them.

So, theorietically, we need 13 points from the last round to get in to the top 4 - 4 wins and a draw - a huge ask.

We have Fred for 3 more games against Perth, Mariners and the Roar - the Roar and Mariners are 6 point games as they will be our competition for a top 4 spot.

We then have the Jets (home) and Sydney (away).

The last 2 games are tough - Adelaide (home) and Victory (away).

I think the path to the top 4 is 4 wins from the next 5 games and a draw against either Adelaide or the Victory.

It doesn't matter which way you cut it we all but have to win against Perth this weekend to have a realistic shot at the top 4. Let's hope, after 2 lessons at Perth, we've figured out a game plan to deal with Dadi and Rukavytsya.

So, you reckon  it's 13 points from 7 games then?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

We will get into 4th place next week if we beat Perth

AND there is a winner out of CCM vs Sydney

AND Roar loses to the jets

We'll get in if we win our next 7 games.

Good. No need to worry about goal difference.

Why, what happened last Friday?

Bit of a train wreck in Adelaide, but apart from that..........

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Blackburn weren't wearing Nix gear were they?

I'll join with top 4 scenarios after another 6 games, before that is just plucking at straws.

This thread is full of straw pluckers

Yes we will need probably 31 points to make the top four. Which means 4 wins and a draw and two losses in the last seven...easy is'nt it.

Don't mean to rain on anyones parade but this is .....as they say in league "a big ask" Because:

1, We have five of these games against teams above us on the table including Melborne,Sydney and the Roar away and Adelaide(eek!)
2, Our goal difference is shiite!!!!!!!!!
3, Fred goes in three games and even though I would rate him 7/10 he does drag in defenders which has given super Leo and Smeltzy more space.

So rationally we are looking at 5th at best or 6th....which is what the majority of YF's said was the minimum we would be happy with right at the start of the season.

But screw rationalism.....we can do it. On our day we can beat anyone(except maybe Adelaide) We just need to get onto a roll, starting with Perth. Its gonna be a hell of a ride...but if we don't make it I will be still proud of the lads, coz of  the way they picked the season up after a crap start. They have played some good football, they just need to learn how to do it consistently week after week.

This is actually a positive point  ... provided we believe in our team (and they believe in themselves).  Good form on our part will drag the other teams down.  Easier to climb tables.  And that's a lot of fun!

I know, I know, its serious!
